I was about to ask, but completely understand. RL trumps game time.

Male Halfling Weapon Adept of the Empty Fist 1

I'll be gone most of the weekend, but will be back on Sunday.

That made me laugh, Phi'Shaw. Therein lies the problem with just one person on the world production team.

Grumble, grumble. I was sure I had the party assignments correct.

Gut Lighter = fighter
Beestinger = sneaky type
Slanter = sneaky type
Traveler = magic (psionics) type

Who's Strider? :-) Beestinger, you'd better not be hiding a certain gold ring on us. And I'm not going on any mission to a volcano.

Male Halfling Weapon Adept of the Empty Fist 1

It's not a ring; I have the amulet version of it. :)

Most of the towns people were injured or worse in the attack. All adults fought including women. For any given adult roll a d10 to determine thier fate.
1-Dead
2-3-Serious Injury(roll d6 check chart bellow)
4-7-Minor Injury(mostly will result in scarring or loss of minor appendages, see chart below)
8-9-No Injury
10-Chance for heroism(either safe or, roll again and person received the outcome in some heroic fashion, your choice)
Injury Chart:
1-eye
2-Left Arm
3-Right Arm
4-Left Leg
5-Right Leg
6-Roll Twice
Major injuries are nearly complete loss of use of limb or appendage, ie. Blind in one eye, hand cut off or arm rendered useless, unable to put weight on a leg. Minor injuries result in minor loss of functionality. Lost fingers or toes, restricted movement of limb, a permanent limp that does not require a cane. Replace eye with head for minor injury.

Children and those trained in combat faired better. The chart for children is as follows roll a d20:
1-Dead
2-3-Major Injury
4-10-Minor Injury
11-19-Safe
20-Chance at Heroics(see above)

Roll d22
Trained warriors
1-2-Dead
3-5-Major Injury
6-15-Minor Injury
15-20-Safe
21-22-Heroics

Male Human (Elan) Psion (Nomad) 1 (D6)

People that Traveler might be concerned about:
- Serenity at the Two Prongs Inn 1d10 ⇒ 9 (whew!)
- the Innkeep at the Two Prongs Inn 1d10 ⇒ 8 (he's fine)
- the town blacksmith 1d10 ⇒ 5 injury: 1d6 ⇒ 3 minor damage to his right arm, not good. A blacksmith needs his strength. A missing finger or two is all right, but permanent stiffness is a job-killer.
- Family #1 1d10 ⇒ 2 uh-oh; was it a child? 1d20 ⇒ 13, no, it must have been the father 1d6 ⇒ 6; ooh, that's gonna hurt 1d6 ⇒ 2 1d6 ⇒ 2; looks like he is missing several fingers on his left hand now and might lose the rest of the forearm because of the damage
- Family #2 1d10 ⇒ 9
- Family #3 1d10 ⇒ 8

Now to put this back onto the IC thread as Traveler wanders around town.

So kobolds at the Fort and goblins here at Three Forks. Where is that army from Kempo? Do you guys get the feeling we were Catch-22 no matter where we went?

Ack, the mule! I almost forgot about Kickback! The goblins might have eaten him! 1d20 ⇒ 20 What the? His baying and violence alerted the inn that there were goblins in the stalls? Well, he always was a stubborn cuss with a hide that could break any wooden stick you beat him with. His hooves have done 1d4+1 damage to me before.

Male Halfling Weapon Adept of the Empty Fist 1

halfling family outcome summary
a resilient clan overall
dead/dying- 2 hunter/warriors (1 heroically defending city center long enough to let others get away to Kempo), 3 other adults, 3 children

major injuries-3 regular adults, 4 children; most are useless limbs or blinded, except one niece who should have died from all of her burns, and how she survived is a unknown miracle, though she is permanently weakened much like Beestinger was at that age, and her older brother, who sustained major burn damage himself saving his sister from the fire that consumed their home very rapidly

minor injuries-7 hunter/warriors, 2 adults (both heroic-burns from fighting the fires), 7 children

