Male Not man enough to be human

We'll discuss tweaks, backgrounds, and anything else needed to get everything set up before we're live. Today is Monday, so I'm looking at Wednesday for the first official post.

I'm at work in the afternoons, so I may not get a chance to reply to any questions until later tonight (unless work slows down).

Female Elf Master Summoner 1

I hope you don't mind Kira's heavily tortured background. i figured she would be just the perfect thing for riddleport. assuming you don't mind "Adolescent" elves. she is a forlorn, has a skewed sense of maturity, and is also of a current occupation fitting for riddleport. of course, i couldn't afford the skill points for that profession. all i need say is that it involves her "packing carrots" for "hungry" sailors.

Male Not man enough to be human

I got the gist of what you were going for. :)

Female Elf Master Summoner 1

are you offended by Kira's rough concept or are you okay with it?

any tweaks i would need to make? if so, what would they be?

VC - Sydney, Australia

Great!

So before I get too busy crafting away, is an Aasimar Paladin or Cleric likely to be 'too much'? The angle (angel!?) I'm going for here is more the protector of the weak than firebrand of the heavens... of course if others really want either of those roles I have a back-up rogue-centric type I could run.

I hope Shifty is planing on a big-thick fighter-type because we are a little thin in that department.

Edit...like a Aasimar Paladin :-)

Female Elf Master Summoner 1

@shifty, i'd be perfectly fine with that character. whether it be cleric or paladin.

@tom, is the "sonic tweak" allowed. it feats the theme of her ancestor, and goes well with her random spasms that break the sound barrier and produce effects similar in nature to a sonic boom. i figure that she cannot quite control these spasms.

how would you rule those random spasms.

i would assume a way to work it would be once per hour while performing strenuous activity, there would be a 5% chance of these random spasms occuring, and the odds increase by 5% for each hour that passes by uneffected within the same day in succession. making the success would produce a randomly determined sonic evocation that comes with 10 minutes of exhaustion per "spell level", happening at a random moment once per hour. even if it's an existing evocation spell reskinned to deal sonic damage. but never anything more dangerous than she can already cast and it could even be a spell she doesn't know.

Liberty's Edge

Male Elf Witch/10 (HP: 27/27; AC15; FF13; T15; F+2, R+5, W+10; Perc: +31, Init +2)

Anything I need to change for Sable?

One caveat with all sonic attacks is that few creatures have sonic resistance. It would be bypassing a lot of natural resistances...which I guess is good in the player's perspective, but the DM needs to consider that.

Female Elf Master Summoner 1

and there is almost nothing weak against sonic damage either.

so i would never enjoy the X1.5 damage modifier for vulnerability

but in exchange; i get to damage almost everything at least a little

and may never cancel out most forms of enemy regeneration.

and removing the sonic aspect would require rewriting Kira quite a bit. and would require things along the lines of rewriting her surrogate father, her spontaneous rapid spasms, and looking for a similar less commonly resisted element.

i think fire and lightning are too flashy for my taste, and that acid or cold would require a heavy background rewrite. i found it fun writing a concept around sound.

and there is a certain reserve feat on page 40ish of complete mage i would like to use for this concept. thus allowing the flavor of slapping faster than the speed of sound. problem is, that i need sonic spells to meet the requirements and there are so few sonic evocations that are worth it (and they are all in the spell compendium), but i don't want to be gimped by research fees either.

Male Tiefling (Asura-Spawn) Cleric (Sarenrae) 1

Thank you for accepting me into this. Which of my two characters should I be preparing for this one? I have the Tiefling Cleric (Sarenrae), or the Human Fighter. Would you need to look at the custom Tiefling rules before using one was allowed?

Male Not man enough to be human

Kira, I don't mind more mature characters. It's not like I'm 12 or anything :P
Not entirely sure how you came up with that sonic blast, as sonic is not an element. Retool required.

Shifty, I liked the idea of the aasimar cleric. *shrug* If you want to go another direction, so be it.

Sable, I'll have to go get the advanced player's guide (should have it tomorrow)

Asuna, was hoping for the human fighter

Liberty's Edge

Male Elf Witch/10 (HP: 27/27; AC15; FF13; T15; F+2, R+5, W+10; Perc: +31, Init +2)

Everything I used for the witch I managed to get from the PRD, since I as yet, do not have the Advanced Player's Guide (hoping to snag one for myself on Thursday)

VC - Sydney, Australia

OK well I'll stick with the Aasimar concept:

1) Asuna is keen to run his Saerenrae Cleric, so notionally we have the Healer role filled.
2) There seems to be call for a Fighter type.

