Protection vs Energy Drain or Enervation Spell-like Abilities

Advice

Sovereign Court

I am playing a 20th level Wizard with every Sorc/Wiz spell in the Core Rulebook and APG at his disposal, but I am concerned about creatures using level draining spell-like abilities. I am not so worried about actual spells as I am playing a Dispeller with Immediate action dispels available, but since you cannot counter spell-like abilities...

Since they are rays upping touch AC would be good, I do not have a Ring of Protection Item - both ring slots used - have a half decent 22 dex. I am concerned about creatures with true seeing so anything eliminated by that is of little use.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. :)

Death ward is your friend. Depending upon circumstances and party you either want to be sure there is someone who can cast it before combat or get an item capable of casting it. Hell, even wand of death ward is good to use after being hit as it supressess penalties from negative levels accumulated.

True we do have a cleric, and I can also get access to it via Summon Monster IX at a pinch. Anything else? Its the duration and the fact that we have six in our group and one cleric that troubles me. We are heading to the astral plane and I know we will be facing a lot of Astra (sp?) Demons which get both enervation and energy drain as spell-likes.

Depends on what part of the PRD you're looking at q: The Magic section (they're not allowed to be counterspelled) or the Glossary (they are allowed to be counterspelled). Since the "no" text is almost directly from 3.5 and the "yes" text is in a section that also held the same information in 3.5, I'd say the "yes" text wins.

Is your goal to be "immune to everything" so you need no group support? Assuming you don't mean to use 3.X material, here are some solutions:

Moment of Prescience -- huge AC bonus versus a single ray.

But assuming you are hit with a spell before you can recast MoP, get a scarab of protection. They're pretty cheap by level 20 standards (especially if you can craft them) and they work for 12 attacks.

Hmmm, thanks meabolex, wish Paizo had clarified that point.

I'm not trying to not need any support, but since we are going to the astral plane we will likely be looking at confrontation where we will face multiple foes that can use energy drain and enervation, that each get to use two a round since everything is effectively quickened there. I am just a bit paranoid that the group will get whacked with 8 level draining effects in a round, in which case the cleric would need to "cure" only one person, etc.

Moment of Prescience is a great idea, I'll definitely have that cast, but I don't have the funds available for the Scarrab at the Moment - though I have the slot free - just spent several hundred thousand on wishes to get inherent bonuses.

Great suggestions! Thanks! More still appreciated if anyone can think of them.
