Recruiting replacement player for CotCT PbP

Gamer Connection

Seeking a replacement player in a Curse of the Crimson Throne PbP. Still early in the first part. GM posts are generally once/day on weekdays. We have four current players:

Human Ranger
Half-elf Paladin of Sarenrae
Halfling Rogue (planning to take some levels of fighter)
Human Arcane Sorceror

As you can probably guess, they are seeking a healer. Please consult the player’s guide to make sure that you have a suitable character for the game. You can ignore the portion of the player’s guide that talks about coming up with a background concerning Gaedren Lamm, he has already been dealt with (although it might give you something to bond with the rest of the party about). Core & APG only (exceptions MAY be granted, but it will take some convincing), 20 pt buy, 2 traits. The game and discussion threads are linked below (ignore the DM Amethyst part, I took over the game for him):

Recruitment will remain open through tomorrow evening.

Note that for recruitment, I just need a few paragraphs describing your character (race, class, role, motivations, brief history, etc.). No need for all the details (unless you want to of course).

I have to have a character ready to go, or just a concept at this point?

I can throw my hat in the ring here.

Iron Will; Channel Smite.

Courageous: Your childhood was brutal, yet you persevered primarily through force of will and the hope that no matter how hard things might get, as long as you kept a level head you’d make it through. You gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against fear effects.

Indomitable Faith: You were born in a region where your faith was not popular, yet you never abandoned it. Your constant struggle to maintain your own faith has bolstered your drive; you gain a +1 trait bonus on Will saves as a result.

Spells Memorized:

0-level (DC 13) Stabilize, Guidance, Light; 1st-level (DC 14) Bless, Shield of Faith, Magic Weapon (D)
* - Already cast

Class Abilities:

Aura (Ex): A cleric of a chaotic, evil, good, or lawful deity
has a particularly powerful aura corresponding to the
deity’s alignment (see the detect evil spell for details).

Spontaneous Casting: A good cleric (or a neutral cleric of a good deity) can channel stored spell energy into healing spells that she did not prepare ahead of time. The cleric can “lose” any prepared spell that is not an orison or domain spell in order to cast any cure spell of the same spell level or lower (a cure spell is any spell with “cure” in its name).

Orisons: Clerics can prepare a number of orisons, or 0-level spells, each day, as noted on Table 3–5 under “Spells per Day.” These spells are cast like any other spell, but they are not expended when cast and may be used again.

Restricted Spells: A cleric can’t cast spells of an alignment opposed to her own or her deity’s (if she has one). Spells associated with particular alignments are indicated by the chaotic, evil, good, and lawful descriptors in their spell descriptions.

Channel Energy A good cleric (or one who worships a good deity) channels positive energy and can choose to deal damage to undead creatures or to heal living creatures. Channeling energy causes a burst that affects all creatures of one type (either undead or living) in a 30-foot radius centered on the cleric. The amount of damage dealt or healed is equal to 1d6 points of damage plus 1d6 points of damage for every two cleric levels beyond 1st (2d6 at 3rd, 3d6 at 5th, and so on). Creatures that take damage from channeled energy receive a Will save to halve the damage. The DC of this save is equal to 10 + 1/2 the cleric’s level + the cleric’s Charisma modifier. Creatures healed by channeled energy cannot exceed their maximum hit point total—all excess healing is lost. A cleric may channel energy a number of times per day equal to 3 + her Charisma modifier. This is a standard action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity. A cleric can choose whether or not to include herself in this effect. A cleric must be able to present her holy symbol to use this ability.

2 max uses/day, 0 used.

Domains:

- Law:
Granted Power: Touch of Law (Sp): You can touch a willing creature as a standard action, infusing it with the power of divine order and allowing it to treat all attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws for 1 round as if the natural d20 roll resulted in an 11. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

- War:
Granted Power: Battle Rage (Sp): You can touch a creature as a standard action to give it a bonus on melee damage rolls equal to 1/2 your cleric level for 1 round (minimum +1). You can do so a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

Equipment:
(50 lbs total, Light load)
Scale Mail
Lt Sheel Shield
Longsword
Heavy Crossbow w/10 bolts
Silver Holy Symbol
Vial Holy Water
2 Sunrods
Backpack
Bedroll
4 days rations
Waterskin
Belt Pouch with the Ambar (a fist-sized black sphere).
Wayfinder
*Map, showing the area around the forest you are in and Haven, also some mountains to the east of your destination. A small red line leads from your current location to a spot in the mountains, which is labeled in spidery, though clear, letters. In Underommon, The spot in the mountains is labeled "The Citadel. Portal open during the moonless nights."
16 gp

Background:

Cole grew up on one of the many outlying farms from the plains/grasslands to the southeast. His childhood was pretty typical, except for the accident he had involving a runaway horse, a sharp hoof and bad timing.

When he was lying down on the ground, his lifeblood oozing out of him, he was waiting to die. He was told later he went into a coma, but one of the local priests of Iomedae was there to bring him back to living.

