Pathfinder and it's treasure system

Rules Questions

pathfinder and it's treasure system.

I'm looking over the treasure system of pathfinder and have a question.

looking at Table: Treasure Values per Encounter

how the heck do you determine between individual and lair treasure using this model?

was looking at the 2nd edition model and they had a definite split between the two different category's even if it was volatile.

I believe the model already compensates for lair treasure and treasure possessed by individual enemies as a whole. It offers some freedom as to what treasure you want to put in your campaign.

I don't believe that treasure possessed by NPCs is taken into account unless it happens to be of significant value, though I could be dead wrong.

you base it on the CR for the whole encounter. So a single monster with a CR of 10 would have the same treasure output as 6 CR 5 monsters (based on Table: CR Equivalencies ). Now, you have to figure out what kind of treasure that is, it just gives you the basic GP value of it.

okay

I've been doing some monster building with the system and have been breaking it down what it would be based on what you fight.

I've also been using it as a "budget" for any unusual equipment the creature might have.

so with that in mind, a lair amount would replace the monster entirely?

Is there any challange with associated with the lair other than the monsters? (traps or such)? If so, than the traps would have their own CR and you could base the treasure off of that. If not, then the treasure in the lair is considered part of the monster's treasure. (Unless you want to throw more or less in there, which is your prerogative as GM).

Please note, this is how I would handle it at least.
