oh man, I am so sorry. How old was your hard drive?

You know... figuring that out is turning out harder to answer than I thought it would be. :/

EDIT 2: three years. The warrenty expired this last Feb.

EDIT: and no matter what Megatokyo tries to tell me, doing tech stuff named is NOT what I'm doing *re-dresses*

Thank you. I hooooooooooope most of it is backed up on an external drive, but... I'm unsure how recently we backed up our stuff.

Also, I'm pretty sure we lost all of my X-Com data. And so the aliens won due to minor equipment failure. :/

I am experiencing world of agony at the moment. Had a bunch of dental work done. Fillings mostly, but what really hurts is the areas around my mouth where they propped my mouth open. Ugh. So much pain. And they weren't able to finish all of it because they had extra work to do on some of my teeth that cracked. Which can apparently happen if you grind your teeth in your sleep. Upshot is I need a better bite guard. And another dentist visit. :(

So, after an overnight in the hospital and plenty more tests, I'm out and about again. We've got a storm warning atm, very wet, windy, and cold.... Maybe if I ask nicely, they'll let me back in til it passes... :P

Medical Diagnosis:
So, apparently, my right lung partially collapsed. This is, they tell me, the good news, because it means it's not a clot, which would have been much worse. So that's good? Good enough that they didn't feel the need to hold me any longer, so that's gotta mean something. There was also some scarring from the last infection I got, so they gave me two antibiotics and advised me to rotate a few painkillers. And to take it easy, a medical recommendation I am more than happy to comply with. :D Breathing still hurts a little, but it is down to a little, as opposed to a lot. :P

Also, apologies for putting bad vibes on FaWtL. It was nice to have the company though. :S

Sorry I wasn't allowed a phone yesterday. I guess the security guys cover all bases. I am just a manager for a place that does security work. Although my job isn't normally dangerous. I just oversee the money counters during their shift. But managers can fill in where they want if people call in. So I got to play like I was Shepard on some really safe mission behind layers of protection. I of course didn't tell the guys I was thinking of a computer game, let them think I am just as bad ass as they are. And I am kind of bad ass... I am required to be armed at all times and I train on my weapon regularly. And I know martial arts... though I am not a black belt by anyone's imagination. I am more the dirty tricks sort of martial artist...

Ugggggggggggggggggg! I know that feeling all too well! (Broken jaw but didn't know it/ week later jaw gets stuck open/Wired the next day/surgery and arch bars a week later /drinking meals for 8 weeks.)

Here is what you do - Ask your dentist (maybe oral surgeon?) or go online for one of those rubber things you bite down on. I don't know the official name, but it is basically like a 1 inch long section of mouthguard, except with more space between the top and bottom, so when you bite down on it, your mouth is still wide open. It works because the muscles that close your jaw are MUCH stronger then those that open your jaw. So instead of holding your mouth open the whole time, you are holding it closed on the rubber bit. I've had more then one tooth extraction (45+ minutes) with no jaw pain whatsoever!

If you can pop a painkiller or two before the dentist, I find that helps a lot as well. As with all drugs, know how they affect you personally, and don't overdo it.

I know, right? Even the antibiotics they sent me off with seemed like a bit of a "We've gotta cover ourselves in case something does go wrong, so here's some medicine." :P Still, I'm feeling a lot better as the day goes on, so something must be going right. :)

The hell, are you an elf or something?

LOL!

I am 5'4&1/2", and,... let's just call it '185lbs' :)
I fluctuate between 180 (When I feel great) and 190 (When I do not.)

My Dr and I agree that I need to lose weight. (I have 'borderline' health issues that would presumably vanish if I weighed less.)

What we disagree on is the AMOUNT. I would be happy with 10, and ecstatic with 20 or 25lbs. HE tells me I need to lose 50.

WTF?!? I have not weighed 135 lbs in DECADES. (Yes, I'm that old. Let's just call it pre-2 wives and 4 kids ago!) :)

EDIT- I feel like told this story before. :/

Try the diet I was put on today: no eggs, dairy, beef, wheat, barley, oats, corn, sugar (of any kind), potatoes, beans, coffee, alcohol or fruit. Basically chicken/turkey/fish, vegetables, rice, coconut water/milk, tea.

Man, swell up after a meal one time and the medical professionals hit the damned panic button. I must say, though, tonight's snack of rice crackers and dinner of salmon, broccoli, rice, and celery stuffed with sunflower butter wasn't too damned shabby. And now I'm drinking blueberry mojito tea with a touch of Stevia. So far, so good!

Rags, just wanted to let you know that since Wednesday (3 days, effectively), I have lost half of your "happy" goal.

