I want spell cards!

Product Discussion

I like the critical hit deck, fumble deck, plot twist deck, and all manner of decks from Paizo... but what I would really like is a collection of spell decks. Sure, I know that some spell descriptions are very long, so use both sides of the card if you need to. But spell cards would be a great help to me and my players. Any chance of seeing that?

Yea, but they are not complete and he does not seem interested in updating them when folks point out the missing and/or errors.

In reading about these card pdfs, it seems like they have a lot of issues. I would much rather buy spell cards made by Paizo, even if I have to buy 5 decks just to complete the wizard spells. Paizo, what say you?

Thanks for the recommendation, guys.

Yup, my program will create spell cards in just about any size you'd like, with choices for colors and background images! Index cards are my favorite, too, but I support playing card size, and large format size as well as both major sizes for U.S. index cards.

You can pick to print out just the spells you want, too, or print them all out. And thanks to Mike Chopswil's database, I've got all the spells in there from the APG as well as Core, and a dozen other books. As well as make custom cards for spells not in my database or your own creations. Again, its a community project and 100% free. And I do take requests for new features. :)

THAT said...

Official cards would be awesome, just because of the ART! BUT it would be something really really huge, and expensive.

Just the core rulebook ALONE would be 858 cards in my program. While I'm sure that Paizo could be a little more efficient doing them manually than I am where the program does the calculations, based on the size of the other GameMastery card decks that would be just over 14 decks at 60 cards per deck.

At $10.99 a deck... that comes to $153.86 U.S. And we haven't even added in the APG yet, much less the upcoming Ultimate Magic.

Even assuming that Paizo can get the cost down... that is still gonna be a significant cost in the end. Though I imagine some of the cost would be lessened as you would want to buy them on a per-class basis, but the classes that needed them most (Wizard, Cleric, Druid...) would still need $80 - $100 in cards each.

Perram's spells cards, which are based of my DB check it out on d20pfsrd.com, reflects all errata and fixes for mistakes and missed spells on my part.

Oddly enough Louis Porter spells cards seem to have the same mistakes and missed spells as I did...

I too like Perrams spell cards. One question I have is how do I increase the font size of the output. These old tired eyes are having problems, even at 4 cards per page...

I'll add an extra large font set this weekend.

Thanks for the idea!

Thanks for you work, Perram! The idea of using index cards to print the spells on is interesting, but I've never done something like that before. Would I need to go to a Kinkos to get this done?

THANK YOU !!!! Especially from my tired old eyes!

I use the printer at work they have an index card feeder. The particularly nice thing about using index cards is that not only do you know what the spell does but you also get to sort through your available spells and remove them when you finish casting them.

And use them to deliver nasty paper cuts if you are grappled.

This would apply to any spell cards at all: I also find them really useful for keeping track of buffs when they are cast. Just lay the spell out on the battle mat when you cast it, maybe put a dice on it or counters to keep track of the rounds left on the buff it it will expire in combat, and you can't forget its there easily and everyone knows what it does!

Perram,

Is it possible to have the option of using different fonts? I know I'm pushing things here, but what the hell...

i can't beleive the OP didn't ask for Danmaku.

we really need Danmaku

and a complete guide to pathfinderizing Gensokyo.

Also thanks from my side for the spellcards. Just out of curiosity, you think you will Gods and Magic done, or just use your custom generator? Would be nice if you could fit the backgrounds in.....

I really really want to... but its unlikely to happen soon. I would have to recode the whole thing in JavaScript to pull it off. Right now its pure PHP.

@PeteZero - I'll look into it! I only have that book as a physical book, not a PDF... so... likely would have enter it by hand. For now I would just create the spells in the custom generator.

Sorry all that this weekends updates didn't happen. RL hit me kinda hard. I'll try and get them up as soon as possible.

I've got a set of spell cards out on RPGNOW.com, but they're in the middle of a major overhaul. Originally I didn't use Chopswill's database, but I have incorporated some of it since then and heavily modified it. Also APG cards are coming too be added to that set with no cost difference.

The major hold up? My external hitachi hard drive died a couple days before my toddler wiped out half of my storage drive. So much for backup. *facepalm* Now I burn backups on DVD.

Perram has some good stuff if you're looking for free cards though. :D If you're interested in looking at a few with the new look, email me at wickedkgames@gmail.com. :D

EDIT: As another option I am looking at making the cards the size of a magic card for sleeving purposes... it'd just require a lot of cutting out.

DVD can get messed up as well :(

I had a stack of 75+ DVD backups on a spindle, and somehow in the process of moving it from spot to spot about 10-15 DVD's "chipped" themselves on one side all in the same spot. I don't know if someone knocked it down or what. Now of course it was in a spindle, so you could blame me. But really how much more room will 400-500 DVD's take in individual cases compared to 2-3 spindles? :(

Now I double hard drive back up (internal, external) AND do periodic DVD backups as well. Just wanted to mention this as I hate seeing anyone lose data, and as someone who in the last 5 years have lost a large amount of my backups.

There is also the Blue Banzai cards.

The problem I've found with parram's was some cards continue on another card and it would be nice to have them print on the back of the beginning or first card.

I'm sure there's a way to line it up with PHP.