unharmed-1 hunter/warrior, 6 other adults, 11 children

dice rolls:

trained hunters/warriors (10)
10d22 ⇒ (13, 10, 9, 20, 9, 8, 11, 14, 2, 21) = 117
1 dead, 7 with minor injuries, 1 uninjured, 1 heroics
minor injury-7d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 6, 3, 2, 1) = 252 partially blinded, 2 with permananent scarring on one of their arms
minor injury 6's2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6(major scar on face, walks with a limp in his left leg), 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3(partially blind, heavily scarred arm), 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8(heavily scarred left arm; ignoring the second 6, otherwise things dice rolls would just get too crazy)
heroic-1d22 ⇒ 2 1 mortally wounded early on defending town center from goblins, but is willing himself to stay alive long enough to see his family safely on the way to Kempo

untrained adult fighters (20)
20d10 ⇒ (2, 1, 8, 10, 6, 8, 4, 6, 10, 9, 5, 8, 5, 1, 8, 2, 8, 1, 5, 2) = 109
3 dead, 3 serious injury, 6 unharmed, 2 heroics
serious injury-3d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2) = 13one who lost left arm, one whose right leg is completely useless and scarred
serious injury 6-2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7right arm, left leg rendered useless
minor injury-5d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 5, 3) = 175 members with significant scars on various limbs/face
heroics-2d10 ⇒ (7, 4) = 11 two sustained burn damage helping contain the fires that the goblins had started

children (25)
25d20 ⇒ (13, 4, 19, 7, 1, 3, 8, 3, 1, 18, 1, 13, 8, 20, 18, 8, 20, 17, 17, 13, 3, 10, 7, 13, 18) = 263
3 dead, 3 major injuries, 7 minor injuries, 11 unharmed, 1 heroic
major injuries-3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 3) = 10one blinded, one lost an arm
major injury 62d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10
major injury 6 again(yes, I am cruel to do this to a child) - 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8
major injury 6 yet again-2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11one that should have died, but somehow is still holding on, though permanently weakened physically much like Beestinger is
minor injuries-7d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 5, 2, 3, 4, 3) = 24
minor injury 6-2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
heoric-1d20 ⇒ 3major injury; sustained major burn damage saving his younger sister(the majorly, majorly injured child) from the fire that engulfed their home

Now that that is finally done, the IC description

Anyone heard from Gutlighter? I'm gonna wait until I get up(in about eight hours) before I post, trying to wait for him.

Male Human (Elan) Psion (Nomad) 1 (D6)

I haven't heard. Did he mention knowing more people in town than the rest of us? It might be OK to narrate the three of us minus Beestinger going to the inn, then checking out the rest of the town. I was going to check out the innkeep and the barmaid, the mule in the stables, then the blacksmith and the three client families, in that order.

Male Halfling Weapon Adept of the Empty Fist 1

He would have had family as well, and I imagine he would have gone to check on them instead of going straight to the inn. If he's not posted in 8 hrs, we can just say that he is still dealing with his family.

Gutlighter's Father:1d10 ⇒ 2
Major Injury:1d6 ⇒ 2
Gutlighter's Mother:1d10 ⇒ 7

I know he has a father, I'm not sure if he has a mother or anything else but this will be enough for me to run him until we hear back from him.

Male Halfling Weapon Adept of the Empty Fist 1

I just rolled a lot of dice, and figured that I would go with whatever stood out in terms of heroics, particularly bad rolls, or general patterns. It seemed to work well enough, giving me some good highlights without having to go into detail of the majority of the injuries.

Male Human (Elan) Psion (Nomad) 1 (D6)

I've got another work weekend coming up, so I will be out this Friday afternoon to Sunday evening. 29 April to 01 May.