Since that point in time he knew he had a mission to see the clergy in all corners of the Kingdom. Surely this is a good thing for all citizens, to keep other young children from suffering and dying as he almost did.

Now, newly graduated from the trials of the priesthood, Cole is ready to make his mark on the world...and never mind those who disagree with him. They will learn better...

Now he is starting to have doubts about what his priesthood has become. Maybe it was the way his childhood accident was explained to him, an act of his god, but something doesn't seem right in his heart about that. Also to continuing persecutions against those who choose not to follow his churches way. True, the church has brought order, but sometimes at the expense of humanity.

Finally, his brother has been a vexing issue which his faith seems to have no answer for. He was delivering some sweets to a local lord. As Raff tried to talk his gang out of robbing his brother they turned on him, allowing Cole to make his escape. How he wanted to stay and fight those bastards! But Raff told him it would lead to both of their deaths.

Which is why when he heard Raff, his brother was involved with some gangs and thugs, and accused of performing criminal acts, knew he could not let his brother suffer for his crimes.

But what about his faith in his god, was his life a lie?

His BG was for a homebrew...but I can convert it to Korvosa without too much trouble.

Thanks for considering me.

Dragolan Canario, Chelaxian Human Oracle of Life

Spoiler:
A large man with curly brown hair and beard, he looks like all he needs is a green robe, holly crown, and wine goblet to play the Ghost of Christmas Present. Actually, he's got a wine cup already, and at this moment is gazing sadly at its current empty state. His flushed cheeks are the only indication of the truly prodigious amount of wine he has already consumed. "Varisia produces some fine vintages, I'll admit, but the finest of the Westcrown whites don't travel well at all." He heaves a lugubrious sigh. "I do miss them. But my dear sister wants to be a person of importance in Egorian, and you know that people of importance don't have embarrassing younger brothers. Oh, how she berated me! 'Why couldn't you have been an oracle of Flame?', she'd scream. As though I had a choice in the matter!

"So I am here, where the seafood at least is quite good, while my family back home tries its best to erase me from history. I suppose I should not complain, though--even at her angriest, Thelia never considered erasing me from existence. I did have to change my name, though. Perhaps someday I'll get to go back to Westcrown...at least long enough to get a few bottles of the '699...."

And smiling at that happy thought, he not-quite-staggers off to bed, humming to himself. Behind him, the wooden table twitches where his hands rested, knocking his abandoned cup to the floor with a clatter.

Neva Vallastoi, Mid-wife
Middle-aged Human Cleric 1 of Pharasma

Spoiler:

“Birth is a time of great change, great striving, and thus great pain”, the older woman says as she daubs cool water on the younger woman’s forehead. “But in our striving, we overcome and surpass the pain. The realization of our ability to do this, not only now, but in each day of our lives, is the real change that birth brings.” She dips the cloth again in the water, shakes off the excess, and brings it once more to the furrowed brow. “That, and you’ll never get a good night’s sleep” she adds, smiling, and the young woman laughs despite herself, giving her midwife a look of thanks.

Neva is a Varisan mid-wife with over twenty years experience helping mothers bring children into the world. Her practical knowledge of the craft has developed into a connection with Pharasma that would humble an ordained priest. Her skill at healing wounds both physical and emotional is remarkable, as is her deep intellectual commitment to the ideas and philosophies underlying the major transformations of birth and death.
She is no stranger to the hard edges of the world. And she does not doubt that pain, death and evil are forces that shape our lives, for she has seen them. But she does not bow, or complain, or shirk. Kind, gentle, and ready with a soft word for her charges, she is nonetheless tough. “I worship the Lady of Graves, young master! I suggest you close your mouth and fetch me those swaddling clothes, or you’ll be telling HER how important you are!”

Neva’s work has brought her to Korvosa from the Varisan countryside. She felt a need for her services among the city’s poor, and stayed to do what she could.

Domains:
1) Healing – Restoration
2) Knowledge – Memory

[Feats and traits to be decided later to fit in with the story, the party and the setting.]

On the mechanical side, could you envision Neva as a cleric archer? It seems like most of us in the group are heading towards melee, so a ranged character would be a good complement.

Absolutely. I think she'll take her buff role very seriously, but I can see her being capable with a ranged weapon. "Nothing cures the croup faster than a spoonful of my special venison broth. But the poor deer can't be made to suffer, or it'll ruin the whole thing. So if you can't kill it right, I'll go do it myself!"

A good selection of characters everyone, thanks for the submissions. We're going to go with Telperion, I'll post back here if there are any more vacancies.

Telperion, when you've finished your stats, go ahead and post over in the OOC thread. I should be able to work you in early next week.

[Telperion using new alias for Neva]
Great! Thanks DM Cloud! I'll get something to you later today.

Have fun, all, and thanks for considering me.

Thank you for considering me as well. I will lurk around in case a cleric is needed in the future. Parties tend to always need clerics for some reason...
