Yeah, it's sad:
(1) The kids were 100% clueless, not manipulative. They heard that I was going to cook fish tacos at some point this week. They wanted fish tacos. They ignored all other pertinent information. (And it's just mahi mahi marinated in lime, tequila, and cheap Costco taco seasoning, then grilled, then stuffed in a tortilla with cheese, lettuce, and possibly avocado, sour cream, and salsa, depending on taste.)
(2) There was just a local news article: "Are you ready for the Berkeley cold snap?"
I just re-plasticked my roof on Saturday in 75° F weather. I've had the windows open every day this week, and I only open them when it's over 60° F because that's as low as my living room heater goes.
I suspect the "cold snap" will be in the high 30s overnight.
If you have shelter and you can't handle 30° F weather, you have deep issues.
(Yes, we have a very large homeless population, but for the most part they have plenty of materials so 30° F isn't a serious problem for them, either. But at least they have an excuse if it is.)
EDIT: Just checked the thermometer. 7:02 am, before sunrise, and it's a frigid 52°F. Oh, the humanity!

When Aiymi lived in Texas she had an interesting experience. She drove The Adult Kid, then about 6 years old, to school on a nice, clear, sunny day. Temps in the low 40's. She got to school and nobody was there. She started to make calls and found out school was closed for the day because it *might* snow. She looked at the forecast again and it was a 40% chance of 1 inch of snow. So they cancelled school.

Any chance at all of snow in Texas anywhere south of Abelene gets the same response as any activity in the vicinity of Madagascar in a game of Pandemic.

This was right on that line, about 35 miles south of Ft Worth.

On Sunday I played Betrayal at Baldur's Gate for the first time, and I got double luck bonuses -- beginner's and birthday. Chose the wizard to play, got the Int boost, the Eye of Vecna, and ended up blasting the betrayer into oblivion before she could even do anything.
We just might have to get this game, or the original horror one, what's it called. :)

Most of the scenarios actually favour the players and are quite winnable, though there was one game where one PC made a heroic sacrifice bull rushing frankestein's monster off the tower. So basically as the sun rose, the other two PCs were watching the sun rise feeling grateful they made it, yet sad seeing the broken remains of their fellow PC and frankestein's monster on the grounds.
Then I ended up flailing I effectually with tentacles at PCs in another game. That's like, so useful?

Jeez, even the General gets off tomorrow.
As I mentioned upstream, I really wouldn't mind all the coverage of the "worst cold snap in a generation" if the local news stations didn't pretend as if *we* had anything to do with it.
When the correct answer to, "What should you do about the arctic cold blast?" is, "Don't go to the Midwest, dummy!", you're really NOT part of the story, no matter how much you WANT to be.
We had a high of 65°F today, and a low around 51°F. That's actually a bit warmer than usual.
Don't ask me how *I* am going to deal with the cold snap. At worst, I won't go outside barefoot...

40 degrees is my cut off for barefoot outside.

Question for all FAWTLies of a certain age range:
What did you do when your midlife crisis hit? And how did you get over it?
...Asking for a friend.
Don't think I'm there yet…
Then again with me crashing at least once a month due to depression, I don't really see me getting any further riled up by further anxiety, my lack of accomplishments, and my pressing mortality.…
Damn.
*Resets his blackboard count of "Days without succumbing to cynicism/ being a nihilistic prick" to 0*
I think Cover Turtle's mood may be linked to the gloomy weather in Europe because its winter.
Actually I think Cover Turtle might need a vacation in somewhere sunny but temperate. If he came to Asia, he might melt.
*sticks a warm glowing sun under Cover Turtle's blanket*
*Scratches turtle nose*
Its partially correct. My depression are always worse during the dark, wintery times.
But thanks for the sun! there few things I love more then snuggling around in a really warm bed ^^'
As much as I hate being somewhere were the sun beats down relentlessly on me, I think that a really long vacation, far away from home, would do me some good.
If I had the time, money and opportunity I would love nothing more then going on a months long trip to Southeast Asia, where I'd most probably drown myself in my own brand of snobbery and encultured debauchery…hopefully with an added dash of wilderness exploration.
…I'm already going on for far too long, spending far too much time on this… (which is another point, I hate using hours to hammer out a proper post which lives up to my exacting standarts).
So I might rant tomorrow...then again I might not depending on how I'm feeling…
As I said, there are more I could (and would like to) rant about…
But there's also some propriety consider. While a lot of my problems come from a lack of confidence in myself, my feelings of inadequacy, my obsessive tendencies and this godawful pit in my stomach that feels like its consuming me from the inside out. That I can talk about here.
Somethings though…
Those require some thawing up to be…palatable.
Love, Sexuality or Erotic fetishism isn't topics for everyone, it can quickly become either a case of oversharing to people who aren't interested or, even worse, making the listeners uncomfortable or offended.
I don't want to step on any toes intentionally, though I recognize that I might do so unintentionally anyways (which frankly is often hard to predict, stuck in our individual PoWs as we are)…thus my general reluctance.
I'll chew on it a bit more, but if I decide to put anything up, it'll be behind a spoiler so that people, who aren't interested, get amble opportunity to skip it.

Our parents and significant others hated me and my younger brother because when we were on our ski trips we saw no point in bothering with boots if we were just going between cabins (about 60' in the snow for the "close" cabins, and 150-200' in the "far" one). So we'd just go barefoot in the snow, then warm our feet when we got in.
"How can you go barefoot in the snow?!?!?!?"
"It warms up."

South East Asia isn't that an expensive place. Its the air tickets out that cost a bomb. I had a nice vacation to Labun island for a 2 day, 1 night stay, food provided, with all those pictures for SGD 200.
Singapore is the more expensive spot around South East Asia. Also, Cover Turtle, how good are you with mud? Hardcore wildiness exploration in the Pahang jungles involves quite a bit of that, and leeches. And the trail can be rough. Hiking stick advised.

Businesses all around have announced that they aren't opening tomorrow for the safety of their employees.
My office is staying open.
My office is holding a job fair.
Anyone want to hire a somewhat surly middle-aged IT guy?
They just fired one of our desk clerks this morning. You want her job?
