Eh, we had a terrible run. Probably for the best.

I could go for a nice long prolonged drought to be honest.

This weekend I'm definitely writing down the recipe for my pistachio saffron cake and pistachio buttercream and sending it to you!

Bender Rodriguez?

4-day weekend movie and TV ratings from worst to best:

Boy Kills World (movie): This was an enjoyable film with a lot of hilarious or awesome bits. Impus Major said, "Any one segment of the film is a solid 10/10, but none of it fits together." I'd disagree only in that the segments are hit-or-miss, but more hit than miss. Sam Raimi's fingerprints are all over it, and there are definitely some laugh out loud moments and some really cool moments, and it was enjoyable enough that I'd watch it again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again.

City Hunter (movie): Yet another live-action Japanese movie based on a popular manga/anime. It's well-done, enjoyable, and beats out Boy Kills World because the plot was more coherent and the scenes were more evenly solid.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (movie): Just like City Hunter, this was a solid, thoroughly enjoyable film that didn't stand out in any way as spectacular, but just good, solid entertainment.

Damsel (movie): Netflix kept recommending this to us, and from the description it sounded terrible. But we were bored tonight and watched it and I loved it. Everyone else ranked all the movies and shows in the exact same order, so the only differences in the reviews of Damsel was "very good" vs. "great". My one recommendation is to go in knowing as little as possible to let the plot unfold naturally to you.

The Atypical Family (TV series): One of the best-written Korean dramas we've seen. The plot is deep, rich, and chewy, and every single character has a consistent personality and all but one of them behave in an absolutely believable, realistic manner. We binge watched it instead of doing anything else for most of the weekend, and all of us rated it the #1 thing we watched. So pretty high praise.

A massive understatement. City Hunter is a true classic older than some regulars in the thread. It isn't for everyone and at this stage (2024) is likely relying on star power very heavily, but it was groundbreaking when it first came out. Very much a show for people who grew up on Magnum PI and the like, but EXTREMELY Japanese in mindset and humor. An acquaintance was a collector of the manga and her bookshelves were bowing under the weight

I considered going to a cinema to see Furiosa, but I have a headache, also, work to do. Maybe next Wednesday.

There's a reason I like to save up my vacations so I can take them a week at a time.

Coming back to work midweek after 5 days of late nights, eating out, and doing next to nothing is hard. I feel like I should take the afternoon off as sick time just to catch up on my sleep. If you take a full week off, then you're coming back on Monday and everyone pretty much expects you to be slow...

EDIT: Yes, in theory I have infinite PTO so I can do whatever the heck I feel like. The reality is that deadlines don't mysteriously vanish, so PTO is more realistically, "Take as much time off as you want as long as you still hit the perfectly reasonable deadlines we've set for you."

It didn't used to be that way; there were huge numbers of lawsuits in the early naughts because engineers theoretically got time off but their deadlines were set so tight they couldn't possibly take any. My deadlines are pretty lax, but they still exist so I can't just take a week off whenever the heck I feel like it.

I think I am getting done with Nioh 2. I reached the point where I don't really see anything new - while it's great to finally plow through (at least some of) the enemies that were frustrating earlier, but I have finished all main missions and most of the side missions. Those that are left are apparently boss rushes.

Also, I have maxed my (favorite) Dual Swords skill.

Replaying the story on the Dream Of The Strong (NG+) is getting old either. Once I finish the current mission, an NG+ version of the one whose boss almost made me RAGEQUIT (as opposed to others that only made me consider doing that), as I want to see how will I far now, better knowing the game, and having actual gear and stats.

I decided to give it a try (again) and installed DS2...

Oh, boy, the controls are mess. I uninstalled without even reaching an actual fight. How did I managed to get four hours of gameplay the last time I run it?!

I suspect that within 5 to 10 years I forget how atrociously bad part it is and try installing it again.

Still waiting for a reasonable sale on Elden Rings...

Lets hope they did not mess controls for the PC port.

I found them more pliable to my taste than a Single Sword or a Big Sword, though both of the latter were good weapon types too.

And then there were (clawed or not) fists that were close second.

Tonfas, kusarigama, splitstaves, and spears were fun, but not as much as swords. Axes, hatches, and switchglaives weren't really my thing (I haven't reached 120k proficiency threshold required to unlock special training mission for switchglaves, nor have I completed such mission axes).

It is done. I have steamrolled that damned spider-cow (no, seriously, that's how Japanese envisioned gyuki), very satisfying after the crap it gave me when I reached it the first time.

Shame there isn't really more content. I could play with combat mechanics a lot more, mastering getting passable skill with more weapons, but it would be really repetitive now. Also, I would probably have to keep grinding some bosses (whom I can reliably beat by now, but it was road uphill to get here) to get missing secret skills, some of which are quite appealing.

No.

There is the first game, which is allegedly a bit worse, which I might snatch at some later time. Sadly, there is no third part of the series—the the next game from this company, while somewhat similar is widely considered inferior to this one.

I have to admit I will miss it.

Maybe I will even reinstall it one day, who knowns.

220.9 hours according to Steam. It was a blast. Frustrating and tedious at times, especially in the beginning, but a blast nevertheless.

*looks at the review*

Cap, have you seen Rise Of The Ronin?

So instead of starting a new game, or even better, focusing of the one of many games that I have currently installed...

I am installing Far Cry Primal to play some of it again...

Huh? Ubisoft Connect now tries to appeal to people with an attention span of a squirrel, by adding the option of starting to play the game before it finishes installing?

I think that I might get spoiled by the speed of my internet into being willing to wait an hour or so for the game to install...

I'm just waiting for assassins creed.

Ah, there's nothing like going after young men through their stomachs. (Freehold might argue that there's a more effective organ to target, but I don't have the means for that one.)

My rule is simple: "If you go shopping for me, you can buy yourself lunch on my dime."

If they liked to eat out at decent places, this might be an issue, as a restaurant lunch around here is typically about $25, and can easily run up to around $40 even at what most people would consider a middle-of-the-road restaurant.

Fortunately, they like $10 sandwiches. And paying $10 to save me from having to spend an hour shopping is golden, in my mind.

I've discovered a new guilty pleasure.

Pissing off my ex-wife by just existing in the same vicinity as her.

The man, the myth, the legend, and the reason Sebastian's image is a pony, and a Bella Sara Charter Superscriber.

I started on Paizo late enough that I didn't cross paths with him (I think in the 2006-2010 era the Paizo employees were much more engaged directly with their players, and I came along after that), but I certainly knew his name and his excellent reputation.

May he exist in a postlife of natural 20s for himself and natural 1s for his foes.

I remember the day I made the enemies list. In fact, I celebrate Enemies Day on the anniversary.

I don't remember what it was I said in the old Paizo Chat, but I remember it was funny. :D
