I have to wake up in a little over 12 hours to get ready to go to the airport.
No, the laundry isn't dry.
No, the packing isn't done.
No, I haven't made the anisette biscotti for Grandma yet.
No, I couldn't take the books back to the library because the kids have lost the Tintin volume they borrowed on my account. Thank goodness our library system doesn't charge late fees.
BUT, I did help the kids clean and vacuum their bedroom, so I can no longer call it the Pit of Despair. Or the Bog of Eternal Stench.
And my mother-in-law is balking at coming here to pick us up to take us to the airport, and wants us to drive to her place so we can go from there, but I really want to leave my car in my driveway while we're away so it looks like someone is home. Now she's not answering her texts.
I'm feeling profoundly unmotivated and grumpy.

We didn't really buy anything.
I mean, I got a couple of small things for the kids (Hilo vol. 4 and a new watch for Val, Lumberjanes #2 and some magnetic earrings for Hermione, and a dress and a rock-and-roll ABC book for the baby), but we're not doing gifts for grown-ups.
I'm a BIG fan of lumberjanes! I got Trade nr 10 today as a christmas gift to myself :)

Gotta be awake in 8 hours, I finished packing the kids, got them fed, bathed, and into bed, with their cases, coats, and carry-ons by the door. Still have to bake the cookies for my mom and finish packing my own suitcase and carry-on, put out the trash and recycling, and do the final cleaning. I'm hoping to get to bed by 10 and get 6 hours. Yeah, right.

Mort, you are too secretive and never tell us anything! Why aren’t you normal like me or captain yesterday? Playing D&D is the devil! Fantasy is stuff and nonsense, whereas those teen books are totally accurate in every way... basically religiously correct! You should imitate Orthos and me with advanced financial planning!
It’s simple: just change LITERALLY EVERYTHING about who and what you are! No big deal!

I have found one even worse than FATAL. Yes, I know what game system you are talking about. Yes, I'm very serious. No, I shan't give away the name or any information about it at all, because, honestly, I want it to die in quiet ignominy. Either way, you shouldn't play it.

Such was the case with my ex wife. I loved her dearly, but when you want it every day and she's borderline asexual, well... It contributed to the divorce, to say the least.
I tried to do things "right" and honestly we both probably would've been happier if I didn't and just moved on.
Meanwhile every other woman I dated before and after her has been quite the opposite in drive.

Hmm Its complex. There is a whole subset of people in the south that had that married first mindset so they married so they could then divorced 6 months laters with lifetimes of regret. My mom is in fact one of those people. (or was I don't want to know any details now) To be fair I know a couple that married was there first time and have a great relationship but it really is gonna depend greatly.
Now that wasn't the reason I gave up on abstinence after puberty. That reason was called hormones.

I wouldn't say "desperate" is my phrase, but I'd actively like to play something new, you know?
But so far, I've really enjoyed modern horror stuff a lot - Dresden Files, World of Darkness, etc. Not so much Call of Cthulhu, 'cause any game where you're pretty much meant to lose isn't fun.
Legend of the Five Rings has been the most fun I've had with an RPG of late. A nice mix of medium crunch and heavy flavor, and Eastern Fantasy is similar enough to Western to remain familiar but different enough to mix things up and not be so drab. It also is so heavy on the social aspect there's entire schools for that (the courtiers). I also like the unique aspect of the Taint as both a threat and a potential weapon for those who dabble in the darkness. There's a mechanical reason to remain pure (it'll eventually kill you, plus people will try to kill you, cause it's a disease they can catch) but there's also a reason to get tainted (it makes you more powerful). Totally a cool setting and system.
FATE has been a really easy to use system, and I really like it 'cause it has all the official Dresden Files RPG (huge DF fan), it's pay-what-you-want, it's classless (I prefer classless systems, 'cause more custom), and it's really one of the most RP heavy systems in comparison to others cause of the way good traits can be used for bad, bad traits for good, etc.
Savage Worlds is so simple and fast it's great. Combat goes swiftly, seems high octane, but you don't get bogged down with a ton of modifiers and crap. It's another classless system, which is nice, and it has Deadlands, which is a great Weird West setting.
I really like settings that have existing lore - I'm a sucker for reading over Wikis and PDFs. I mostly enjoy reading the entire collection of L5R just for the lore of it. The varied cultures of the clans, the history, the cosmology...so cool. That's one reason if I love DF - I read all the books, and am re-reading them currently. It's nice when you actually know the universe you're playing in as well as someone living there would. It really helps you get in character with design and reactions and such.
I also for a while have been wanting to do a "street level" supers game, but can't find a decent system for that. Mutants and Masterminds is nice and customizable, but there's something about it...seems a bit unbalanced.

