Recruiting 3 replacement Kingmaker PBP players

So I just started running a Kingmaker campaign and at least two players have dropped, and it's likely a third has.

On the bright side, we need replacements, so put your bids in here. The remaining characters are a human rogue, human witch and elven cleric, all of whom seem to be posting a lot and doing a nice job of it.

Fair warning -- this is the first PBP game I've DM'ed, so I am still getting my bearings a bit (stepped in for another DM when he bailed on his recruitment thread), and the only PBP game I've played in died on page four, so I'm not the most experienced at this form of gaming, though I've done tabletop for a couple decades. I'm aiming for one or two posts a day, though I'm still trying to get the right balance of giving players a chance to respond vs. following up on the most recent comments (of course, I think I've also been waiting for the people who clearly have stopped playing, so that's definitely not working out for me).

I don't like point buy. Characters will be made using the "heroic" method. 2d6+6 for each stat, which can be rolled in this thread; they can be put in any order you want. Core rulebook and APG are available; two traits, which can also come from the Kingmaker player's guide (available as a free PDF on your favorite Paizo website).

I'll decide characters based on how interesting I think they are and writing style, so please give me a fleshed-out history so I have some idea of how you write.

Here's the game thread if you want to check it out.

And here's the OOC thread.

Because of how early it is, you'll probably just be retconned into having traveled to the fort along with everyone else, rather than trying to shoe-horn in three people suddenly leaving and three more showing up.

I'm strongly interested. Is everyone else still level 1? I'll make my character and get you the information soon. I just have to get to work or I'd post it now. I'll probably be a human Paladin or Cavalier, since it seems the group could use a tank/fighter type. Barring that, I have a really cool idea for an oracle/barbarian.

I want to play a human oracle, maybe of battle or life. I'll get things up soon.

Dark Archive

I'm interested. I would like to play a human fighter with the Aldori Sword Lord build from the Primer to the Inner Sea book. I'll put up the character as soon as I get back from the mechanic's.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Yes, sorry, everyone is still level 1. Honestly, we're just at page one of the adventure path (since we started over the holidays, I was going intentionally slow, as I'd told them we would to accommodate busy lives, and we role-played the journey itself to the fort instead of just starting at its gates).

Fair warning, I found cavaliers really dull in the APG. If you give me a really good writeup, I'll look past that, but I'd probably be more inclined toward the paladin. An oracle/barbarian sounds like it could be really interesting.

The Exchange

I am interested. I have applied for DM Barca's game, but have not yet made the cut.

I will post a character concept later today.

Yeah. I've been working on the concept for a while. If you can wait til I post him later to make your choice you'll see. And a cavalier can be dull, but I have a lot of fun in making them and they never play dull from my experience. Who does your cleric worship?

Cleric worships Desna.

Celestial Half-Porc here. I believe I submitted Wilkes for your game originally and thought I'd try him out again.

Male Halfling Oracle of Life

Background:

Spoiler:
Unknown to Wilkes, he was actually one of a pair of twins. His unborn sister died during birth and his parents decided it was best not to tell him until he was older. Wilkes grew up tending the small patch of farmland his family had held for centuries in the south of Brevoy. During this time he noticed small occurrences that happened around him, but mostly unknown to others. Candles would be blown out by a breeze of unknown origin while he was eating or writing, small items would be rearranged in his room and items would not be where he placed them in his pack. One afternoon while he was out tending the fields, Wilkes heard one of their dogs crying out in pain. He ran to the dog’s side and noticed it had been attacked by a boar. This was what made Wilkes realize his true potential and purpose. As he laid his hands on the dog, a faint glow emanated from them and the wounds closed almost immediately.

When Wilkes was eighteen, his parents finally told him about his sister. As he thought about it he realized that all the small odd occurrences, and his ability to heal the dog was his sister’s life force flowing through him and ultimately saved him at birth. A few months passed and Wilkes caught wind of the rumor of expansion into the Stolen lands. Wilkes packed up his belongings and made his way into the wild, hoping to meet some new people and use his abilities for good.

Description:

Spoiler:
Age: 21
Height: 3'-0"
Weight: 35lbs
Wilkes is a happy-go-lucky kind of guy, never letting a bad situation break his spirit. His attitude toward others really depends on how he is treated, since his family was secluded on their farm. Wilkes welcomes all into his life and if he thinks someone is in need, he will give everything to help.