Male Human (Elan) Psion (Nomad) 1 (D6)

Well, we have our Plot Hook, but unlike most of the modules I've played, we're not meeting him or her in a mansion or tower where they give us gold pieces or magical items to help us do our mission. Usually a Diplomacy roll is needed. Not here. The town is shutting down, the main city is days away, and we're about to leave on a mission with nothing but what's in our backpacks. I'm not sure I'm even going to be able to take the mule with us.

Old 2nd Edition Advanced D&D joke from college: my brother used to play a fire cleric with a "pocket mule" that was nonexistent in battle but always there when he needed to haul treasure away. After several days down in subterranean caves my brother tells the GM that he's going to get more trail rations off of the mule. Everybody at the table says "What mule? We're a mile underground!"

Male Half-elf Ninja 1

I will most likely be online for a couple of days. I should be back posting by Tue or wen.

Sorry Traveller I didn't even notice your last post. I have no problems with a mule being underground, I'm fairly certain that miners used mules and other beasts of burdens, but how you're gonna get a mule across a 40' drop I would like to see. You can probably tie it up in the cave and come back to it when you make it out of the keep.

I just wanted to let you guys know I'm putting the game on hold a day or two while I try to get a couple of players since I'm assuming Gutlighter is gone, and I'm worried Beestinger maybe as well. Since Slanter's gonna be off we will call it Wensday.

Male Halfling Weapon Adept of the Empty Fist 1

I think we have effectively lost Gutlighter. Now might be a decent time to try to find a couple of replacements, as we are still in town.

Male Pale Master

my character is almost fleshed out. just a couple of questions.

Feats:

Blood of the Wild
Two-Weapon Fighting
Double Slice

Flaw:

Background:

Worshiped as the greatest blessing there Tribe had ever seen, Randulfr was seen as a sign that The Mother Goddess had blessed them with great an bountiful lives. For a time, this was very true. They enjoyed bountiful harvests, healthy children, and mild winters wherever they traveled. Randulfr grew up wanting nothing. If he went out and hunted, his group would be the first to find food. If they needed water, Randulfr was the first to find it. Randulfr learned to make his own armor, and he enjoyed his time as thing since sliced bread. However, that all ended two years ago. While out hunting solo, Randulfr's tribe was attacked. Whatever attacked razed the village to the ground, leaving only a few tent poles, some broken pottery, and flaming earth. Unsure of what could cause this damage, or even if any of his Tribe still live, Randulfr has taken to wandering the continent in the hopes of finding some trace of his family, his Tribe, or those who took them.

Today, his travel has taken him to the village of Three Forks Divide, or what remains of it...

Appearance:

An incredible tall man at 6' 6", Randulr seems to be always seen in a peculiar set of Hide Armor, in that the Hide is made entirely of Wolf Skin. This Hide covers numerous scars that criss-cross his muscular flesh, while his unusual yellow eyes and clawed hands seem to unnerve any animal he comes near. A shock of dark brown hair runs down past his shoulders, clean but unkept. Occasionally you can catch sight of a twig or a small stick woven into the hair. He also has a full beard of the same dark brown as his hair.

Equipment:

Hide Shirt (From Adventurer's Armory, if Acceptable)
Masterwork Artisan's Tools
Standard Adventurer's Kit
9 Gold Pieces Remaining

Is there a problem with taking option four of the item pack, and having a Masterwork Wolf-Hide Shirt instead of a Chain Shirt?

Waiting for GM approval before I begin posting.

Looks good overall, just a couple things on your backstory. The barbarian tribes that roam throughout Phi'Shaw are known collectively as the Skaldland Barbarians. They are the only private group of "organized" military allowed to roam the country armed. It is said that the tribes had alot to do with the raising of the Avatars. All tribes also pay homage to Tris of Two Faces, she is depicted both as a beautiful human woman and a fierce Orc warrior. She was said to be the guide and protector of the fledgling avatars during the time of their testing. She is treated somewhat how buhdists treat Sidhartha, with deep respect to the point that those not of the tribes believe them to worship her though that is not the case.

Also your tribe had to have been in the north near the base of the mountains if not in the mountains themselves when attacked.

