Okay, So I'm Joining an Existing game at level ten (it's more my last character died, but anyways), and I've decided I want to play a Paladin.
I can do all the numbers really easy, all the character sheet stuff is done, Paladins are easy to stat and skill.
my issue is the guy needs a Name, personality, and reason to be anywhere near the party (Cheliax in this case)
He's a Paladin of Arshea (Empyreal Lord of Freedom and Sexuality), so I decided he'd have a Capt. Jack harkness-esque approach to Sex, sexuality, and all that Jazz.
but Beyond that he's just mostly a Sword that gets around, and doesn't really care about with who.
stats if they help come up with some ideas.
STR: 16 (+2 Human, +2 leveling, +4 Belt)
Dex: 15 (+2 Gloves)
Con: 12
Int: 10
Wis: 7
Cha: 16
thanks for any suggestions in advance. Paladins really do bugger up my Character creation, I play Lawful, or good, never both, so he's gonna be tough.

I'm thinking reformed 'bard' (CN or CG). Someone who used to spend their days loafing around a tavern bothering the wenches till he convinced one to come to whatever hole he was renting out.
One day he managed to bed a acolyte/priestess/cleric of said religion, falls for her and decides to devote his time pursuing her rather than the random skirt.
Enter tragedy in the form of his love being captured/crippled/killed (depending on how much work you want to put into it). Now the hero carries on her work.
- If captured he works towards her freedom, but stops to sample the roses now and again.
- If crippled he returns to her home on occasion to provide for her and reaffirm affections.
- If killed he's now a champion against the evils that would destroy beauty and seeks new lovers to spread the faith/fill the void.
No matter the actual outcome I think the most important aspect of any Paladin's character is that of dedication, be it to a diety, an ideal, or their loved ones.
I'm really bad with names, but I'd go with Mark Gabriel, kinda sounds like a Paladin.
As a side note, did you roll those stats? They seem pretty low for most point buy.

maybe, I was bouncing ideas off of a friend and came up with something Varisian.
grew up with his primary caregivers being a Bisexual Romantic Foursome (so he doesn't actually know which pair are his biological parents), in a Caravan that Worshipped Arshea, Shelyn and Desna. So he's very open and free about sexuality, believing it to be a non-issue, man, woman, he doesn't care it's all about the metaphysical stuff. also he's not Adverse to anything anyone wants to do in the sack, and is willing to try anything at least once.
Paladin would probably come in along the lines of having a rampant devil/demon (maybe in Cheliax, would make sense for the campaign) comming into the Caravan and killing everyone, with ______________ (Paladin's name) surviving just through sheer faith in Arshea and having some minor Manifestation (be it a small aspect of the harold or a minor favoured outsider of the god) comming in and Smiting said Demon/Devil into the next Dimensional millenium.
yer Idea is pretty awesome too though...
BAH!
I hate paladins, they always give me this trouble when it comes to back stories.

You could refine his personality by discovering what in the attack decided him to become a Paladin, what his deep motivation is (and not what rationalization he gives himself to stay Lawful Good).
Some possibilities could be :
- The wish to slay beings like the demon (Revenge)
- The wish to protect innocent beings from meeting the same grisly fate that his parents did (Protection/being a Hero)
- The wish for having the power of Smite that would have allowed him to slay the demon (Lust for power)
- The wish to show his gratefulness to the being that saved him (Gratitude)
and so on.
You can also mix it with other less acceptable needs, like wanting to be worshipped as a hero, or wanting to be a savior, or punishing himself through a kind of Holy death wish.
It would be interesting to know what deep emotion overcame him during this traumatic fundamental moment of the demon's attack : Rage ? Fear ? Shame ?
All of these can be nice building blocks for a full-fledged human servant of the Greater Good
As why he would go to Cheliax, it is likely the place where previous clues/omens/dreams/whatever have indicated he could find some trace of the demon's sender

As for how to play lawful good, I take the idea that LG persons, especially paladins believe that a proper ordered society will naturally bring about a good society, rigid enough to protect the populace from predations by the corrupt while allowing them to flourish on their own course. That's also why simply being a "legitimate" ruler is not enough. Law is not in and of itself good, it must be utilized for good.
For your character I definitely think you'll need to figure out why he's become lawful as the caravan idea would foster a largely chaotic mindset. When the attack happened was he otherwise incapacitated? Did he feel he could have stopped it if he wasn't? A big part will be knowing why the character feels that he as to have a much more focused and ordered mindset than that he was raised in.

If you want to read about a PC Paladin that sounds kinda like what you're describing, you may want to check out the Campaign Journal: "The Wizard of Witchfire Mountain: A Sandbox Campaign in the Sterich March and look for the posts of Samhain Aqualung Tull. He's, um, odd.
All the pretty goddesses of Greyhawk whisper to him in his dreams and as a result, during the day he's perpetually "drunk" or "high" -- not to mention horny when it comes to talking about Mayaheine, Lirr, Ehlonna, Lydia and Atroa. See, he has "relations" with these goddesses, he knows them in the Biblical sense.
He's also very stupid. That doesn't come out in the Campaign Journal too much, but, well, the other PCs have to remind him what to do sometimes in a fight.
