Healing domain spells

Homebrew and House Rules

This might be one of the most pointless paradoxes in the game - just about every healing domain spell is a cure wounds spell, which you can spontaneously cast anyway so there's absolutely no reason to normally prepare them, unless you're forced to. Basically the domain invalidates the spontaneous casting class ability. Does anyone normally houserule this out?

Rules: The cleric can “lose” any prepared spell that is not an orison or domain spell.

it makes all perfect sense if you consider everything. Altough healing domain might not have those "rare" spells, they aren't that worthless.

I do. Mind you, any cleric who takes the "healing" domain in my homebrew world follows a goddess who abhors violence and forbids her followers from dealing lethal damage to any living being. So, for these clerics, we remove their weapon proficiencies and let them maximize any spells provided from their domain for free.

We've also considered letting oracles of Braeya apply Merciful Spell to any spell they know without the increased casting time.

If you are an evil cleric (or a neutral cleric who has chosen to spontaneously cast inflict spells), preparing Healing domain spells would leave your other spell slots open for useful things :)

In point of fact, I have a halfling cleric of Pharasma with that exact build I want to play at some point...

This are extra spells from domain slots which you could not swap into cure spells otherwise. Having those cures prepared means you won't have to swap some other spell which you might want to use as is. And if you think that you will have enough cure spells available by swapping prepared spells you can always use those slots for your other domain.

I agree, but I've houseruled that clerics cannot spontaneously cast healing spells.

Clerics can only spontaneously cast spells which appear on their domain spells lists. It makes a lot more sense.
