Captain ? wrote:In the Pathfinder CRB one of the suggested names for a male elf is Zordlon.
Which only opens up the question, how would you make Zordlon, the elf.
In Colorado, I hiked a trail dedicated to the pioneer Zebulon.
Which begs the question "When did Zebulon go out of style as a name?"
You obviously don't know many Mormons.

When "Better than Ezra" became a band name but "Better than Zebulon" did not.
Although judging by the proliferation of neckbeards among the lumbersexual/hipster crossover contingent...

Lynora - get well soon.
You see, I told you guys earlier my colleague was on maternity leave. So I got part of her work which over the past few days manifested as a whole lot of accounts that had to be done up in a hurry.
I got my paws into it, it got done, but unfortunately the Maths ate my brains up, so I couldn't post.
Look, I can do Maths, OK? It's just I don't like to do it, though I must admit there's a certain perverse satisfaction when you get the sheet to balance right.

Wait, is Pike's Peak named after Zebulon Pike?
I always just assumed it was Christopher.
I think you're a couple centuries too early for us to be naming things after him :p

Killed the improbable drive in improbable island. Also went on a massive shopping spree with my ex boss to the Singapore Expo Food Fair and am now rolling home with instant coffee and gruyere cheese in my bag.

In what should be a great surprise to no one given my appallingly low constitution score, I have a cold. I knew something wasn't right last night when I couldn't stop sneezing and ended up almost crying because I couldn't make my yarn winder work right. It's not a complicated piece of equipment. Also it has developed a squeak. This is not cool. I'm trying to remember where I hid my sewing machine oil as I don't have any wd40 on hand. I used up my last can in a futile attempt to get the closet doors to stop squeaking. It's never gonna happen. They're old metal doors. There's just too much rust. Anyhow, back on topic, which is not easy when I'm sick as I'm even more prone to weird digressions, this morning it had blossomed into a full on cold. So I am miserable. I should be home in bed watching Netflix. Instead I am here in a crowded room full of children because kidlet has jujitsu practice. Ugh.
puts lynora back into bacta tank

Easter is on April Fools Day, I wouldn't bet on seeing grass.
Unless you live in Colorado, or Washington, or California, and possibly Delaware.
It doesn't have to be living. I just want there to not be so much snow on the ground. Preferably there won't be any, but I'm not holding my breath.
EDIT: ...and I realized I missed the joke about 2 seconds after clicking submit. I can see that type of grass pretty much whenever I want.

Jokes aside, our gardener showed up on Wednesday all excited because apparently everything was perfect for fertilizing the lawn, and he HAD to do it that day!
Y'know, when your gardener shows up on a random day and says, "I MUST fertilize your lawn! NOW!!!!", then I figure as long as he's actually carrying some kind of bag with him, I ought to let him.

*SIGH*. Kids and life lessons.
I think I wrote last year how irritated I was that I'd been giving the Impii money for years to buy food at Disneyland, and they never did. So Impus Major finally had his friend with him and his friend helped himself to a $60 new jacket on my dime. They both got an earful for that.
So yesterday Impus Minor went to Target with a bunch of his friends. He offered to pick up some groceries for me. I gave him a list. He asked, "Is it OK if I get something for myself?" I said, "Sure."
And he spent $5 on food for himself, and one of his friends got herself a $15 pack of Pokemon cards on my dime.
I mean, seriously, WTF? When did people stop teaching kids that it's NOT OK to spend other people's money?

Well, (a) most of these kids' parents were probably brought up in the "greed is good" 1980's, grandparents were Boomers, so "Gimme Gimme" more or less becomes the mantra, and (b) you've taught your son that being ridiculously generous with your friends is what you do.
Because most kids are not like Impus Major; they'd be more likely to blow the $60 on a jacket for *themselves* instead of eating, because you gave them the money to spend, so they're gonna spend it all.

I dont see the problem. Was this money supposed to be spent on food exclusively? Or did he disappear with your debit card and then come back with a new jacket? I don't understand.
It's the old "go to the store and buy milk" thing. Explicit and implicit authority.
Parent gives kid money, tells kid to go to the store and buy milk. If kid comes back with milk + candy bar, kid done wrong and is probably getting in trouble.

NobodysHome: OK, Impus Major. I always give you money for food. You never buy food and then you come back to the hotel complaining about being hungry. Here is money. Buy food for yourself! Impus Friend, make sure he buys food! Impus Major, feed Impus Friend as well as yourself!
...time passes...Impus Friend: Look at this cool jacket I bought with the money you gave Impus Major!

The subtlety (as I know you know) is that I spend *MY OWN* money on my friends! NEVER somebody else's!

Not quite. Kid comes back with milk + candy bar and $20 short.
"Where'd the $20 go?""Oh, my friend wanted a pack of pokemon cards and saw that I had money, so asked me to buy them for her."
My kids aren't even buying stuff for themselves. They're buying expensive crap for other kids!

While I agree with your point entirely.
I can kind of see where the kids might be coming from. They have gotten the money and permission to spend, so it looks more like not considering the entire context of why the money was given to them in the first place. Though its hard for me to say much, as I don't know your kid that well, but it really sounds like he's simple taking a permission to use the money, interpreting it as widely as possible and applying it in a "unintended" way.Hopefully it hasn't anything to do with his "friends" exploiting him for some easy cash.

OMG! Lightsabers! So shinny!
You can learn to fight with them as well!
I did consider but I'm really clumsy and not coordinated. I don't want to embarrass myself in public, you know.
Oh. My lightsaber would be sky blue.

My parents just gave me pocket money, up to me how I spent it. Of course, the answer is FOOD. FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD!
I wouldn't spend grocery money on any other items.
Anyway NH - Hi needs to reply to me regarding if he wants to arrange a visit to the local pathfinder lodge - because if he does - I need to find a day where they game. I've been rather out of touch with my local lodge ever since I left PFS.
