I love avatar changes. Sometimes you have to shake things up...sorta...actually I'm just back to Shelyn, but a different pose than the last time I had a Shelyn avvy. :)

You were actually the first person I thought of when I saw that particular avatar, hehe. Not surprised at all to see you snatch it immediately =)

It's so me. ^.^

And you're looking quite dashing yourself there. I like your choice for a new avvy. :)

And now that finals are over I may actually post here once in a while again. :)

I've been using the same avatar since 2006.

Thanks =D There were no new Kobold avatars or the much-desired Keketar Protean (no Proteans at all, still!) so I started looking around for other options. No idea who this gunslinger girl is supposed to be, but I liked pretty much everything about her, so new avatar she became =)

I don't even have WORDS... it breaks my little Erisian heart. Change is good, man! Change is Good!

But this Protectar is so fetching!

Hehe

I do recall seeing a few cool looking Aasimar in the mix though, for what it's worth =)

Tempter!

Yeeessssss.

Silver Crusade

I was deceived! I see 1 male aasimar avatar, and he's weird and green.

They had a monkey on an orc pirate's shoulder, but no closeups. Cartoon simian it is!

(But I reserve the right to go back to angry!)

A lots of new people on the FaWtL!

Wait, no, that's just avatar changing season...

Heh.

I haven't changed mine!

It happens. Not everyone can stick with the same avatar forever. :)

Went to the grocery store today and got stuff to make kidlet's favorite foods since his dad is out of town this week...and then he had to come home from school early because he had the stomach flu. Now I want to make dinner....but it seems cruel because I'd end up eating his favorite foods right in front of him. :/
He was home sick from school all last week too. Poor kid can't catch a break.

So in celebration of new avatar day - and to identify myself a little better with my new face, AND because I've been lazy about getting it done since the requisite Kingmaker sessions finished - another couple of my Dark Song. A couple of primarily-ranged combatants, one a mobile skirmisher and ranged volleyer in the vein of a Manticore, the other a tactical psionics blaster and area-controller with the uncanny ability to outright ignore the silence that vexes the rest of the Song so well.

Songspawn, Andante:
Songspawn, Andante (Walker)

This dog-sized creature resembles a bizarre amalgam of lizard, porcupine, and pony. Its wide, reptilian eyes fill most of its head, and a foot-long elephantine trunk ends not in nostrils but a gnashing mouth. Its quills wave and twitch as if billowed by a nonexistent breeze, creating a strange wind-chime melody, and its crocodilian tail sweeps back and forth as it strides rapidly on sharp hooves, clopping an otherwordly beat.

TACTICS
Andante prefer to fight at range, keeping on the move and launching quills at targets to soften them up, then moving in on crippled or unconscious foes to feast. If cornered they kick and bite until a gap opens that they can spring through. Andante are used to being able to outrun or keep pace with nearly any creature due to their superior speed, and only activate their boost of speed to escape if near death or to reach a particularly speedy foe, especially if their prey attempts to flee.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Bonus Feat (Ex)
An andante gains Run as a bonus feat.

Burst of Speed (Ex) Once every 5 rounds, an andante can move five times its normal speed (250 feet) when it makes a charge.

Quills (Ex) With a snap of its tail, an andante can loose a volley of four quills as a standard action (make an attack roll for each quill). This attack has a range of 80 feet with no range increment. All targets must be within 30 feet of each other. The creature can launch only 40 quills in any 24-hour period.

Silence Aversion (Ex) Dark Song cannot enter silence effects. If the spell is cast with one inside its range, the andante is shunted to the nearest square outside the border, and is pushed away from its edge as if bull rushed (no CMB check necessary) if the AoE attempts to move into or through its space.

If silence or a similar spell or effect is cast on an andante and it fails its Will save, the spell deals 1 point of untyped damage per caster level to the creature before ending completely.

Song (Ex) Dark Song are composed of living sound. They are immune to all sound-based effects and sonic damage. If a Songspawn takes sonic damage, it forgoes any saving throw and is healed by 1 hit point for every 2 points of damage the attack would have dealt as if it had failed its saving throw. It is immune to any effects caused by a sonic effect, such as deafening. Dark Song use their Constitution rather than their Wisdom for Perception checks, and gain a bonus on Perception equal to half their hit dice. They are immune to mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects) and Wisdom damage or drain.

Vibrato (Su) An andante is composed of living sound. It deals an additional 2d4 points of sonic damage with its natural weapons, determined by its Hit Dice: andante advanced to 11 HD deal 3d4 points of sonic damage, and those advanced to 16 HD or beyond deal 4d4 points of sonic damage.

