Idolizing Captain Kirk.
Found out that he is an utter and complete jackass.
Nothing surprizes me any more.
Humph. William Shatner nearly killed me once. That's when I stopped being a fan.
(To be fair, it wasn't deliberate. He just couldn't control the horse he was riding and nearly ran over me. The fact that he didn't even apologize convinced me he was a jerk.)
You have got to be KIDDING ME!!!!!
I met Brent Spiner at the very first convention I ever went to. The man was an ass.
Kidding that he nearly killed me? Or that he didn't apologize? Both are true, I swear! :)

Wow. I mean I knew that Shatner was, to put it politely, 'slightly full of himself', and I know that Spiner showed up at a convention in New Orleans willing to give out autographs,...if you paid $25-$40 up front, he would give one from a pre-signed stack. ;P
In contrast, I met Marina Sertis (Councillor Deana Troy) at a convention, and she was wonderful! Polite, funny, entertaining speaker, and risked missing her flight to make sure that everyone in line got an autograph.

[geekout]I have it on VERY good authority that Marina Sirtis is a WONDERFUL woman. My spanish teacher in high school was the teacher-person attached to the Science Fiction club, and she knew her personally. I never met her, but my good friend(and player in my Kingmaker game) who was also a longtime member of that same club did. She has her autograph along with a WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLE lot of other cast member's autographs in her now-dust covered album. I actually almost met Ms. Sirtis at a New York Comic Con several years ago, but I missed out on her and ended up getting an autograph from Amanda Connors instead. Ms. Connors is like..5'1" and really, really cute.[/geekout]

I was a little put off at DragonCon to hear that Michael Dorn was charging $20ish for autographs, but I wasn't sure if that was him or the con, as the whole panel was charging that.
From what I've heard Dorn's a great guy and a fairly straight shooter. Believe it or not, I've heard AWFUL things about Levar Burton that put him in the Brent Spiner category of jerk.

That's a shame, really. (WHY do they have to do that?!?) ;P
After all the work I saw Levar Burton putting into doing things for children (had a couple of shows on PBS for reading I believe) I was hoping he was in the 'cool guy' category. Ah well.
Yes, Marina Sirtis seemed truly nice when I met her (Briefly, I was in a crowd at a con.) ;)
I still remember almost her entire monologue. It had some priceless bits about Dorn, Spiner, Stewart, and 'the history of Troi's costumes'. Good stuff! :)

Michael Dorn was at a con here. He showed up spoke quickly left a gag real for everyone to watch, sneaked up to his hotel suite and disappeared from the con as fast as possible. To be fair, most of the people who were having any sort of fun were the vampire larp folks and well we were all in make up and dressed kind of well weird is the best way to say it.

Now you are just being difficult!
Come visit Houston! We will bribe you shamelessly with gaming, lots of conventions and food!

Pay to get someone's signature?
Absurd.
I've had stuff signed before, but paying to get it signed? Get over yourself.
I agree.
However, it does seem to be the 'new' way of things.
{old person rant}Pay? Top get a signature?! In MY day, we didn't pay to get no signature! The actors were so grateful to have fans they gave us the signatures and were happy to do it! {/Old person rant} ;)
Annnnd, good night FAWTL-ies!

From what I understand, Dorn is the most "ordinary guy" out of the bunch. I think he the most mystified by the success of Next Gen and his character out of the entire cast.

I never met Ms. Sirtis in person, but I've always admired her for the way she responded to the poor, sweaty, nervous fanboi who got up in the Q&A session at the con I was at to ask her, "So... ummm.... do you think you'll go back to your home planet soon?" (This was back when TNG was still in production.) She smiled very gently and said approximately, "I don't know of any plans for the show to feature Betazed as a location anytime soon, but I think it would be great fun if it did." She was very gracious and gentle in a situation where she could have used sarcasm or biting wit for laughs, and I've always thought better of her for the way she handled that situation.

Having never met/seen the man in person, but from what I've heard (including comments from Ms Sirtis) You are correct. He is purported to be a very 'gentle giant', and actually very shy.
According to Marina Sirtis, with his cast/crew he is quite the cut-up though! ;)

Well I think a lot of the had to do with the quality of acting he gave. He was an actor who could have been doing a lot better roles but eh ended up as a character that had some of the crappiest writing done for him. He pulled it off not many could have.
