I do suggest that you try to learn more of the SAGA system rules if you can. They really do have some good points to offer over standard d20.

I must admit I have heard very good things about the SAGA system. I just can’t justify purchasing another set of rules at the moment ... particularly a science fiction one. For some reason, space-based science fiction games have never taken off with the various groups I’ve played with over the years. Traveller, Phase World, Eon Trinity, Alternity (space homebrew and Star Drive setting), d20 Mecha Crusade (in space), d20 Future, Serenity (Cortex system) ... we’ve tried all of those over the years, and a game has never lasted more than 3 sessions unfortunately (if it got past character creation).

Hehe, that 'can I have a zombie avatar' was a stupid joke brought about by lack of sleep. I'll probably be picking another avatar than this one at some point, but that's not really important.

Anyway, as the character has congealed I think, mechanically, he is through his first pass and ready for inspection.

A quick list of changes/additions:

I switched STR and INT. 13 STR gives him access to some of the neat melee tricks if I decide to pick some up later. He's predispositioned to straightforward fighting and isn't an avid learner (about most things, anyway), so I think it fits better. Not being able to hold his own in a brawl also just feels wrong, heh.

I'm focusing on the tough aspect right now, picking up Toughness as a feat and Tough as Nails for my talent. The fast/gunman aspect will come later; for now all I did was grab Point Blank Shot (being able to fire accurately into melee just doesn't fit. I also fixed some BBcode errors that made it look like he had five trained skills for a sec.

For Mothman

Spoiler:
I recommend you try Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader and/or Death Watch RPG by Fantasy Flight Games

I can understand that.

I deal with that problem in my RL groups. Several of the groups have one type of fantasy that they play and are not much into trying other systems.

I would suggest that you look at things like the Star Wars games that I run and DM Barcas run (separate games but some of the players are common). Both of the games use the SAGA system.

How do we Determine Hit Points?

Nobles and Scoundrels start with 12 + Con bonus

Scouts start with 16 + Con bonus

Soldiers start with 20 + Con bonus

Looks good.

I have yet to finalise Geoffrey's equipment, but I have come-up with a background and appearance that I am happy with :-)

Appearance:
Geoffrey is a tall (6'2"), wiry male with brown hair and green eyes. Typically softly spoken around strangers, he can become quite animated and authoritative when discussing topics that he knows well or loves (Unfortunately, not always the same thing).

He typically dresses in comfortable, loose blue cotton work pants and shirts, but is never without a dusty old broad-brimmed Akubra hat, the hat-band of which is lined with crocodile teeth and snake-skin.

Deathly afraid of dying from skin cancer, Geoffrey always wears a thick layer of sunscreen whenever he goes out in the sun.

Background:

Geoffrey was born the middle child of a strong farming family on a cattle station in far Western NSW. As he grew up, he enjoyed running stock, and hunting kangaroos on weekends, but the droughts of the late 90's and early 00's hit the station hard, to the extent that after his mother died from melanoma in '03, his father decided that enough was enough, sold the property, and moved what remained of his family to Parramatta, where he bought an engraving business to make ends meet.

Pulled away from his friends and familiar territory in the final of high school, Geoffrey really did not enjoy life in the outer suburbs of Sydney, and his school results suffered as a result. However, once he turned 18, he joined the Army Reserve - and it felt like he had finally come home. He found a discipline and camaraderie that had been missing since he had left his real home, and was once again able to spend more and more time training and working outdoors.

This inspired him to apply himself, and actually do something with his life, so he enrolled in a Rescue Medicine Technician course at a TAFE college in Sydney, eventually graduating with a distinction. His father was justifiably proud of him, and gave him a special graduation gift - A special compass in a tarnish-and-water-resistant case, with a motto in Latin engraved on the inside of the flip-lid.

From there, Geoffrey went on to work with the State Emergency Service and Search & Rescue as an EMT, with a great deal of pride, and contentment.

However, that was all destroyed in the recent catastrophic floods in Queensland; Geoffrey was part of one of the teams flown in to rescue survivors, and deal with the injured. What traumatised him, however, was when a child stuck on the roof of a mostly submerged car that he was desperately trying to reach was swept away in front of him, and swallowed up by the angry flood waters.

This shook him up rather badly, and although he was able to force himself to work through his remaining rotation, once his crew was stood-down, he applied for, and was granted, some time off to recover.

Wanting to get as far away as possible from his memories, Geoffrey sought passage on an American cruise-liner that was scheduled to travel around the Carribean. Hopefully, amongst the sunlight, gently rocking waves, and island paradises, he will be able to find some kind of peace...

I'm scheduled to be sac'd by the Snowpocalypse that is overtaking the North East of N.A. tonight and tomorrow. I'll get an OOC thread started then while I drink cocoa and avoid the outdoors.

OOC thread is now open.

Smerg's Zombie Apocalypse

Game Thread is now open!

Smerg's Zombie Apocalypse

We are just starting the opening scene.

Come take a look and add in a character.

I would like to find two more players if possible.

Check out the game thread.

Smerg, if you give me until the end of the weekend, I'll put something together.

I love the Star Wars rules, and have a couple different ideas.

A retired boxing champ, who has lost all his money through bad investments, etc., who was hired to be on the ship as a "glad hander" meeting and greeting the crowd at a casino on the boat, perhaps. Either that or a basic computer/technology nerd, on vacation, bit I haven't put together much of a backstory on him yet. Any preference from the other players?

i'm fine with either concept, but i beleive the nerd is probably needed a little more by the party. probably a hacker with medical knowledge.

I was thinking as much. I like the boxer idea better, but a nerd is needed, in this case. Like I said, it might not be until Sunday, but I'll pull out all my Star Wars books and get to creating.

i currently have a highly religious/superstitious japanese high chool student/apprentice miko who hates being harrased by Otaku. i guess i am the oddball in this group. but in most of my groups, i kind of am the Oddball. i have Tian inquisitors that GM's have to work around in 2 whole campaigns, a catgirl ronin on deck for another, an alkenstarian academic "agent" who is a bibliophile and a numeriophile who seeks to become a loremaster, a sickly little noble youth who dresses like a porcelain doll, a celestial youth who is a complete goody 2 shoes to contrast a darker edgier party, and i had a prepubescent female "Ninja" who carried a single wakazashi, a spring loaded wrist dagger, a single baton, and a spring fed self-auto-reloading mini crossbow bracer with miniature magazines of 5 bolts each.

Sounds good.

The nice thing with Zombie games and a cruise ship is that it is easy to fit characters in and even in the midst of scenes.

Welcome to the ship!

I actually would have thought the boxer would be more useful (we've got a tough guy mechanic headed for guns, a search and rescue EMT, and whatever Ichigo is), but I dunno. A tech geek would probably be helpful for as long as the tech holds out (and for cobbling together stuff afterwards). And I guess punching zombies is probably not the safest career choice.

Personally I'd say go with whichever concept you like better. Whichever way you go, happy to have you on board.

I agree, go with whatever you would prefer to play; this is a zombie game, after all, so we cannot necessarily expect to cobble-together an 'ideal' party :-)

This is Gerald's character. I went for a card player, instead of a nerd. He still covers the basic roles, though. Please check him out.

I am not sure about the occupation bonuses, though. Is there a bonus for being a gambler? If so, let me know and I will add that in.
