Zero level spells and metamagic

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Just out of curiosity has anyone had a purpose or reason to use metamagic that altered the spell level with a zero level spell? Eschew Materials is the obvious exception to this.

My sorcerer once used a quickened Acid Splash to kill a troll. He reduced it to negative hit points with a Magic Missile and needed to kill it before it got back up.

I imagine a silent Ghost Sound could be useful.

Merciful Acid Splash is a great way to bring down civilians without much risk of killing them.

Also good for shooing away beggars....

Silver Crusade

I've considered using Extended Daze with one of my PFS characters, but I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet.

At low levels, a multiclassed fighter (or other full BAB class)/sorcerer (or wizard) can get some use out of Still Spell on acid splash, disrupt undead, or ray of frost when wearing armor. Flare is the only cantrip and true strike is the only 1st-level spell without somatic components in the Core Rulebook.

You forgot Feather Fall.

Just making sure here, all of these characters are still modifying the level of the spell, right? Even on cantrips?

The Quickened Acid Splash was a 4th level spell when the sorcerer cast it?

Merciful is a +0, so that's a fantastic use for a sorcerer. For someone who slots, not as useful (unless you allow them to slot a merciful and a normal one, and they want to waste the slots).

I really like the visual of a street beggar begging for a copper and a sorcerer looking down dismissively and dousing him with pseudo-acid.

Of course. I'd say that Extended Daze is a decent 1st level spell (although it's no Sleep or Color Spray).

So I did. Probably because it's one I don't have my low-level arcane casters learn/use very often. I may have a wizard learn it so they can craft a use activated, X times per day wondrous item, but that's about it.

Liberty's Edge

I plan on doing this with Jinxed Spell (from Halflings of Golarion). Jinxed Flare should nicely open up an enemy caster for a whole new world of hurt

Merciful Ray of Frost works for that "chill of death" feeling, as well. :)

Reach Touch of Fatigue would be worthwhile in some circumstances.
