Alchemists and Item Creation

Liberty's Edge

Just wondering if an Alchemist can actually use item creation feats, such as Craft Wondrous Items. It may come up in my group's Legacy of Fire game.

By raw, no. They do not cast spells and thus cannot qualify for item creation feats without taking master craftsman (which is a horrible feat tax)

Oh, boy. Looks like I'll need to find a +6 Headband of Alluring Charisma instead of making it myself, then.

So, question #2: Is it possible to put other spell effects on wondrous items- say, a Headband of Alluring Charisma with a Detect Evil effect or Magic Circle Against Law?

Yes. You just have to pay twice as much for the one you add. However, since you can use one magic item as parts to re enchant another one, it effectively means you can get this by paying double for the less expensive function the item has.

Interesting. My group typically ruled it as "progressively more expensive," similar to improving weapons/armor.

Basically, what I'm trying to do is this: Wind up with a +6 Headband of Alluring Charisma that makes the first person who wears it fall in love with the first person they look at, similar to a Philter of Love. My original plan with the game's DM was to get the Headband and add Permanency and either Charm Person or Dominate Person onto it. (The secondary plan was "Ja'Afar just buys a damn Philter of Love and asks Jasmina to drink it.")

If there's a more feasible/better way to go about it, I'm all ears at this point.

Headband of alluring charismia +6= 36,000

"Charm the first person to put it on"= Spell level x caster level x 2,000 gp2= 1*1*4,000. X2 for being a secondary function= 8,000

Total cost 45,000. Only problem is that's going to be a will save of 11.

If it's supposed to be a one time effect, recraft the elixer of love as an oil of love, and coat the inside of the headband with it. This would definitely need DM approval, but I'd allow it.

Also, raw the alchemists can't craft anything but potions, but I allow it with the caveat that they have access to a full alchemy lab during the crafting.

Hmm, I think my DM can go for that. He went for the idea that led up to me asking this to begin with, after all.