So if Asuna takes his Cleric, then I'll stick with Paladin (which is just a cleric who can melee better :p) but still the Angel striving to do good deeds :) I like Asuna's build and think he could be a good counterpoint with a Paladin - both of them trying to better their lot, one trying to shake off half his ancestry, and the other trying to be worthy of it!

Once Asuna gets his thumbs up (or down) I will put a build together accordingly. Ultimately either of my builds will have the same purpose and desire, coupled with the same devotion etc - its only a mechanical change.

Female Elf Master Summoner 1

sound itself may not be one of the 4 classic elements.

but i am really keen on the sonic aspect.

can we take the "sound elemental" bloodline i tweaked and say she has it because her ancestor was a crystal dragon?

crystal dragons are very sonic aligned and have a huge amount of sonic affinity. the "sound elemental" bloodline is just a way to justify her exotic heritage. which initially was going to involve a sound psuedo elemental. but saying it's because of her crystal dragon blood works too. she won't be able to go dragon disciple or grow claws, but has that sound ray and the ability to convert X spell damage type into sonic damage. her abilities would progress "mechanically" as if she were an "elemental" sorcerer but the true source of her blood would be a crystal dragon for fluff purposes.

this will mean less retooling for me, a little more flavor, and hopefully not have to deal with the unwanted draconic bloodline powers.

Male Half-elf Rogue 1

Thanks much for allowing me to be a part of your game, I look forward to playing with all of you. I'll be putting the finishing touches on my character tonight.

Female Elf Master Summoner 1

do you need an excuse for a sound elemental bloodline?

my desired ancestor.

my desired ability package

it's just a "tweak" in damage type and fluff. we just have to tie these 2 together and divorce the concept of the 4 "elements". just because you have an "elemental" bloodline doesn't mean your ancestor was an "elemental". dragons, outsiders, and fey work too.

i spent 2 hours searching the PRD for the closest thing i could find to a "sound elemental" without breaking into my 3.5 pdf archive.

Male Tiefling (Asura-Spawn) Cleric (Sarenrae) 1

Actually, I'm shifting from the Cleric to the Fighter, per GM preference. Truth be told, she's the one I actually want to play more.

Female Elf Master Summoner 1

if i really have to, i may as well make her air elemental blooded. maybe not the desired "sonic boom" effect but lightning and thunder shouldn't be too distant. i guess i can rewrite basic details.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Happy days Asuna.

I will go back to the Cleric concept if you have the Tankage covered :)

Male Half-Elf (Taldan) Bard (Archivist) 7 Drow Stats 51/51 hp;AC 19/T 14/FF 16; F +2/R +8/W +3; Int/Wis Skills -1

Thanks for the invite Tom!

This is Meowzebub's Archivist. Profile is complete on avatar page.

Female Elf Master Summoner 1

i was considering an 8 wis and 10 str. the lower wisdom would be to represent a skewed sense of maturity. should i do that? i also lowered my constitution to even out my charisma. her now lower will saves also hint at her broken will and shattered dreams.

Male Half-Elf (Taldan) Bard (Archivist) 7 Drow Stats 51/51 hp;AC 19/T 14/FF 16; F +2/R +8/W +3; Int/Wis Skills -1

You can join Sebastian in the Low Wisdom Club. He is pretty smart, but very naive.

Male Not man enough to be human

Other than Kira dropping that sonic ray, everyone's characters are looking good so far.

For anyone not familiar with Second Darkness, each of you has heard about a new event called 'Cheat the Devil and Take his Gold' at the Golden Goblin gambling hall.

You have also all noticed a dark blot hanging over the city. At first it appeared to be a cloud, but it moves in random patterns, ignoring the winds which would push a normal cloud around.

I'm pretty sure we'll be ready to go for tomorrow, so look for a new thread tomorrow morning. :)

Female Elf Master Summoner 1

i dropped the sonic references and made her an "air" elemental bloodline sorceress instead. that "sonic ray" is now an "electric ray". an aspect of the Air elemental bloodline.

Male Not man enough to be human

Does anyone want a second thread for in-character, out of adventure gaming? We could use it for any introductions where 2 characters know each other before the start of game, or if one person goes off to gather info or whatever.

There was some discussion of people having common backgrounds, and I'd rather not use up time (read as days) having to introduce everyone to the first scene.

VC - Sydney, Australia

One thread for OOC and offline kinda junk, and one in game is the best combo... saves clutter and derailment :p

sounds good.

Female Human Fighter 1

Hey. This is the ID for Asuna's new character. Questions before we start. Low/average/high starting gold?

I was wondering about the Meteor Hammer, as well. Would GM ruling be that it is a strict Reach weapon, or a flexible Reach weapon akin to the whip? I was hoping for the latter, but I can work around either ruling.