How about a human ranger? Havrin Stahl is a VERY distant (but legitimate!) relation to the Medvyed noble family of eastern Brevoy (his mother was a Medvyed, and his father was a forester and trader). Growing up far removed from the House seat of Stoneclimb, Havrin spent nearly his entire life under the sheltering boughs of the Gronzi Forest, which led to his deep respect for the wilderness and the creatures that dwell within.

Six months ago, Havrin’s father, Harther Stahl, disappeared while leading a trade caravan from Restov through the Stolen Lands to the River Kingdoms. Only last month, word filtered back to Havrin that a lone, grievously-wounded survivor from the caravan was found by a wandering priest of Erastil. Before the man died of his wounds, he stated that the caravan had been waylaid by bandits in the Stolen Lands, and that the caravan leader had been captured by the bandits, wounded but alive.

Havrin traveled to Restov in hopes of tracking down more information about his father’s disappearance in the Stolen Lands. He views the offer of a charter from the Swordlords granting the right to explore the southern wilderness as a fortunate coincidence.

Havrin Stahl stands approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds. He has black hair, dark piercing eyes, and tan weathered skin. He speaks softly with a deep, bass voice. He is typically dressed in worn travel leathers with a broad-brimmed hat.

It seems oracle is a popular choice. Ill start with barbarian and progress into oracle. Human, with 2 traits I'm assuming? And ill flesh out a story and character sheet.

Here's Havrin's profile. The ability scores listed are from a point-buy (yes, Havrin is a recycled character) - if accepted I'll roll for stats and adjust numbers accordingly.

In all fairness, you should know that I am DM'ing a Kingmaker PbP here on the boards: (DM Sully's Kingmaker), so if that would throw me out of consideration I totally understand.

Thanks for your consideration, and happy gaming!

R O L L S:

Trying my luck in the rolls.

Concept::
How did he came to his current condition was always a source of gossip at the local village well. It didn't help that Karmen was easy on the eyes too. Alas, if only he weren't lame they sighed, he'd be perfect!

Left with one good leg after a freak tree felling accident, Karmen always had a feeling that Gorum must have been amused to see him grit his teeth and single handedly free his trapped and shattered tibia with pure grit and strength. Passing out from the ordeal, he awoke to find his injured leg healed, albeit short with an odd sword shaped scar running down its length.

Since then, Karmen realizing his new found talents became ever eager to carve himself a niche in which fortune and fame could be achieved. The offer of a charter to the Stolen Lands was a means to do so and eagerly Karmen accepted.

Hey Mott,
I had originally posted in the first recruitment thread and would like to be reconsidered for this game.
Thanks,

Urug is a half-orc paladin of Erastil. His dark hair hangs in a long braid behind his back, while his toothy grin shows he's much more friendly and cheerful than most of his kind are.

While he would like nothing more than a life of peace and relaxation, Erastil has called him to hunt things that are bigger and far more dangerous than deer and boar.

While his superiors in the church had planned on asking for a volunteer to travel to bevoy to help in their settlement of these new wild lands, they expected to at least have to ask the question before being approached by a volunteer for a mission they hadn't announced yet. So please were they, that Urug was granted permission to travel to Bevoy, to help where he could, and protect the other settlers around him.

Drayen here with my character submission.

Background:

Leithbridge Gravenhurst was born the third son of four children to a Brevan noble family. His father's role for all of his sons was clearly spelled out. Leithbridge's oldest brother, Lysander, would inherit all titles and estates. His second brother, Ruthier, was sent to study the arcane arts. Leithbridge himself was expected to become a priest, whereas his little sister, Telmaine, was to be of use to the family in catching the eye of another prominent noble family scion and garner yet more wealth and prestige. Still, a noble's son should be educated and Leithbridge was schooled in his letters and sums as well as taught the skill of arms in the traditional Aldori way. Of course, living in the city of Restov ensured the best of tutors. Thus, it was Leithbridge's desire to join the vaunted ranks of the Aldori Swordmasters that brought him to this point.

His mother, a noble daughter of House Medvyed, taught her children many of her family's customs and traditions. Her lessons included graceful interaction with the courts of the fae, a respect for nature and the skills to thrive in the wilderness, her family's upholding of the ancient ways of Curchanus, and how to find their way through the deepest wilds. Of her four children, Leithbridge and Telmaine took their mother's teachings to heart, venerating the wild places, the fae and the memory of Curchanus.

