Okay, spoiler alert, grilled vegetable marinara was *good*.
I have this massive round galvanized steel pan that I got for seven bucks from the hardware store. It's about a foot and a half in diameter and about 4" deep. Normally, it's the pan I use for kneading and proofing bread dough. (It's big enough to make two loaves of pumpernickel at a time.)
I chopped up a fennel bulb, an eggplant, two zucchini, two portabella mushroom caps, and a handful of sweet gypsy peppers. I threw them all in the pan, tossed them with some olive oil and a little salt, and put the whole thing on the grill, and just kept stirring it every now and then, then added some garlic a cup each of diced celery, carrot, and onion. When it was all starting to cook just about right, I threw in some wine and crushed tomatoes, then some herbs, and just kept stirring.
The pan was so big that I had to make the focaccia in the oven instead of on the grill. That was a bummer.

I never expected to see so much...Redneckery in the north. I thought that was a southern thing. I mean, I've seen more big trucks in the last two months than I probably did the year before it.
Also seeing a lot of Camo-As-Fashion. And from people you KNOW never hunt. Like soccer moms and hipsters. Skinny jeans and a white jacket with branches and s~@@ on it is just...weird. And the other day I saw this really really old guy wearing what looked like brand new BDUs kinda wandering aimlessly. I don't know how else to describe it.
There's a shop down the road selling a disruptive pattern booty short and crop-top combo, should you be worried about your backside and chest parts' visibility to enemy aircraft. They also do camo velour onesies.

The rains came last night. This morning? The reading was 1/12.
Hallelujah! First rain in over 200 days!

So...
Yesterday went as well as one can imagine. Apparently I made the two young Navy junior officers cry behind me while they were trying to remain at attention and stoic on either side of my fathers coffin. And more importantly, I didn't have any arguments from anybody in my family over what I said about my father. In fact, I got nothing but praise and support from them.
My parents haven't been married since 1975, but my mom's sister, brother, and brother-in-law came to his funeral anyway.
I'm doing ok. Might be after Thanksgiving before I start posting with my usual regularity again, but I'm still reading.

Aha. Is there a different browser you can use? Or type in the adress of the authentication page by hand?

I swear, there is nothing like the first rain of the season to make you lose all faith in humanity.
Every news outlet: Watch out! It's the first rain of the season! The roads will be extra-slippery!
Every family member: Watch out! It's the first rain of the season! The roads will be extra-slippery!
Most bosses and co-workers: Watch out! It's the first rain of the season! The roads will be extra-slippery!
So yeah, I drove to the hardware store to pick some stuff up and on my way home saw a huge spinout on the freeway that had already been cleared to the side of the road. But a quick check on Google Maps reveals half a dozen crashes along the major freeways alone, much less surface streets.
*SIGH*. People refuse to learn.

I think more than any pop psychology quiz, this tells you a lot about my personality: I just got back from the last of my shopping for Thanksgiving, and not only are my fridge, freezer, and cabinets overfull to bursting, but the total cost was fairly hefty, even by our standards, at somewhere in the neighborhood of $300.
As I opened the first bag to start unpacking, the phone rang. Apparently, Thanksgiving in all likelihood will be canceled due to rain. (Our visitors don't like freeway driving or crossing bridges under the best of circumstances, and doing it in low visibility on slippery roads with incompetent other drivers is beyond their comfort zone. And I immediately offered to bring all the stuff to their house and cook, but they weren't really feeling up to a home invasion, either.)
And it just doesn't bother me. I'd not even mildly annoyed. It's just, "Wow! I guess I won't have to cook for a couple of weeks! Now, what will spoil first, how do I make sure it gets eaten instead, and how do I make that much turkey stay interesting for as long as it will last?"
And that's really how I live: Life will punch you in the face. It seems to take a perverse joy in doing so. But being bitter about it or complaining doesn't accomplish anything. It's all about, "Oh, well. Can't do that any more. So... what can I do next?"
I am a very mellow guy.
EDIT: OK, I lie. Complaining can be extremely entertaining. But I certainly don't expect it to accomplish anything, and I don't dwell on things that go wrong...

