Five foot step and size

Rules Questions

Hi,

Does the five-foot step is constant for every size ?

Example : A giant of storm has a speed of 50ft without armor. His step's still 5 foot like a human ?

Thanks for answers.

Yes. Regardless of size or speed, a 5 foot step is a five feet, just like a human. I've always found it a bit wonky, but gamism of this nature does make the game easier to play. YMMV

Yes its the same.

Yep, realism sacrificed for game balance. If you modify the 5 ft step by size, then shouldn't it be modified by speed as well? Since size basically denotes bigger steps which means faster speed.

Then what speed categories does it go up at? And excuse me while I pump up my fighter, monk, or barbarian's speed to take a 5ft shift across the battlefield so I can continue making full attacks :)

It just gets messy, and is easier to standardize as a 5ft shift. However, there's nothing wrong with a dm adding in a rules layout for adjusting it based on size, speed, or both if he wants to.
