Combining mutagens with potions is it violating the stacking rules?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Looked around for the answer (which might be right in front of me) but can an alchemist gain the stacked benefits of a mutagen and potions?

We had a game session with the alchemist taking feral mutagen and then drank a potion of bull's strength and enlarge person. The effects if true make this class a powerhouse in melee combat.

Here's how it played out started with 18 strength, used feral mutagen that gave the player a +4 to strength and +2 to natural armor. He then drank the potions listed and came out with a three natural attacks with the following stats for Strength base 18 +4 mutagen +4 from bull's strength and +2 for enlarge person for a total strength of 28 doing 1d8+9 with the two claws and a 1d6+9 bite.

If this is correct no one can compete with him at lower levels for dealing out mass amounts of damage. Did we play this wrong?

Thanks for your help.

If effects are different bonus types, they will stack unless stated otherwise.
Alchemist DOES ´stack´ very well, because it basically invented a new bonus type (alchemy).

Different combos/classes can look better than others at certain levels, especially when you don´t care about duration/peristance/sustainability. Nobody is stopping to play Barbarians or Fighters though.

Barbarian with 18 strength wielding a greatsword rages and Power Attacks for 2d6+12 at first level, and that doesn't even require a full round action.

Yes, melee alchemists can put out lots of damage. But I think it's pretty well balanced to true melee classes, since they have lower BaB and are reliant on a limited supply of extracts for their buffs. Honestly I think bomb alchemists are much more damage machines. The 8th level alchemist in my kingmaker game puts out 5d6+10 with a single bomb, can throw two bombs per round, and gets something like 12 bombs a day.

To answer your question: Enlarge Person is a size bonus, Bull's Strength is an enhancement bonus, and mutagen is an alchemical bonus. Since they are all different types, they stack just fine.

This leads to the question of will an Alchemist's Enlarge Person extract stack with a Master Chymist's Growth Mutagen? Are they both Alchemy bonuses? If the extract won't stack will an Enlarge Person in potion form via brew potion stack with the Growth Mutagen?

They're given enlarge person through the potion, which gives them size bonuses, so it stacks.

A potion would stack too.

Alchemy bonuses are stupid.

The Master Chymists Growth Mutagen causes you to grow "as per enlarge person", and enlarge person specifically says "Multiple magical effects that increase size do not stack."

So no, Growth Mutagen and enlarge person (whether applied through an extract or a potion) would not stack.

Well, at least he's not also raging, so you can't accuse him of being a true power-gamer!

Yes. The bad guys, upon seeing this hulking ogre hunching toward them with bloodshot eyes, should go "WTF is this BS??" -- and run away for a few minutes and wait for the potions to wear off.

Then the players whine, "Hey! They're not supposed to be smart like that! They're supposed to stand there and die like the last bunch!"

Bad guy: "We're ba-a-ck! And we brought some heavy crossbows and glaives this time! And a sorceress who loves to cast Glitterdust all day long!"

(I.e., what's that alchemist's will save? I'll bet it's in the toilet.)
