This is the most wild turn of events ever. I won supervisor of the year and the district manager wants to talk to me in the next couple of days, presumably about the somewhat scathing but professional resignation letter I sent on the 2nd.
I have no idea what the conversation will be, but it will feel like the biggest flex to win Supervisor of the Year and then leave.

It's funny.
I'm very, very good at what I do. I'm also good at adapting and learning new technology.
But...
...I'm older, and I'm at the topmost grade at my company so I can't get promoted. I'm somewhat obsessive-compulsive so I enjoy routine and doing the same thing every day.
So my manager wants me to "shine" so she can justify getting me raises and bonuses and encourages me to volunteer for high-profile projects where I can work my a$$ off and really stand out to upper management. And I'd just rather not.
I know a LOT of people feel the opposite, and would jump at the opportunity, but I'm content with what I do. If someone else is as good, let them have the limelight.
And there's the rub.
I'm really, really good.

Success. I reviewed the current documentation and told my manager the project was a cluster**** waiting to happen and she pulled me off of it.
"We have no guidance, no direction, but we're in a hurry," is NOT a project I want to be on.
That sounds like my kind of project!
Hopefully they have a place for me to keep my tools while I'm working on it.

Pulled the spare can out of the trunk. It, too, was empty.
Went to the auto parts store. Got a new five-quart bottle of 0w20.
Came home. Poured it in. Something told me to check under the car.
I have an oil leak.
Joy.
I'm currently at 189,000 miles. I am not wasting money taking it to the mechanic. As soon as WW finally gets a job, I'm trading it in. I just have to keep buying oil until then.

Yes...a little bit. But to be fair so is NH :D
I feel like I've earned a little flexing for all the crap my job has put me through to this point. Especially since one of my classmates at the trade school is trying to get me into a position that not only pays me more now, but also uses what I'm currently learning and promises to advance my pay when I finish.

I was joking about a legacy FAWTL rule saying that whoever writes the top of a page post is supposed to be naked.
Not sure how, why, and the exact details, it was in place before I came here.

if possible, I would drive to your supervisor of the year event dressed as a delivery man, hand you a box, make you sign for it, have you open it to reveal a microphone inside, just to drop it as you quit.

Monday afternoon I got my COVID booster, following recommended practice to get the Moderna booster after my original Pfizer inoculation.
The good news? The reaction isn't nearly as bad as it was for the second dose. Barely any fever to speak of and I haven't had to take any time off of work.
The bad? My left arm feels like I got punched by a professional fighter. It's sore.
But it was nice to get it done -- around here our vaccination rate is hovering around 90%, so once boosters became available to the general public all the appointments filled up fast; GothBard's appointment isn't until next week, and the kids may not get theirs until January.

Yes, the first Moderna injection hurt. The second one cast heightened, maximized, empowered, intensified make miserable out of a 15th level spell slot.
That booster shot can skydive out a Plutonian airlock, as far as I'm concerned.
Anyhow, I've had a couple sick days, fighting off a surprising respiratory infection. I blame my management team -- forcing me to work a Saturday. Horrendous financial pressures.

No pain for me beyond the initial injection. No side effects beyond inflammation for the second. Not time for a booster for me yet. Went Pfizer. Did not have any interesting inflammatory effects, however.
Heal up, from what little I know respiratory can have you curled up in bed, wondering why you suddenly have the strength and stamina of a sickly preschooler.

Just hope the relevant arm turns into a tentacle. That should help create a suitable atmosphere.
No D&D last night, as the DM is rushed off her feet making dice trays, so we had a Call of Cthulhu one-shot instead. I died.
This evening, I mainly got sidesword drills I should know off by heart WRONG, so it serves me right that they're playing Xmas songs in the pub, and that this spiced stout tastes like boiled cake that's been left in the back of the cupboard for three months and been wee'd on by stoats. Such is my punishment for sinning against the Sword Lords.

