Water and Lightning

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

So I cant seem to find any rules for electricity spells and how water alters them If any?
Our Druid wanted to use Call Lightning on a Chull while every one in the party was near it in 4 feet of water. The DM said it would probably act like a fireball for the area of effect.

Anyway no one can find rules covering this. Any one have an Idea or a page number?

The only spells that are altered, by RAW, due to water are [fire] spells, and then only if the spell would be submerged underwater.

Right. Remember it isn't Lightning...it is Magical Lightning. So the normal rules for electricity don't necessarily apply.

Provided the body of water is large enough that most likely wouldnt hurt anyone at all, the electrical charge gets spread over such a vast stretch of water it becomes meaningless.

Just like magical fire reacts differently I'd not look to closely at what natural laws of physics would do though. It is preference really, if you decide magical lightning takes effect in a fireball template like effect why not.

In 2nd edition the wizard's handbook gave lightning bolt a 20'radius when cast under water, we expanded that idea to function when cast in water as well. I suppose you could extrapolate that to other lightning spells without much effort.
