Is it listed anywhere what Magic Items an animal companion, special mount or familiar can where?

Sczarni RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

I allow a creature to fit items as a player can, provided they have the requisite slot.

Horse - no rings, no hands, finding vestments/clothing tailored to him is kinda hard though
Cat - no hands, but they look silly with rings
Snake - no chest, no feet, no hands, no rings, no body, etc (think the snake from Disney Robin Hood cartoon, he had a cloak and crown...)

In 3.5 it was everything a person can have. IN pathfinder i beleive its DM's call.

What kind of critter are we talking here? A rat could probably wear one of everything, a horse is missing a few, and a snake is kind of out of luck.

Ahh.. poor sir hiss. The only sane person in that movie.

Worst case scenario: snake

Armor: suits of armor.: No problem if its custom made. Scale mail anyone? Realistically leather might be as high as it goes.

Belts: belts and girdles.: The belt can go anywhere. its nothing but waist

Body: robes and vestments: No problem, its a sock.

Chest: mantles, shirts, and vests: sock of escape, no problem.

Eyes: eyes, glasses, and goggles. It has eyes.

Feet: boots, shoes, and slippers.: as rare as a snake with legs. Not happening.

Hands: gauntlets and gloves: nope.

Head: circlets, crowns, hats, helms, and masks.: No problem. Bonus points if the snake is wearing snakeskin.

Headband: headbands and phylacteries. it has a head.

Neck: amulets, brooches, medallions, necklaces, periapts, and scarabs: Like the belt, the neck pretty much goes anywhere.

Ring (up to two): rings: no fingers, no luck.

Shield: shields: not unless its using it as a sled.

Shoulders: capes and cloaks: See sir hiss for a stylish example.

Wrist: bracelets and bracers. no wrists to swish.

Bad, horse.

Armor: suits of armor.: Barding. Exists IRL

Belts: belts and girdles. Saddle strap of strength

Body: robes and vestments Exist IRL

Chest: mantles, shirts, and vests: Exist irl. Seriously parade horses wear more layers of clothes than i do.

Eyes: eyes, glasses, and goggles: Horse blinders of true seeing?

Feet: boots, shoes, and slippers: No, but could be made as horse shoes of X.. if you wanted to. the stuff that are ALREADY horse shoes are better than what most pc's get.

Hands: gauntlets and gloves: no luck.

Head: circlets, crowns, hats, helms, and masks: no problem. Exist irl.

Headband: headbands and phylacteries.: no problem.

Neck: amulets, brooches, medallions, necklaces, periapts, and scarabs: easy as pie, slip it over it;s neck.

Ring (up to two): rings. Probably no. The hoof is technically the finger though, the dm might let you get custom made horseshoes to imbed the rings in the hooves.

Shield: shields.: no.

Shoulders: capes and cloaks. Horse blanket of protection.

Wrist: bracelets and bracers: not a problem. its a leg warmer.

Good: Bear/wolf

Armor: suits of armor: easy as pie.

Belts: belts and girdles.: no problem

Body: robes and vestments. no problem.

Chest: mantles, shirts, and vests : doggie harness of charismia.

Eyes: eyes, glasses, and goggles: might not like it, but doable.

Feet: boots, shoes, and slippers.: Custom made ididerod booties.

Hands: gauntlets and gloves: see feet.

Head: circlets, crowns, hats, helms, and masks.: no problem.

Headband: headbands and phylacteries.: easy.

Neck: amulets, brooches, medallions, necklaces, periapts, and scarabs: dog collar of natural armor.

Ring (up to two): rings. easier than people think. It can either go on a claw, or there's usually enough "finger" on a paw to slip it on. At worst you might have to peirce the webbing on a wolf's paw.. which sounds painful, but not nearly as painful as your friend taking a halberd to the head because your old ring of protection is in a shop instead of on your friend. bears have more than enough finger to put it on.

Shield: shields: Not unless its a monkey.

Shoulders: capes and cloaks: dog blanket of protection.

Wrist: bracelets and bracers. leg warmers.

Thanks, this does help. The reason I was asking is that I remember that in 3.5 or maybe one of the "Living" campaigns there was a list of what animals could where as far as cloaks, rings, headbands, etc... So I was wondering if there was a list in Pathfinder.

Living Greyhawk had a fairly contrained list. There are no official rules about it in Pathfinder. Some developers have commented on it to suggest a broad availability. GMs are on their own to decide.

I've always allowed all the same slots as a human, provided the item will either fit in it's typical design, or is made specially to fit the animal.

I can see them using an amulet.

Commonsense should be applied, eg a four legged animal could not run with two legs wearing boots of speed, however any hooved animal could wear horseshoes of speed/zephyr.

In my games I let them use no items, but as a counterpoint i'd give animal companions, pets and familiars a perception roll vs TN 15 for detect magic, dimensional anomolies and time distortions. Those with Tremorsence or Scent get +4 to the roll.

This does not mean your sheep familiar knows that the wizard on the hill is casting fireball, only that there is dangerous magic to the east.