Yay! Done with work for the week, unless it snows.
Our Thanksgiving plans are to go to New Glarus for lunch with the General's parents and then back to Madison.
After that, to celebrate not having to work and eager to test my reflexes, we're going shopping. But we have no plan, not hunting for anything in particular, and will walk there.
I also won't walk in the store and immediately grab the first worker I can strangle and demand to know where the leap frog aisle is, or that they save a Switch, just for me.

And here I thought that the sheer number of crashes this morning was going to be the stupidest driving I saw all day:
Imagine the entrance to the Costco parking lot as a "T", where drivers enter on the right, drive to the left, and can turn left down the foot of the T for parking. As is typical in a parking lot, the handicapped spaces are right there, closest to the store, so to get a handicapped spot you turn left down the foot of the T, then immediately left into a parking space.
So, a handicapped driver took the first left down the foot of the T, but was blocked by a driver coming up, so stopped. The driver immediately behind the handicapped driver was tailgating something awful, and stopped behind the handicapped driver. Neither of them had pulled forward enough so, you guessed it, they blocked the exiting driver from getting out. So the handicapped driver wouldn't move because his space was blocked. By a guy who couldn't move because there was a car in front of him. Who couldn't move because the handicapped driver was in the way.
3 cars. Total gridlock. It took me 65 seconds to walk the length of the parking lot and into the store. In that time, none of them had moved. None of them had honked. All three of them were just sitting still, signaling their intentions, waiting for one of the other 2 cars to move.
I named it the "triumvirate of idiocy".

Impus Major, Waxing Philosophical about his own Mortality:
Hey! "Contains giblets!" I want that on my coffin, too!
Can we pay my hearse driver to drive really slowly so that I'm late to my own funeral?
If I will be on time to my own funeral, it will be clear sign that mortician mixed up the urns.

Impus Major's garage is almost complete! I just have to build in the back wall! On the other hand, another day, another opened electrical box, another discovery of electrical tape holding everything together. WTF, people? Just, WTF?!?!?
Things like these are like accidents waiting to happen. Only after something bad happens do people actually start paying attention to safety.

The Fort Worth Zoo is *amazing*. Really beautiful, big enclosures. Waterfalls *everywhere*. Sort of like the San Diego park, but on a smaller scale.
And Hermione and Val got to feed lettuce to the giraffes.
And watch hippos swim from underwater.
Now we just have to wait for another Wednesday that we're off school.

I've tried two other browsers and neither of them work. I know the login url and have tried it repeatedly, yet it doesn't work. Still able to connect to every other wifi I've tried, and Ubuntu connects to this one immediately. So, I have no idea.

Its very powerful and personal Vany. I do hope you can keep up you're spirits to deliver the eulogy, if just as an act of remembrance for you're father.
If you do need some encouragement or just someone to talk to, I'm sure most of us here are willing to listen and help out as best we can.

Hm. I seem to be gaining weight from laying in bed depressed. Which seems to make me more depressed. Which in turn makes it more mentally difficult to counter the weight gain...which itself makes it more physically difficult. And of course depression leads to overeating, because God f#!&ing forbid I get to be the starve myself depression reaction type. No, I the comfort food type. F#$~ing bullshit ass spiral.
This may be the biggest I've been in almost 15 years. I don't know. I've been too ashamed to actually weigh myself, but a lot of my clothes are getting tight. A lot.

I just organized a nice office Thanksgiving party with the help of colleagues. One of the upper management complimented me on the choice of food =D
Again what do you expect when you send the local greedy guts to go get lunch ;)
I can say I personally tried every single type of classic wing from wingstop(the place I got wings for the office party) before and no matter what the Italians say about Hawaiian pizza... You can never go wrong with that^^

Greek-Canadian Sam Panopoulos claimed that he created the first Hawaiian pizza at the Satellite Restaurant in Chatham, Ontario, Canada in 1962. Inspired in part by his experience preparing Chinese dishes which commonly mix sweet and savoury flavours, Panopoulos experimented with adding pineapple, ham, bacon and other toppings which were not initially very popular. The addition of pineapple to the traditional mix of tomato sauce and cheese, sometimes with ham or sometimes with bacon, soon became popular locally and eventually became a staple offering of pizzerias around the world.