Songspawn, Piano:
Songspawn, Piano (Soft Serpent)

A black-and-white snake writhes and undulates through the air, coiling and winding toward you, a strange dirge echoing in its presence. As it nears, you can see its body is not truly so colored but rather covered in monochromatic fur, and its canine head and eerily mobile, batlike ears stand out over striking white reptilian eyes. It has no mouth or nostrils, simply a tapered snout without opening; however, all along the sides of its body countless tiny orifices open and close, singing a song from beyond your weirdest dreams.

  • 1/day—dispel psionics, energy cone (12d6, DC 22*)
*Includes augmentation for the piano's manifester level.

TACTICS
Pianos have no physical attacks, and rely on their psi-like abilities coupled with their sing in silence ability to harry foes from range, flying out of reach of melee attackers and using their energy wall and energy push powers to separate their attackers. Foes who prove resistant to their attacks, particularly sonic attacks, are targeted with dispel psionics in hopes of removing their protection. Warrior types who are not visibly paladins (which the pianos will sometimes attempt to ascertain via telepathic communication with the victim-to-be) are harried with ego whip in hopes of draining their Charisma easily and gaining a dissonant warrior to protect the piano. Failing this warriors are targeted with distract and compelling voice while being evaded with sidestep or continuing to fly out of range, while casters are barraged with the piano's various energy attacks. Pianos usually focus on casters and archers primarily, unless attempting to create a Dissonant ally using loss of self.

SQ otherwordly aura, sing in silence, song, sonic specialization

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Loss of Self (Ps) Any creature reduced to 0 Charisma by a piano's ego whip psi-like ability must make a DC 24 Will save or awake one round later transformed into a Dissonant creature. This creature is loyal and obedient to the Piano that created it for 24 hours, after which it is free to act on its own but is a loyal member of the Dark Song until disabled, captured, and cured.

Otherworldly Aura (Su) A piano adds its Charisma modifier as a racial bonus on all its saving throws and as a deflection bonus to its Armor Class.

Sing in Silence (Ex) Unlike most Dark Song, pianos can enter silence effects and even outright ignore them, so long as it makes a successful manifester check against the silence's DC+10. If successful, it can freely enter the spell's area, and sonic effects it creates still function within the spell's radius. It must do this every time it attempts to enter a silence after leaving, and every time it attempts to manifest a sonic effect while in, targeting a target inside, or aiming a manifestation through a silence radius; if its check fails, the piano cannot enter the area or, if already inside or targeting through, its psionic effect fails to manifest and its use is still consumed.

If silence or a similar spell or effect is cast on a piano and it fails its Will save, the spell deals 1 point of untyped damage per caster level to the piano before ending completely.

Sonic Specialization (Ex) Pianos are masters at manifesting sonic energy. They gain Favored Energy [Sonic] as a bonus feat, and in addition do not take the normal -1 per die damage penalty when manifesting a psionic power that deals sonic damage.

Got Kingmaker saturday this weekend myself. I am grappling with the realization that this ap is dm work intensive because its up to me to fill in the dark edges of the map-the book standard stuff is not enough for my group. I've already changed up the gigantic lake in the east to be thick with fey because there is a kernel of/portal to the plane of elemental water at the center of the lake that the pcs have yet to discover. I've made a minor cyclops civilization in the mountains wreathing said lake that the pcs have just annihilated by themselves in orderto make the events of the next book more believable for me as the survivors head west and link up with you know who as elements in his army/scouts. The pcs have also saved a group of petrified dwarves who were overtaken by the cockatrices that make their home there-I included a hilarious scene of a maniticore being overrun and petrified by a flock of cockatrices.I wonder if I should turn them into a swarm...

Yep, that's KM in a nutshell. The AP gives you the bare-bones basics and a story to work with, but there's a LOT left open-ended for the GM to make up, alter, fiddle with, and homebrew on their own.

At this point I'm not even using the book's statblocks anymore, thanks to my party being a good 3 (and nearing 4) levels ahead of the expected curve for this chapter. It's giving me plot skeletons to flesh out, NPCs names and personalities and basics to build from, and things like that; everything else I'm cooking up myself.

Pffft. Come back when you have your own llama.

Just calculated what the Pathfinder pdfs I still don't have costs. $500... my monthly budget for that is 500 SKr...

...and that's not counting 3-½+ years of Society Scenarios.

Stop putting out such good product, Paizo! *shakes mast*

Why would I ever want such a beast? Wretched, smelly, unclean, untrainable.... Even on the assumption that I'd ever be parted for some inexplicable reason from Donahan.

Hah hah. Yes, how crude. You can do better.

But do I have to?

yeah the power curve thing is problematic. I'm doing some research into it tomorrow.

Also I am getting some negative feedback regarding some characterization in the darklight sisterhood game. Things should improve as we get back to egorian and the pcs have bigger things to worry them. while it is a concErn, its better to patch holes than worry then larger.

Good luck!