Don't have the book with me but as long as the MW hide shirt doesn't cost more than 250gp(which I'm pretty sure it doesn't) I'm fine with it.

Stiehl9s wrote:

Yes class alternates are allowed.

d20pfsrd.com has a long list of traits.

Male Human (Elan) Psion (Nomad) 1 (D6)

And I thought I was stretching the racial/class rules. There's a whole lot of background and flavor text there. Ah well, as my brother often says, "If you've got it, flaunt it."

Hide armor costs 15 gp, add 150 gp for masterwork, so 165 gp. If you want to call it a hide shirt with the same stats as a chain shirt, it's 100 gp + 150 gp = 250 gp. From the PRD.

Sweet, thanks. Will make updates to backstory, as soon as I can. What exactly does the town look like after the attack on it? Are we talking about smoking ruins of buildings with corpses scattered about, or are we talking about something not quite as bad?

There are some houses that are burnt ruins, many saw flames but thanks to the valiant efforts of the haflings several buildings were saved. The last few hours have been busy with the burial of towns people. Approximately 10% of the adult population died, about half of that for children. None of the garrison of 6 died. Though 2 of them suffered major injury. Depending on how close to dawn you arrived it may have looked much as you described, but the good people of Three Forks Divide have been busy clearing bodies to the graveyard and taking the goblin bodies to the pyre that the other pcs saw north of town.

Male dwarven kineticist 3

EDIT: Scrap all that, just read the first page of this thread. I reckon I'll just stick with oracle then. Tongues curse and he speaks some form of snakeman language when stressed or in battle.

Couple last questions: What is the terrain around Three Forks Divide? Say, in a circle with a radius from the pyre to the town center?

Finally, not sure if I missed this, but what season is it?

His mother worked hard and with a little help from his unknown father he was able to attend the war academy where he learned the ways of a soldierand showed startling promise. After doing his 4 year service to the city Stiehl set forth to make his own name. He had come to Three Forks Divide just days before the goblin attack. Unfortunately (or fortunately considering he survived) he spent the night of the massacre in the town brig after a drunken misunderstanding and subsequent fight with a local. His weapons and gear returned he was released from holding. He walked out into a nightmare of a morning. The smoke and smell of death assaulted his senses. Alright, let's dig right in!

Oh! My potion is one of Cure Light Wounds.

I tend to run first/second person until I join up with the group. Then I switch to Third Person.

Male Half-elf Ninja 1

Ok, I am back. I will be trying to get caught up later tonight and gt to posting again.

I know I orginally said this would be sandboxy, and then I jusst railroaded you guys. Bear with me, I promise it will open up some soon.

Again sorry to Walfsbreath and Grimblade for running your characters for a few seconds, it won't be a habit I promise.

Also please note that my keyboard battery is dying and when it does it starts doing weird things to my typing, like dropping whole strings of letters and doubling some letters, I think I got them all fixed but just in case you know what's up

Male Half Elf Rogue - Knife Master - 1

@DM - no apology necessary. as long as its not completely out of character ill never have a problem with it. especially if its keep the game running.

Male Human (Elan) Psion (Nomad) 1 (D6)

Choo! Choo! ALLLLL ABOARDDDDDDD!!!! ;-P

Just kidding, Phi'Shaw. Some "GM pushes" are needed, meeting up the new incoming guys with the rest of the party are a prime example. As long as you don't mind me making a few assumptions about NPCs here and there, like the various farmer families Traveler has spent time with, or a merchant here in Three Forks.

What I wouldn't give for a Campaign Cartographer-type map of this section of the continent. It's hard getting a mental picture of the road we'll be traveling on, the direction of Amound's Keep, the ocean shoreline, etc. Now I have to add subterranean caves to it! I've got CC3 at home, but I literally just purchased it and don't know how to use it.

Everybody at the table has "secrets" about their players, I love the interaction about that, as well as the responses from the players. As long as it's not hostile.