While Leithbridge was daring and a natural leader amongst his childhood friends, leading them on grand adventures reminiscent of an early Brevoy; Telmaine seemed born to nature. From the way Sylvan trilled off her tongue, to her unerring insight into the mysteries of nature, Telmaine expressed the ancient myths of the Medveyed family having been born of the first world.

Upon his coming of age, Leithbridge had decided that the priesthood wasn't for him. Having failed to change his father's mind, Leithbridge stole away during the night, taking only those belongings he could carry. He knew his mother would understand and with her gentle way she would avoid the lightning and thunder that would be his father’s invection. On his way through the manor, Leithbridge passed a portrait of one of his esteemed forebearers, an original Taldan pioneer and one of the founders of Brevoy, a student of the Baron Sirian Aldori himself, and one of Leithbridge's personal heroes. His ancestor's dueling sword, mounted below the portrait for as long as Leithbridge could remember, reminded him that he had nothing more than the paired daggers his father insisted all of his sons wear at all times to call his own. As no one ever used the sword and since, to Leithbridge's way of thinking, he was pursuing the path of his ancestor, he removed the sword and took it with him. The only pang of regret Leithbridge felt at his departure was a sense of abandoning Telmaine. As consolation (and truthfully, to assuage his guilt) he promised to come back to rescue her once he has secured his fame and fortune.

Here we find Leithbridge Gravenhurst, on his own and wishing to put distance between himself and his family. The opportunity to explore uncharted lands and possibly make a name for himself are just what he desires.

I know you said you found Cavaliers boring, so I don't expect too much consideration, but I thought this concept was actually fairly interesting. She is a wolf-riding gnome cavalier, order of the shield. Between her and the wolf, they have some wilderness skills in addition to her diplomacy. She has a bit of the fey connection going on, so she seems very childlike, yet can deliver surprising bluntness. She rides her wolf while knitting odd hats and scarves from spider webs and dried flowers she collects in between helping those in need and seeing that the forest balance is maintained.

I just missed out on another Kingmaker campaign so this concept is basically ready to go or can be amended to better fit your game. Details can be found on the profile page. The stats will be rerolled as appropriate for this game if selected.

Thanks for your consideration.

Full background from profile:

Betony is a Child of the Forest. Her mother, the druid of her clan raised her to be a Warden of their home in the Gronzi Forest. While her friends grew up nearly wild, Betony shouldered this responsibility. Such responsibility would have bleached her friends, but Betony saw this as an opportunity to explore the world beyond her family glade.

She befriended all the inhabitants of the Forest, be they animals, fey, and humans. Her relations with the Medvyed pioneers became strained at times, but as long as the forest balance was honored, she remained friends. But where liberties were taken, Betony and the other Wardens would react harshly with those who hunt for sport or pelts, or clear cut the forest. Her gnomish skills are used to intimidate and frighten transgressors, whereas force is used on those who don't get the message.

On her roaming treks, she learned to live entirely off the nuts and berries of the Forest, but she also relied on her friends. Those who honor the forest would often leave gifts for her and her companion, Thistledown, the whitish silver wolf. Glass beads and food are left on certain fallen trees or toadstool circles in thanks for her protection and she in turn gifts scarves and hats she knits and weaves from spider silk, wolf fur, and dried flowers.

Rumors of an approaching war have entered the Forest and her mother has dispatched her to find out if this is true and what impact it will have on the Gronzi Forest. Betony seeks to ensure that war does not come to her home. She seeks to go to the heart of the rumors, learn what she can, steer strife away where she can, and especially help those innocents in its immediate path. She sets down the path to Restov. The rumors suggest that the Stolen Lands will be at the heart of the coming trouble, so there is where she will go to be the most help that she can, protecting those in need and perhaps drawing the war to the south. Old rumors that gnomes once lived in that region has also caught her imagination, that perhaps this is an older gnome settled area in need of protecting.

I guess I should give the stat rolls a shot.

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11

Not bad at all.

Here is my attempt from DM Barcas' game that didn't quite make it; it can be adjusted to gnome if that would make it fit better.

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13

Alright, so now it's my turn :p Not that the other characters here aren't awesome, because they are. I'll wait to have stats fully fleshed out until you've decided you like my concept or not. I'll post the probable feats/character options I've chosen as well.

