Oracles = Elemental Bending?

Conversions

I've been watching Avatar: the Last Airbender with my son and I cannot help but notice how much the oracle class resembles benders from that universe.

Looking at mysteries we have:
- Waves = Waterbending
- Stone = Earthbending
- Wind = Airbending
- Flame = Firebending

If I wanted to make benders, I might just make a couple minor changes to the oracle class.

- Make the curse voluntary
- Make a specialized spell list that corresponds with the given element
(I found a thread in this forum that made a pretty good list for an earthbender; I just need spell lists for the other three benders)

Thoughts?

Liberty's Edge

You might want to simply steal the Elementalist Wizard spells for the element in question, at least as a starting point.

I mean, those aren't long enough for a full list, but they're already there and very appropriate.

It is dated, but the shugenja spell list is pretty good. When I played Toft back in 3.5, this is the way I went.

Okay, I used the spells database on the d20pfsrd website to isolate all spells with the air, water, earth, and fire descriptors. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/spells-db

Obviously, firebenders have the best spell list (most options), followed by earthbenders, waterbenders, and airbenders.

Yep, as is, airbenders are just awful. Any ideas on what other spells I can give them?

Flight spells (fly, levitate, feather fall) are obvious picks. Anything else?

Reflavored telekinetic spells (like mage hand) could be attributed to one having power over the air. Maybe increase their range?

Blur could be caused by wind, as could deflection. Telepathic bond could be retailored so that you could "whisper in the wind" and have it carried to a person of your choice.

Hand of the apprentice would make sense for an air bender.

Shadow Lodge

Weather spells can be put on the air list, along with force spells. I think the spells based around color could work too, making the air move just right to bend the light waves enough to make a color spray...

You can always reflavor the fluff of a spell to make it an element.

Shield (Air Shield)
Stoneskin (Covers your body with a layer of stone)
Mage Armor (Protective layer of your element).
Expedition Retreat (Swift like the wind)
Black Tentacles (Tendrils of Water, Grasping Earth, Chains of Air)
Sound Burst (Thunder Clap, all sonic spells could be considered thunder)

Well, without revealing any spoilers from the show, perhaps you should limit or disallow some of the stronger fire spells. Similar feats could only be achieved with firebending under exceptional circumstances.

Grand Lodge

This is nothing new. You could do it with sorcerers or any other caster if you had the inclination for it.