I'm open on this score.

VC - Sydney, Australia

I'm 99% happy with a build I am staring at.
I am thinking this guy will be high Diplomacy and high Intimidate, a sort of 'limited face guy' for the party.

Do you allow the Heirloom Weapon trait? - Heirloom Weapon

Female Human Fighter 1

Gah! I've built this twice now, and the thread monster has eaten it both times. Grr. I will get it done, though.

tentative backstory in profile - build I have is based on whats written, so depending on that being ok (and the trait to go with it) I can populate tyhe rest of the info for final OK.

Female Human Fighter 1

Haha! Success has been achieved over the thread monster! Now I only need to wait for a GM ruling regarding the Meteor Hammer.

Male Not man enough to be human

Kaylen, are you using the meteor hammer from legacy of fire, or the armory book? I don't have the armory book, but looking at LoF, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Winter, you probably want to look at the Second Darkness players guide for some of the traits. Looking for work might fit in nicely.

Heirloom weapon trait is fine. So long as you're not using a campaign trait from another adventure path, any trait should be okay.

Male Not man enough to be human

Let the games begin...

Female Human Fighter 1

Yup. Meteor Hammer from the Legacy of Fire Player's Guide. Current stats reflect Fortress Mode. Thank you.

-Edit-
Just realized I'm going to be mostly alone on the front lines. Feats and stats adjusted to reflect that.

Sorry was it Average wealth or roll wealth?

ROLL IN CASE!4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 6) = 18

Female Human Fighter 1

On the chance that it's roll wealth instead of average:

5d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 5, 5) = 21

Hi guys,

Its Friday night here, I will have time for a few more posts before bed this evening, but I have to go to work at 0600 tomorrow, and wont be back home until at least 2300 Sunday night... so likely to be posting again 0900 Monday!

Some gambling stuff

To keep the game running faster, any time you bet on a game, if it's less than 1gp, and you win, you will get a gold eye for winning. Betting more than a gold eye, you'll win in gold eyes.

Doing this so we don't get bogged down, and take days to get to the next portion of the adventure. Of course, depending on how everyone's luck is, it might not be a problem.

Female Elf Master Summoner 1

i'd like to get past the contest a little faster.

may i suggest we skip the rest of the contest and the DM rolls charisma checks for everyone to resolve the rest of it? so that we may move on to the next part of the story?

9 badges may be a little too many for one "encounter."

this method involves less thread bloat as well.

Out of curiosity, what time zone is everybody in? I'm in Ohio USA Eastern Standard Time. 1am Wednesday March 2nd. Just trying to get a feel for when everybody's available. I'm having a great time myself, and I hope everybody is enjoying themselves so far! Thanks again, Tom!

Female Human Fighter 1

California, USA Pacific Standard Time. Currently 10:37-ish PM. Sunday through Tuesday nights I have to go to sleep earlier for classes, but other days I tend to be up until the small hours. Tend to post during the evenings, occasionally during earlier afternoon.

Enjoying it greatly. :-)

Male Half-elf Rogue 1

I am also Eastern Standard Time. My schedule allows me to post pretty much anytime, so I usually check the forums every couple hours or so, even late at night.

I'm having alot of fun with the game, the character hook is unique and the roleplaying opportunities are wonderful. I'm really enjoying the interaction as well as the setting and feel of the game thus far. The characters are all very intriguing and the alignment decisions are already coming into play. I can't wait to see where this goes next. Thanks again Tom for running an enjoyable game!

Kira, I am trying to understand something and was hoping you could help shed some light onto the matter. In the game you said:

Kira Moonsong wrote:
the kobold in question is a former adventurer, a chaotic good adventurer who grew too powerful and makes entire cities shaken when he walks on the street

But your background says:

Kira Moonsong wrote:
she reluctantly had to settle for prostitution as the last of her soon to be inherited heirlooms were pawned off and her surrogate father, too weak to move further.

There seems to be some confliction here. I'm not trying to judge your ooc actions, I'm just trying to follow your logic. Does Kira have an inflated view of her paternal figurehead, because I cannot see why such a powerful kobold would allow his ward to slip into prostitution.

It seems you have deleted the post. My apologies, as my question is no longer valid.

Female Tian Rogue

Kira does have an inflated view of her paternal figurehead.

but that's because "daddy" told her stories of his former exploits and she beleives them to be true. she just doesn't want to accept the fact that her surrogate father is heavily hindered by his heavily advanced age. Kira's (now deleted) request would have been too much to ask for. and she was only truly seeking him out for emotional support. a shoulder to cry on. i had no intention of wreaking havoc all over the campaign.
