Pfff, Ive given up on fancy wrapping. Most of the family is *rip it off in as little time as possible* when it comes to wrapping.

Of course, I can all annoy them to heck unwrapping everything ever so carefull.

My company's owner is immensely picky and particular about Xmas gift wrapping. And since he passes out all the gifts at the company party, he critiques and criticizes every single one, pointing out the responsible parties by name, as the gifts are shared.

And whatever powers you believe in help you if you dared to get a bag for your present instead of wrapping it.

Wow. He sounds like a real a#$*#&#.

That's somewhat appropriate.

Sweet holy mother of f***, Goth Bard is texting me pictures of a three thousand dollar refrigerator.

Why?

Because it has "SMEG" across the front.

Which is problematic, because if it's a smeggy fridge for smegheads, you can't put anything in it but takeaway curry and maybe a box of stale doughnuts.

LOL. What did you do, look up the price?

It was front and center at the appliance store, and we thought, "OMG! We need to put this in Whimseyshire!"
Then we opened it up and saw the price tag and thought, "No, no we don't!"

For a $3000 fridge, it was tiny. Impus Major would fit in there, but I'm skeptical that Impus Minor would.

I don't think it's how Major and Minor should work...

Yeah, yeah, I know, Impus Major is smaller despite being older.

I got the no dating until you've finished your studies and the please go outside and make friends thing from my parents.

I always thought the abstinence until marriage was a good thing... until I hit puberty anyways.

My group just...ugh. They're so damn "everything must be exactly the same" traditional D&D/PF it's starting to really bore me. I've played RPGs for over 15 years now, and honestly, 99% has been "Medieval European High Fantasy" - and I think, at this point, I'm just straight up sick of it.

They won't bend. I know I complained about it before, but I think at this point I'm starting to not even have fun playing anymore.

I still like RPGs, and I want to play, but I don't have friends here, nobody in this area is LFP (and those who have groups all play f+$!ing D&D), and PBP isn't the real experience.

Is it worse to hang on to mediocrity? Or just quit altogether? Because like I've complained before, I'd take any kind of change, but these people won't budge on system or setting; hell they won't even try E6/E7 Pathfinder. I just don't know what else to do. I don't really like devoting hours of my week to a hobby I find kinda "meh" of late.

Bad isn't quite the word. The GM is good at his job, and the other players are nice and not drama, so that's a positive...but it is mediocre. Middling. "Meh" is about the best I can say.

If it were outright bad I wouldn't have to think about it.

I'm secretive with my hobbies until I have proof that you are "cool". Its all my moms fault from 16-18 I had to hide the fact me and my friends played D&D becuase she watched some stupid program on TV that said it was the Devil.

My group is online. We play using Discord and Fantasygrounds. I don't know anyone locally to play with. The groups that ARE here aren't LFP, and they only play D&D anyway. I only know these guys cause I know one of the players personally from when I lived in Florida.

I wouldn't know where to find a group elsewhere. The online groups search here only does play by post, and I don't like that. It's not the same at all. The ones that aren't play by post are all...well...medieval european high fantasy. The same thing.

Mort, you are too secretive and never tell us anything! Why aren’t you normal like me or captain yesterday? Playing D&D is the devil! Fantasy is stuff and nonsense, whereas those teen books are totally accurate in every way... basically religiously correct! You should imitate Orthos and me with advanced financial planning!

So, wait, I call SpongeBob SquarePants a national treasure and you're out, but yet didn't leave when [redacted] was [redacted].

You sure about that?

I'm not trying to be a jerk, just trying to provide perspective on a rather dramatic statement. Don't get me wrong I HATE Firefly but I'm not leaving the country over it.

My guess is because it's funnier to make a bigger deal out of something as inconsequential as a cartoon being popular than it is a heavy political issue beyond the control of the average citizen.

Bleak reflection on current events is sad.
Exaggerated overreaction to pop cultural ephemera is silly.

Fair enough, I guess it came out sounding stronger than it did in my head.

My apologies Orthos, just ignore that.

This has been another episode of "Scint explains jokes to death." Join us again next week when she overanalyzes just why that chicken is crossing the road.

*Hands Scint a nearby octopus to wear*

Look, you'll just get more sick like that!

Considering Freehold just called me Ultros (not inappropriately, Orthos/Orthros is apparently a legit alternate translation for his name) are you telling her to skin me and wear me like a suit or...?
...this is probably the most awkward way to bring up the fact that we're a couple.

I suspected for some time but usually for this sort of thing I won't be the first person to call out since being wrong could get very awkward.

So far, being on vacation seems mostly pointless and weird.

Yesterday, I balanced the books, worked on the 30-day budget, cleaned out the stopped tub drain, scrubbed every inch of the bathroom, did all the floors, beat the rugs outside in the yard, took out the trash, cleaned the house, and made dinner for the in-laws, then stayed up late cleaning after WW and the kids crashed.
Today, I repaired the wonky kitchen cabinet door, baked two dozen muffins for the monthly breakfast that my church serves at the shelter, dropped by the church to stash them in the freezer until they're needed on the 30th, did a bunch of laundry, and set up the mail hold with the postal service.
And I feel so effing depressed I just want to crawl into a hole and cry.
For absolutely no reason whatsoever.
I feel completely useless.
(When I'm depressed, I alternate between staring at the wall and frenzy of purposeful activity to prove I'm not actually a waste of carbon. Neither helps.)

I think you should try to watch something you like to distract yourself from your funk.

I called a PBP hiatus for the stuff I'm GMing. Holiday madness is driving me crazy since I need to cover for a colleague and our company is currently in a project phase. Family commitments all over the place(need to transfer the line to another service provider) and things I need done as well(like new specs and a haircut), as well as extra hours into exercise in an attempt to lose weight. I've been running on 5-6 h of sleep per day this whole week and it's driving me up the wall.

I need 7-8h sleep to function properly.

On the bright side I managed to run 5 km non stop this morning though I didn't beat my personal record. I think I need to set my own pace and not try not to chase after others for long runs.

Are you saying the midwest has some weird hang up with only wanting to play D&D type RPGs like in general? That is so odd. Back in the I wanna say 90's to early 2000s our area had a big World of darkness following until white wolf went under. Especially the LARP. Heck its all together possible some people may still do that.

Oh it's not just that it's almost exclusively D&D (I have yet to meet someone that plays Pathfinder that I didn't introduce them to it) but that it's almost exclusively high fantasy as VE called it. God forbid you would want to play Iron Gods and want a laser gun, and it gets worse, not only are laser guns NOT ALLOWED (yes, they always use all caps to underscore it) but I have yet to meet a Pathfinder group that would even allow Alchemists, or even f!$!ing pirates ("I don't know, that doesn't sound like it's very Tolkien" an actual quote from three different people I tried to recruit for Skull and Shackles)

This isn't new, I quit playing D&D nearly thirty years ago because of b*~~!+~# like that, and they've only gotten more obnoxious about it.

I'm sure there's weird cultural hangups people have where you live that annoy you, that's what this is.

The Midwest suffers from a serious case of rose colored vision ("Why, back in the day, you could get a soda at the Piggly Wiggly for a nickel! And if it didn't work old man Zimmerman would give your nickel back!").

But Mort is super secretive?

I'm also kind of curious as to how I'm normal exactly, because around here, I'm definitely not the norm, and frankly it's a little scary to think I'd be considered normal in Florida.

Edit: Also I'm not trying to be critical of Tacticslion, I just find it interesting as Mort is one of the more open members of FaWtL... But then, I just realize, that's probably part of the joke...