The Vagrant Erudite |

Honestly, it would be a lot more fair and easier to wait for marriage if males weren't so g~*@*!n horny as teenagers and in our 20s.
As I rounded past 35 and am heading towards 40, only now am I at the point where I don't want it all the damn time. It's f~!*ing liberating.
You don't have to pretend like you care about things you don't, give up on your stances, and acquiesce to every fight your significant other brings up. You can stand your ground and actually mean say what you mean, cause you know what? A night without getting your rocks off won't hurt you. I broke up with a very hot woman cause she was a pain in my ass. And it didn't bother me. Never would've pulled that s%*@ in my 20s...and in my teens I would've let someone be practically abusive if it meant I got laid.
Frankly, the sex drive of a young man is a blasted curse. In my 30s, I get it when I want, and I want it when I get it, and I'm good. It's not some unbalanced b%%*@#!+ like a decade ago (or like with the wrong person in this instance - thus the try them before you buy them analogy FH put up earlier is so right). Maybe some guys will disagree with what I said. I dunno. Bipolar disorder supposedly gives you an unnaturally high drive, so maybe that's just me - but sometimes you just don't want to apologize for stuff, because you don't feel like you're wrong, and you wanna actually win something, but then you're like ugh, how long is she going to cut me off if I pick this moment? Whatever - "yes, honey, I'm sorry I said your sister was a horrible mother just because she pulled her kids out of an A school five miles down the road to put them in a D school across the street from her because she was too lazy...I mean, because she didn't want to drive them."

The Vagrant Erudite |

I never dated anyone that used sex as a bargaining chip. Plus most of them have been pretty well I don't want to get to graphic. So i'm lucky that way I guess.
My first girlfriend totally did. My ex-wife didn't intentionally, but she just wouldn't be in the mood if she was angry at me. Cause and effect relationship.
So it would be "what matters more? My pride or my libido?" I'm not a super prideful person, but the example above with said sister? Yeah. I normally wouldn't back down about that being a bad mother, but guess what I did in that instance, 'cause it had already been over a week and I was in my 20s.
I don't think I've gone a week, let alone two with anyone else I dated. So yeah - try out your f@@~ing pants before you buy them, because they might not fit like you're used to wearing them, and the store return policy is a b+&@*, if you get my analogy.

I got back to work tonight to to be told that they are finally almost ready to reopen the pool. It's been closed for almost a month while they "worked on the hot tub". The hot tub has been leaking for over 2 years, but the leaking was happening under the concrete, which means that they would have to jackhammer it out, fix the pipes, and then re-pour the concrete. They didn't want to do this, but eventually decided that they had to do something. Now, because no-one told me differently, I assumed that is exactly what they were doing. But, nope. They have actually taken the hot tub out and filled in the hole with concrete. So now he don't have a hot tub, which is great as far as I am concerned. Not really. If someone has the door propped open for a long time it can start to smell a bit, but the pool room is pretty well ventilated so it doesn't smell to strongly. Plus, it is a saltwater pool so it uses less chlorine.

Yep. Basically you put salt in the water and it creates chlorine as needed instead of having to keep dumping buckets of the stuff in there. At least, that's how it's supposed to work. I mentioned the other day how our system is s~~$.

I've never had much luck with frost. It seems I can either get cards that give me frost orbs, or I can get cards that give me extra orb slots and focus, but not both. And three frost orbs with no additional focus doesn't give you enough block to be worthwhile.