I made the mistake of doubling up with a flu shot and my third moderna shot. Hours 36-60 were pretty horrible, especially as compared to shots 1, 2. Fever, chills, fuzzy head, fatigue.
In hindsight maybe dont double up flu and booster. YMMV
Yeah, I spread them out by a week for exactly that reason. The flu shot usually gives me a mild fever for 2-3 days and makes me feel slightly sick. The second Pfizer shot made me feel moderately ill for a day and a half. I didn't want to risk combining the booster with the flu shot.
Thanks, now I feel better.

Marvel Movie Timeline #4: Iron Man 2: What I think is interesting is that when I originally watched these films, I agreed with everyone else that Iron Man was a much better movie than Iron Man 2. Yet after watching both of them recently, I greatly prefer Iron Man 2:
- The villains' motivations are believable
- All the characters' actions are believable and well-motivated
- The leveling of the tech is believable
Other than the existence of "iron man tech", the movie was all in all quite believable. I liked the slow pace, and the character development, and the fact that even heroes and good friends have fundamental character flaws. It was a much more "human" movie and less of a "superhero" movie, and maybe that's why it got such poor reviews the first time around. There really aren't any interesting fights or action scenes. It's the stuff that happens between the fights that I found interesting.

I agree with you almost completely, though I will say that when Happy fights that one dude while Black Widow takes down an entire compound was a memorable fight scene, especially when he knocks the guy out and looks up super proud to see everyone else tangled up or knocked out.
Also Hammer is one of my favorite MCU villains.

Eh. I have a schedule which allows for those lost hours and the net benefit to my mental well being by having both behind me is still on the plus side. We have two that are too young to receive the shots yet, so in general I feel I have to be extra careful.
And, it may have helped dodge catching from some minor exposures I managed to let slip past my paranoia.
But for those folks who do not have the luxury of being out of commission for a couple days...do spread them out.

Good Afernood there John!
Going to get my booster, but I NEVER get flu shots, I in fact almost never get sick period...dunno if that will fade as the years wear on, but at 41 it still hasn't.
I don't love having to get injections such as these, but I would rather be safe than regret it. A bit of a sore arm is about all the reaction I had to either of my first two shots.

That wasn't so much a "fight scene" as a "there are mooks in Black Widow's way" scene.

I considered it when I saw note about free flue shots when I asked about boosters. I didn't signed up for those, though.

I normally skip flu shots as well, but this year and last I went ahead and got them. In part because...well, this is not the time to get the flu and MAYBE need to be hospitalized for it and in part because my household has 3 people < 6 years old including two in preschool/kindergarten...so kids and runny noses and and and and and....so yeah, I caved and got these flu shots.
Edit: Personal decision on the flu shot. You do you. I have my reasons.

I am beyond livid.
Impus Major's final was scheduled for Thursday the 16th. We've been working our butts off trying to get him ready by that date.
Last night at 7:33 pm the instructor announced that the final is TODAY. It was the only mention of it outside of class.
I don't care how Impus Major does. I'm filing a formal complaint. I call bull****.
EDIT: Already wrote the dean. Feel a little better.

Yep. Impus Major's only in one class this semester. So exam 4 was a surprise, "Take home over Thanksgiving break" and the final is a surprise, "Your exam is a week early."
I've started with the Dean. I'll escalate quickly. I'm pissed.

As well you should. That is not how a professor who is interested in teaching well, or being a decent human should behave. Dude is a plain wang muffin. Exams should be when the syllabus fraggin says they are, I mean things can happen, but this sorta thing is clearly not based on emergencies or other such valid reason an exam date "may" change.
Again, PLAIN GIANT WANG MUFFIN!!!

And I love Impus Major.
He just took screenshots of all class announcements.
After I'm off work, instead of studying for his final we'll be sending another formal complaint to the dean, this time with evidence.
Yeah, this instructor needs a smack-down.
Maybe I'll just apply for and take his job. He sure as heck doesn't deserve it, and I'm overqualified for it...
EDIT: Yeah, "overqualified" sounds like boasting, but try applying for community college positions as a Ph.D. They loathe you, and you're guaranteed to get asked, "Aren't you 'overqualified' for this position? Why do you want to be a community college instructor, anyway?", as if no one with a Ph.D could ever actually care about, y'know, teaching.