It sounds like we're going to do some fast introductions, then dash off for equipment before meeting back at the inn.

New Party Makeup:
Phi'Shaw DM: the GM; presumed Human
Beestinger: 40; Halfling; monk
Slanter: young adult; Half-Elf; Ninja
Traveler: mid-30s "Human"; "Sorcerer" and tinkerer/smith (the quotes are there for a reason, folks)
Grymblade: Human; Fighter
Wolfsbreath: really tall Human; Barbarian - with wolf?

5 males and no healing - sigh. Looks like I'll need that UMD for the wands, and it's time to stock up on healing kits and bloodblock. You folks had better be grateful I have a Trait for stabilizing dying people. I hate to see folks die in battle. I can get some "healing" later, but it's gonna be several levels before I do.

Male Half Elf Rogue - Knife Master - 1

I wont mind crossclassing in cleric to keep us healthy. might be good rp. finding faith and all...

Scratch the With Wolf portion, Andrezi. A bit of RP should make things clear.

Male Human (Elan) Psion (Nomad) 1 (D6)

What happened to Stiehl the Fighter and grmnbln the Oracle? An Oracle would be great (healing), but I'm not turning down anyone.

Male Half Elf Rogue - Knife Master - 1

I had originally changed my characters name to Stiehl since Grimblade was already taken. And changed to its current spelling since Phi'Shaw DM liked it and kept using it in the naratives so thered be no confusion. My apologies if I caused any.

I was wondering what happened to Snaketongue as well?

I'll play a female cleric, if you'll have me.

Some words of warning, however:

~This will be the first PbP game I've played.
~I've only been playing PF for a few weeks (as a tabletop game).
~I will not be playing a walking first-aid kit. I will be playing a girl with dreams, goals, fears, emotions, needs and wants, etc. Treat her with respect, you'll get on fine. Disrespect her and, well, it'll be to your disadvantage. You have been warned! :)

How do you change the colour of the text?
What does the blue text represent, OOC or character thoughts?

Aliciah.

If more people played the cleric that way, the class would be much better off.

Male Half Elf Rogue - Knife Master - 1

I agree. Alicia you'll have to wait to hear from Phi'Shaw DM. If it was a democracy you'd get my vote.

and to answer your questions yes the blue script is out of character dialogue

I tend to put character thoughts in italics and spoken word in bold

Male Human (Elan) Psion (Nomad) 1 (D6)

Wait...I'm confused....you mean it's not going to be the normal "Pat the cleric on the head twice, get band-aid healing"?

Hello, Aliciah. We'll see if Phi'Shaw picks you up. We do need the female perspective as well as a healer in the group.

When you post, look for the "BBCode tags you can use: [Show]" at the bottom of the square and click on it. It will tell you how to post in OOC.

--------------------------------------
Meanwhile, back at Three Forks Divide....

Traveler is going to be ticked off at Wolfsbreath upstaging him on the gratuity to the serving girl. Grimwald paid silver; Traveler paid (his last) silver; Wolfsbreath pulls out gold! Grumble, grumble.....

This has been a gold-poor campaign so far. I'm not expecting much, especially since the enemy is cave-dwelling kobolds, and anticipating robbing the dead at Aemound's Keep doesn't really impress me. Still, a hard gaming life of 2nd Ed evil GMs followed by 3.x modules written by evil GMs has made me create several totally self-sufficient characters, so if we survive to Level 5 and beyond, Traveler can slowly become a jack-of-all-trades for the party. We just need to pick up some wealth at some point, as well as crafting opportunities.

Sorry about that. My knowledge Geography was a lousy 4 and Wolfsbreath doesn't know how far it is to Aemund's Keep...so he is collecting as much food as possible that isn't salted meat that would last a while and be very filling.

Male Human (Elan) Psion (Nomad) 1 (D6)

We're all waiting on Phi'Shaw DM! Don't leave because it's not daily posting!

Male Half Elf Rogue - Knife Master - 1

I for one am not going anywhere.

I am chilling out here.
