Attacks of Opportunity and Manuevers

Liberty's Edge

Can a character substitute a Combat Maneuver (such as Trip) for his "single melee attack" granted by an Attack of Opportunity?

If so, then a character with a Reach weapon and Combat Patrol can become a tripping machine vs. other melee combatants, since he now threatens a 15 ' area around him... any time an enemy moves within 10' to make an attack he is considered to be "leaving a threatened square" and becomes a recipient of a Attack of Opportunity.

Give it to a monk with a Trip/Reach weapon (such as a Guisarme) and the character threatens any ANY square within a 15' radius... and can Trip them as they approach, then attack them again with a standard attack if they attempt to stand.

Yes.

He threatens but he must still be able to reach them to attack them, assuming he moves to trip then he can do so.

A character that trips someone with an AoO can take an AoO as the tripped person tries to stand up, however he can not trip them again since they are still prone (the AoO happens before the action that triggers it meaning the character getting up isn't up yet therefore can't be tripped again).

Liberty's Edge

It's even better if he gets Lunge and Greater Trip.

Lunge only works on your turn... but is still useful.

Liberty's Edge

So, to clarify, the core assumption of the Combat Patrol feat's increased threat range is movement? Therefore, a character cannot simply stay in on place and threaten that increased area; he must be mobile.

He threatens it -- he must move to attack in it.

Only if you cant already reach them but essentially yes

correct -- you get the flanking help from the guy with combat patrol which is worth something too.
