While looking up Lickitongue and its various evolutions, I discovered multiple pokemon have the Lick ability. I was not wearing my glasses when I was reading this, so I was eventually disheartened to learn there is no Pokémon named Ambiporn. It is in fact named Ambipom.

I may or may not miss Amby and also may or may not seek to attach a "Hello, my name is Ambiporn" sticker to her shirt.

Naturally I was naked when I discovered this. Wouldn't YOU rip off your clothes at this discovery?

There's a group of guys doing CY work across the street today. Funny; I didn't think anyone around here DID that kind of thing. They must have moved here from the Midwest. :-P

If I can sneak over once they're gone I'll send CY pictures...

The tequila for cooking and the Everclear for cleaning.

Yep. Got my priorities straight.

And while I'm not 100% sure, I believe that the award for "oldest bottle" goes to a bottle of "Alhnbas Rakish" that my friend's father gave me as a going-away present when I left Istanbul in July of 1987. (Googling, the closest match I get is "Tekel Raki Alhnbas", which looks close enough. In fact, here's a picture!)

Check the dates and value. Maybe something of it can be cashed and added to the inheritance you will leave... To your kids, of course!

Oh, we're keeping the good stuff; the stuff I'm throwing out is all of the, "Cheap crap my parents bought or we bought or we got as a gag gift," variety. In other words, a bit over half is going down the drain.

You should see the new project, it's excessively unnecessary, and possibly Yithian in design, which is a bit unsettling because I'm the one that designed it.

Just texted you pictures, CY. Looks like some kind of weird octagonal sidewalk pattern. They had trouble with the bends and curves of a typical Bay Area sidewalks. (Earthquakes + tree roots = Nothing is straight here.)

About to go home. Good night, everyone.

Congrats on staying clean, and the cravings/thoughts are natural as your body tries to tell you to get that back again.

Despite not taking things like aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, acetaminophen, etc for almost nine years, I still get painful moments where I *almost* break down and get something.

And then I remember what a *hot mess* I was drugging myself to the point of no-pain when I cleaned up I was taking 1200-1800 mg ibuprofen to start a work shift, and then about half that at lunchtime at work. I wish I'd stopped sooner -- cutting out that allowed me to mostly be able to regulate my migraine pain as well as it causing some lasting damage in my legs.

Be strong, it's something you've set as a goal, NH.

A rainstorm, wind, and a lot of hail.

Temperature fell pleasantly...

But the wind also fell a tree a few meters from my home. If the wind was blowing a tad to the side, it's branches would end in my window.

Apparently the grar was enough we haven't played it since. It may end up being a "return to Steam" game, but it didn't seem that bad to me.

But then, I stink at ALL first-person shooter games, so I didn't find it particularly good or bad.

Weird; I always think of Mount Shasta as a "local" landmark -- I don't expect people outside of California to have heard of it (other than the soda).

Don't get me wrong; it's a spectacular mountain. I just didn't think of it as particularly "famous".

To be fair, you also thought CVS was a local chain, so maybe that's just a blind spot for you?

I knew CVS was multi-state, but frequently megachains change names as they move eastward. Safeways are common throughout the west, but I believe they change names once you cross the Rockies. I had no idea whether or not CVS kept its name the same. I probably should have called it a "possibly local" change.

Mt Shasta is pretty much a hippie commune.

The Dero have had free reign there since the 60s.

I only know of it because of Richard Shaver's work, and because the Rosicrucians did (do?) Peculiar Things on it.

I lived there for a while in my early teens before I moved to Florida.

The woo woo factor is high, but it's also really redneck (the stores were selling spotted owl toilet paper). There were more crackpot theories about what was really going on in/under/over the mountain than I could count... the Lemurian contingent, the "God is an alien who visits the mountain in his silver spaceship whenever there is a lenticular cloud over the mountain" contingent (that was a big one), and the volcano worshippers being the three I remember the most. Whenever my dad visited, he was as gleeful walking into the various new age book-and-crystal shops as he was going to Disneyworld.

Now that GothBard is done sorting the alcohol, the discard pile is appallingly sweet: Not just raspberry syrup and grenadine, but bottles and bottles of schnapps, pomegranate liquor, Bailey's, and many other "alcohols" with more sugar than alcohol in them.

Awww, grenadine and Irish cream.

The best drink I ever had used Irish cream and some sort of coffee liquor, IIRC.

It's called a Mudslide, and you can make it with or without the vodka.

You can also add vanilla ice cream for some true decadence.

Very close, though I think the version I drank didn't use cream (beyond what was in Irish cream). I am not sure if it used vodka or not.

The place where they served it called it "Cold Kiss" (or maybe that was another very similar drink).

It was great.

Meh. Another failed mission in Wildlands - and not because of death but because I was detected when I had just left enemy facility where I was supposed to leave a truck full of money undetected.

Quit. I'll get back to it later. I am just a few missions shy of finishing it.

I'm a little over halfway done with the sundial.

So... smart meters.

Our water utility shows us as having used 30+ gallons per day while we were on vacation. I immediately suggested that grossly-incompetent general plumber had gifted us with a leak, so I started shutting off valves and checking the meter.

The end result? At worst, our leakage is 4 gallons per day. Either our house sitters were using the bathroom a ludicrous amount (our toilet is under 1.3 gallons per flush), or something's rotten in Denmark.

"Gee. The physical meter shows me using 4 gallons per day, and your connected smart meter is showing 30. Want to explain that?"

And yes, I'm in the process of auditing our water use right now so I can find out just how much the "smart" meter is ripping us off.

The only drinks I have that have not been drunk are a) some akavit I bought from Ikea, and b) a bottle of dubious Filipino gin that was purchased for the cool label featuring the archangel Michael holding a sword, as opposed to any other qualities it might have.

If I ran a DND game and had a soundboard with laughs, cheers, boos, and other canned sitcom audience reactions on it so I could provide feedback to the players, how long would it take for them to beat me over the head with it?

My guess is 27 minutes.

Gotta say, I'm grossly disappointed.

It's Talky McTalktalk's 21st birthday.

And one of his friends is seriously pushing to try to get him to drink 21 drinks.

I've expressed my opinion quite explicitly. If he persists, he'll be perma-banned from my house. (The friend, not Talky.)

I thought these guys were smarter than that.

Had the benefit of being in Guam while in the Service, and the general rule of thumb there was 'if you wanted to do the heavy drinking you'd go to the off-base bar' on-base the law was 21 for hard stuff but beer/light stuff was allowed.

Had the very interesting experience of celebrating my 21st birthday at three points: Guam, Hawaii during a layover, and then San Francisco. By the time I'd hit the mainland the very *last* thing I wanted was alcohol, so in a pure renegade move had a Shirley Temple to round off the 'longest birthday'.

It all turned out OK. The *only* alcohol for the evening was a free beer he got with dinner at the sushi place, and then one of those mini-bottles of sake. Maybe 3 drinks total. Can’t complain about that.

My 21st birthday was the stuff of legends (which, considering it's Wisconsin, already had a high bar to clear) and I've hardly gotten drunk since then.

Because all the materials are either onsite or delivered to me I've been driving one of the older pickup trucks (since I also don't complain about having to drive an older pickup truck.

My notes I included this week were as follows "Considering it has 290k miles and still runs like a champ I feel that #26 deserves to have a big ass jet engine mounted on the back. At the very least it needs a nice beefy death ray mounted on the roof".
