Stay cool Arizona FaWtL Folks, I hear it's f++~ing hot down there.
Though, do tell if it gets above 120.

I got used to and yes, it is a great game, though I would add some more option on the development and economic side, and revamped some parts of the interface.
Once I reached basic understanding of battle controls (left click target, right click move) and some decent designs the game become much better... Setting camera on an enemy ship and watch as they wriggle when a barrage of AM torpedoes and cutting beams converge on them is fun.
The game is terribly unhelpful at sides. I got information that I can start a special project. I wouldn't know what that means if I hadn't seen earlier special projects tabs in the corner research screen... The catch? I went there, selected the only available project (nine-tailed incentive I think) and that's it... I have no idea what does that do, where does it apply, nothing. It's just there, costing me 50 (or maybe 500) thousands per turn (a tiny sliver of my finances now), without telling me what it actually do. And googling "sword of the stars special projects" showed... Nothing useful. It might have been written down on old, no longer working SotS wiki. On the new one it is an empty page...
I have The Pit too and it's fun game... With much level of user-friendliness than SotS despite being a murderous Rogue-like dungeon crawler!
Also, I love Liir. How could one not love tentacled dolphins?!
Every game you play, the tech tree is somewhat random. When you research a tech, you have a % chance to get the next tech in the tree. Your percentage varies depending on which race you're playing, just like your type of FTL drive. A special project is usually when you find a tech you didn't get access to, from the wreckage of an enemy ship. It will eventually unlock but, yes, no information on when is given. Kinda like how you can never be sure if a normal tech is going to come in over or under budget.
It was a sad day when the old rorschach SotS wiki went down, but the new one has the...
Google Images identified the linked picture as (best guess) "grass".
Quasi-random technology is fun. Racial technologies and drives are fun. Universe lore is a lot of fun, but the game provides almost none of it, requiring looking into wiki. The Pit is much better when it comes to providing game lore.
Still, I can read the lore on wiki while winning the battle with overwhelming force.
All the races are quite interesting when one starts to read about them.

Finally got rid of those pesky humans... They must have evolved from that vermin of their planet... Rats? For every planet I cleansed of them two more were colonized, though they could not sustain the rate of building new colony ships on newly colonized and recolonized worlds so I was finally able to stamp them out.
Ohhh we Elerian's LOVE when the humans colonize space. We love when you ALL do. We just show up at your events and you are EAGER to sign up as new members of our empire. Just one look at us and you can't wait to join up.

Man, that was a great... something last night, though I was rooting for the Splash Brothers, the Cavs clearly needed this one more, and Curry took a couple of bad shots at the end. Though in fairness to Curry that was a fast last few minutes of the game, even I was surprised when it was suddenly a minute or so left.
Still, big props to the Cavs (and especially Cleveland) they earned it. :-)

Tonight ought to be out-and-out entertaining. The kids begged, pleaded, and finally offered me birthday rerolls to get me to GM tonight. (If it's your birthday, you get 3 rerolls -- INCLUDING forcing others to reroll! Impus Major prevented a lich from getting away by making it reroll its Concentration check in our most epic Birthday Reroll moment yet).
The question is, if the GM gets 3 birthday rerolls, are the kids going to actually DO anything tonight, or will they just cower in camp, too terrified to take any actions for fear of hearing the dread, "Birthday reroll!" from behind the screen...

Well, I had my voice back for a little while, but it's already starting to go again. I sound all gravelly and squeaky at the same time, like Chewbacca just inhaled a bunch of helium. Summer colds....blech.
The kidlet is enjoying the beginning of his summer vacation at least. For this week we've given him unlimited screen time and no set wake up time. So kid heaven. But he likes routine, so by next week he'll actually be glad of the list of chores and things to do before he can have screen time no matter how much he'll grumble for the first couple of days. :)
Hmm. I might need to come up with a new nickname for him. He'll be thirteen in a couple of weeks and it seems weird to call him a kidlet at that age. On the other hand, habit is a tough thing to break. So I may just keep things how they are. I mean really, I'll probably still be calling him 'baby doll' and 'sweet pea' when he's thirty, let alone thirteen, so he might as well get used to it. Being embarrassing is part of the parental job description. ;P

Not a bad birthday, all in all.
Up at 5:00 am, did all my foraging for Rift (Drejk can attest that I'm up EVERY morning between 5 and 6 foraging my brains out), made coffee, woke NobodysWife, saw her out the door, and showed Impus Major how to change a car tire.
Then I spent most of the rest of the morning tidying the house, doing dishes, catching up on the budget, and doing other very non-exciting stuff. But getting it all out of the way on a Monday felt GOOD.
Unfortunately, around 12:30 pm the nonsense started. Impus Minor needs a new swim shirt but didn't want to come with me to Target, so went there, learned that they don't carry adult-sized men's swim shirts (apparently kids sunburn, but adults don't), got home, and both kids started harassing me to make food for them, take care of other stuff for them, and otherwise lots of annoying, "Even though it's your birthday I want you to do xxx for me."
So I spent around 90 minutes moving Impus Major's bed into the (unfinished) garage, as he's asked about it twice now.
Then a quick nap, and back to lazing around the house and playing lots and lots of Puzzles & Dragons on an iPad. Then more cleaning, because I had to pull a bunch of stuff out of the garage to make room for Impus Major's bed.
And now, Serpent's Skull with the kids!

I made chicken nuggets, except made with real chicken, and flavor, now I'm walking the dog. Nothing much happened, watered the garden, and got to yell obscenities at the molester when he tried to say hi to me, that was fun. :-)
