Playing around with a gun mage (alchemist)


Gunslinger Discussion: Round 1


So i started playing around with SSG extra alchemy discoveries and found these spagyric devices and thought what a great 'tinker' mechanic for the gunslinger.
It even has the word tinker in the description.

So I combined alchemist and gunslinger in an alchemist archetype and am just calling it gun mage for now.
Gave it two bad saves, one good (made ref the good save)

from alchemist (so far up to 9th level)
I kept Throw anything; alchemy; bombs; mutagen; discoveries; poison resit; poison use.

From gunslinger I kept; everything except bonus feats (which i dropped completely) tbh, he doesn't get much to begin with. I got a long list of skills im playing with and using 4+int.

I used the master chymist spell progression as a basis for the class and swapped extracts out for spagyric devices. so he uses spagyric devices as a 6th level alchemist, even though he's technically 9th level.

The one thing I added/changed to gunslinger list is gunslinger initiative as a class ability rather than a deed, and you get quick draw with guns only added in (kinda like samurai weapon expertise); so it doesnt cost grit, or have anything to do with it.

I made up a discovery I call bombs to shot, converting dice of bomb damage to numbers of shot you can make a day (so sacrificing a 4d6 bomb for example; can make 4d6 useable shots, powder and ball, per day. This shot follows the same rules as bombs for alchemists as far as who can use it.

For discoveries I took:
Bombs to shot
Mass Production
Extra Devices (so I can make devices as a 7th level alchemist)
and rocket. (firing bombs launched from my guns i thought was pretty cool)

For devices I have "Gyroscopic Targeting Device" taking up eyes and wrist slot and "Auto Holster" taking up waist and legs.

I havent priced these goodies out yet,as Im still working on ideas, obviously targeting device should give me bonus to hit and maybe some darkvision or something cool.
The auto holster Im thinking of something that has mage hand (so guns leap into my hand as part of quick draw, and dropped guns are "collected" for auto reloading, maybe it will also have some kind of haversack ability for carrying ammo guns, bombs, rockets etc.

Questions comments? Im pretty excited about the "auto holster" idea.

I still get mutagens, so Ill obviously be using the dex boost one almost exclusively.
