Casting defensively and hitting

Rules Questions

I just bought the SORD (very handy), and in the casting defensively section it says you also get a -4 to hit. Is this right?

I get where this interpretation comes from. If you fight defensively you get a bonus to AC but a -4 to hit, but I am not sure this applies to casting. It seems like a different mechanic.

How do you view this rule?

It's not a part of the game rules (at least I've never seen it nor heard about it).

All you are trying to do when casting a spell defensively is to avoid the attack of opportunity. The fact that you lose the spell if you fail is consequence enough without adding -4 to hit on top of it.

are you confusing fighting defensively and casting defensively?

I´m not familiar with this SORD source, but that´s not PRPG RAW...
Although it is a house-rule I like, and I tried to suggest that the two be more inter-twined during the Beta (to no avail)...
(I would have also rather found some way take into account your opponent´s combat prowess... e.g. base the DC on their CMB somehow, along with spell level..)

I have never heard of this ruling either, but it is listed in this reference document.

I thought it was a bit odd they interpreted the rules that way too.
