Infiltrator Adaptation

Rules Questions

What action does it require to be used? In descriptive text it says only how long it lasts, it doesn't mention anything else.

Anyone?

What the heck are you talking about?

He's talking about the APG Ranger Infiltrator path. You're right, it absolutely doesn't say what action it takes. I'd say probably swift or free, but if you're asking for society play, I have no idea if there's an official call on it. I'd plan on it requiring a swift, and if its a free, so much the better.

Quote:
At 3rd level, an infiltrator learns how to copy the unusual abilities of his prey. He chooses one type of creature he has selected as a favored enemy, such as “aberrations.” The Ranger selects one ability or feat from the adaptation list for that type (see below). A Ranger can use adaptations for 10 minutes per day per Ranger level he possesses. This duration does not need to be consecutive, but it must be used in 10-minute increments. If the adaptation requires the Ranger to make a more specific choice (such as what skill to use with Skill Focus), this choice is permanent and cannot be changed.

Now I know what the heck you're talking about! :D

I would imagine free as well. Swift at the most. I just can't see the Ranger taking a wide stance and shouting to the heavens:

"HUMANOID (Giant) ADAPTATION... GOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

And powering up with a Dragon-Ball-esque kind of lightshow as a standard or full-round action...

Now I need to make a gnomish one of these, start some prestidigitation, and do this. Thanks a lot, as if I didn't already have enough ridiculous characters.

Along these same lines... The default ranger gets his favored terrains are 3rd, 8th, 13th, and 18th levels... The entry for adaptation says the last one is gained at 15th level. The errata currently doesn't mention this... Anyone know if this is a typo and should be covered in errata, or if it really is supposed to be gained at 15th?