Spoiler:

When one hears the word "barbarian" they associate it with the tribes of wandering nomads and the monsters that roam the world. They don't often consider that the power of intense emotions can be the tools of the most successful nobles and their kin. Xanwell was not born as a noble, though his mother was of some importance to a minor noble family in Brevoy. When it was discovered that the child the noble woman would soon give birth to belonged to one of the loyal guards, the child was given to one of the country's leading soldiers to care for.

With his mother's betrayal discovered, and his father executed, the young child would know a life of harshness deserved by his parents but taken out on him. He was cared for, his "parents" treating him with love and affection; but his father was a career soldier and his mother a soldier's wife. He learned what he could about the world from them, but eventually he would be enrolled into military academy. He suffered, from birth they suspected,a dulled sense of hearing. Considered dumb, he was put to the demeaning tasks and never given a chance for much else. If it wasn't for his ability to take a beating, and his strong frame, he might have remained there.

He befriended a rich man's son, a man who excelled in everything he did. As such, the man was recruited by the local nobles to participate in an expedition into the Stolen Lands. Out of pride and distaste for such an assignment (unaware of what it could mean), he volunteered his friend, Xanwell, for the assignment. Gladly accepting it, the quick-to anger boy accepted the task as a chance to prove himself as more than a ditch digger.

Before he left for the trip, Xanwell was visited by a drunken cleric of Iomedae, one who would give him a strange warning. Noticing Xanwell's dulled hearing, he would let out a low whistle.

"Your hearing will not always be with you, but you will have clarity beyond others. Your anger will guide you, and help you to survive what is to come. There is a power within you, and you will soon learn to embrace it, but first you must pay what is owed."

Taking this warning to heart, Xanwell packed what he had and headed out to a small trading post called Oleg's. Soon, he'd learn what was meant by the cleric, and what was to come."

As far as character choices, Xanwell will start out as a barbarian, with power attack, and great will. He'll also be using a greatsword and will advance to Oracle at level 2, and probably swap advancement for a bit. I left the history open for detailed rp opportunity, especially when he's ready for level 2. His "dulled" hearing will completely shift away into deafness as per the oracle curse, and then I can actually roleplay out the learning of overcoming the disability. I think this sets up great roleplaying chances, as well as makes it interesting. Thanks for consideration.

I'm still interested and posted on the original recruitment thread.

I'm using my same character concept from DM Barca's game. I'll add a little more detail though.

STATS
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12

No shortage of character concepts at least. Almost makes me half tempted to try DMing a Kingmaker game myself here; how do people handle maps with pbp?

Be careful what you wish for; I've never DM'ed before so it would probably get "interesting" very quickly.

I have the same feeling. I could put together any character concept you want if it gives me the chance to play. I'm just looking to have fun playing my favorite hobby.

Check out Boomer's Bar and Grill in the game section; it may not be an actual game, but it should provide some entertainment.

i would like to propose a noble blooded fetchling bard once my bestiary 2 comes in the mail.

all i know is that fetchlings are humans with shadow extraplanar ancestry. i can get started on creation

sickly noble who escaped her uncle so she go on a quest to overcome her frailty. mostly a social and support character. the description is in a thread posted by Ashiel. she also dresses like a gothic victorian era porcelean doll.

Stats of Her Excellency, Lady Umbriere Nox Astrum Lunas Moonwhisper

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10

Might as well go ahead and roll up some stats and update the profile:

STATS:
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 = 18

Quite the mixed bag there. Profile has been updated. With these stats, Betony has become a lot more charming, but a little more flighty. Should be fun.

i need to wait for my bestiary 2 to come in the mail before i play this pc. so i will reassign myself to the waiting list rather than becoming an initial player. anyone else can supercede my place until it comes. but i am still considering a female fetchling support bard with a heavy porcelain doll motif.

Sorry, guys, if it makes you feel better, it's just as hard choosing these characters as it is trying to get chosen. This is the second time I've done it, and I think I loathe it. Lots of good ideas, but I can only pick three. Heck, I'd still love to actually play in a game, which is what I was trying to do when I decided to DM the abandoned campaign I was applying for.

We'll go with Orin, Xanwell and Edrukk (dwarf is fine; I like the idea of a dwarven bard).

Sorry to those who didn't make the cut. Good luck finding another game.
If you could please finalize your characters in the OOC thread and we'll get back to forging a kingdom.

For those who didn't make it, I am considering tracking down a copy of Serpent's Skull and running that in the near future. In the mean time, check out Boomer's Bar & Grill for some fun rping with everyone else waiting for a game.

i have almost completed umbriere, she will be done by tomorrow.
