Would charm monster work on a summoned creature?

Rules Questions

A summoner summoned an elemental. Could you charm it with charm monster? Could it be sent to attack the summoner or would it refuse? Is it better to send against one of his allies?

Thanks
P

Yes, it technically works, but the summoner can just dismiss the charmed creature before it does any damage.

There would be a contest of will. See page 209 = multiple Mental Control effects.

Charm Monster.... No. See Charm person spell, your now his friend...anything else requires a charisma check.

Dominate Monster..... Yes, but like erik542 said, the summoner could dismiss the creature on his turn.

Charm monster should at least prevent the monster from attacking the caster and chose another target. If commanded to attack by conjurer it would take opposed Charisma check *and* if the conjurer managed to win creature still would try to deal nonlethal damage or use incapacitating abilities in dealing with its "friend" if intelligent enough.

Except dismissing spell is a standard action. So it is one standard action for summoner less.