Finished lunch a few minutes ago - vegetables, hummus, and a couple of Nut-Thins (they are wonderful). My dog ate the veggies and hummus with me. He's a disgrace for a carnivore.

Thursday Night Game:
Last session of a multiple year long campaign tonight, very mixed feelings about that. GM is planning a hiatus on gaming afterwards, so that'll most likely mean no tabletops for a while. Hopefully we'll manage to keep in touch, the group has a bad habit of losing people whenever they can't attend the games anymore. If there's no game at all... well, I'll keep making the effort anyhow. Maybe replace it with a boardgame night or something.

The game is expected to end with the Great Destroyer showing up and ending all of existence. The GM has said that he looks forward to being surprised by us. Problem being, we've got nothing. The Great Destroyer is the Creator of all existence, and also the GM, and we haven't been able to come up with any sort of plan, in game or out. I fear it will all end with not a bang, but a whisper. Hopefully one of the other players has been holding back, because it would be a sad ending for such an epic, long lived campaign.

The End Of The World As We Knew It:
So, as expected, the Thursday Night Game (codenamed the Forbidden Game) finally came to a close, two weeks after the expected end, and on a Wednesday. It was a couple of weeks ago now, I meant to give the update, but things have been busy.

Anywho, the final session was an interesting one. It started with the Great Old Ones making a move for control of Earth, as we had been pissing them off a bit too much. I think I mentioned the BRCK before, the game's equivalent of the SCP Foundation, who were controlled by 4th dimensional beings, who it turned out were actually the Great Old Ones. Anyways, they started to activate monstrous human-4th dimensional being hybrids, who could mess with the nature of reality, to make the world unlivable for humanity. We knew of one, and had him locked in a sarcophagus, but it turns out there were dozens.

So, our resident Mage pulled out the trick he had been saving for the Great Destroyer/Creator God. He constructed a huge tower, with seventy other mages he had created in secret and trained to help him when the time arose. He had us all join him for support and then killed the Werewolf/Goddess of Rebirth (one of the PC's). See, there's an aspect to God(esse)s in the game, whereby if one dies, it becomes its opposite. So by killing the Goddess of Rebirth, she became the God of Endings. Seeing as he knew when and where he'd appear, having been instrumental to his creation, he had already prepared the God Press to go off as soon as he did so.

So, way back, at least a year ago, we took stock of the weapons on Atlantis. We found we had two God killing weapons. The Bell Which Tolls, which kills anything within hearing range from where it is rung, and the God Press. It was being used by a vineyard. It presses Gods, distilling them to their core essence, which then can be used for anything. This also ends their cycle of reversal. They originally used it to distill the God of Parties to create a wine, hence why it was in a vineyard. Nasty piece of work that.

Continuing on, wielding the funnelled power of seventy mages, and infused with the very essence of Endings, he killed one of the hybrids with a snap of his fingers. He then showed the image of him doing that to the others, and told them to stand down. The interesting turn of events was that they actually all thought they were unique, the only one of their kind, the prized child of the 4th dimensional beings. When they realised there were dozens of them, they actually freaked out. Capitalising on this, our suave and currently uber powerful Mage convinced them to return to the 4th dimension, kill their "parents", and never return, which they agreed to. Tied that particular loose end quite nicely, really.

At which point, God arrived. Wasting no time, our Mage funnelled every ounce of power, throwing everything he had, even his life, at the Creator, in an attempt to End him. After a rather descriptive demolition of the Creator's form, and the tower behind him, and a weird absence in reality behind that, we heard a voice in our heads saying "Was that satisfactory?" Needless to say, as the Mage had suspected, brute force couldn't win this fight.

And so began the battle of wits. Which is to say, we talked to him. He explained that the world was his thoughts, and while humanity seemed to have a strange independance from him, existence still required him to think to continue. And he very much wanted to stop thinking. He said "If you can come up with a way where the earth continues, but does not require me, I would be fine with leaving you to your devices. But the solution must come from you." After a bit of back and forth, the Mage eventually began to just narrate. And then we (the other players, not the GM) started adding to it. And then there was no Creator, and the world kept turning.

So the Creator was, in fact, a metaphor for the GM, and the ending desired was us taking over GM'ing. Which, considering he then declared a hiatus on running any further games, we think might be a hint. :P Still, it made for an entertaining session and, as asked earlier, a satisfactory ending to a great campaign. :)

My mom broke her knee. She is happy they do not have to do surgery (she is the queen of finding silver linings). This is only a year after she broke her wrist, for which they did have to operate.

She needs to stop... doing something. I don't know. She tripped and fell in the church parking lot - not exactly a hazardous activity.

Being the supportive son I am, I offered, "Didn't the doctor tell you you were going to need a knee replacement in 10 years anyway? It's not like they need it in one piece."
