Question about $30.58 store credit.

I noticed this the other day, and mostly shrugged it off, basically believing it would get used for my final back order (Psionics Unleashed). But, the more I think about it, I wonder if that is truly the case. I'm pretty sure (but may be wrong) that Psionics Unleashed is paid for (having used my gift certificates up and paid the balance with my bank card/debit card).

Maybe the $30.58 is what has yet to be "charged" to my card?

On the chance that I actually do have a store credit, could it be put towards my pending subscription order?

Thanks in advance for any help. (Both in figuring out how I got a store credit, but also "what" the store credit really is).

Dean, from what I am looking at for your order, everything is current for what we've fulfilled so far. You do have store credit, and some of it has already been applied to the order - the $30.58 is what is remaining of your store credit.

Hmmm... okay. (This is unprecedented ... I don't know what to do with myself...)*

*Bonus points if you can name the movie I'm paraphrasing/quoting. :)

PS: Seriously though, I don't know what to do with this store credit... heh heh... beyond the obvious.

Well... okay, I called my bank today to find out what amount(s) have been deducted from my debit card (since I placed this order, and it wasn't part of my monthly subscriptions). I was surprised to learn that two separate amounts were deducted according to the teller I spoke with.

$79.17 and $25.49.

The print out from my order that I placed (order # 1595584, which was then split up into 3 orders; #1595598 Psionics Unleashed; #1595590 Tales of the Old Margreve; and last # 1595599 Book of Arcane Magic, Book of Divine Magic, Paths of Power, Luven Lightfinger's Gear & Treasure Shop, Imperial Gazetteer, and Coliseum Morpheuon) shows me the following:

The print out would seem to indicate that the first two orders are covered by store credit (my gift certificates), the final order is partially covered by remaining store credit, with the "balance" paid for by my debit card (and that amount should be $50.71).

So, I'm a little confused by the two amounts (one more than I was expecting, the other less...) being deducted. I know some of the items were on back order, but I thought with the purchase of those covered by gift certificates/store credit, I'd only have the one amount ($50.71) deducted from my account when the order shipped.

I feel like I've been over charged on the one hand, but I'm not angry or upset, just truly confused. It seems like the order(s) didn't get resolved in the manner in which my print out seems to show.

Any help in explaining this (because I don't think it can be "resolved" the money has already come out of my account, thankfully I had the funds at the time) would be really appreciated.

I'm a little "gun shy" of making any further orders until I really understand what has happened.

Thank you,

Sincerely,

Dean, I'm looking into this for you - something's fishy and I'm going on a hunt to figure out what happened.

Liz,

Thank you very much. I really appreciate the time you're taking looking into this for me. (I've said it before, but it bears repeating, the Customer Service at Paizo Publishing is second-to-none).

On the plus side... I got my books (except for Psionics Unleashed... soon oh so soon) and then my regular subscription order too... W00T! :)

Lots of new reading materials.

Thanks again for all your help.

Hey Liz I just had a random thought that might (possibly) explain what happened. One of the two amounts deducted from my account was $25.49 (which is the price of Psionics Unleashed w/o the cost of shipping), and about the $79.17... I'm not 100% positive on this, but maybe its the $21.21 for Tales of the Old Margreve plus the cost of shipping? (Roughly $7 +).

I see my store credit has recently increased by $25.49 (to a total of $56.07)... and if I'm close to correct... adding another $21.21 back into store credit should just about cover the error. (Which I'm now thinking was charging my bank card for the two back ordered items, even though they should have been taking care of with my gift certificates).

Am I close to what happened? :)

Liz can check your specifics, but it is correct that when you buy a print/PDF bundle, you're charged immediately for the bundle price and given access to the PDF, and when we ship the print edition, that's when we charge the shipping fee.

Thanks Vic,

That sort of helps, however the main confusion/concern is (apparently) being charged twice for the two (formerly) backordered items; Psionics Unleashed and Tales of the Old Margreve. I used gift certificates to buy these and the initial order seemed to process fine. It's the two payments/deductions from my bank card/debit card that really concern me. (And let me further clarify, if these books were already "paid for" with gift certs./store credit (including shipping as the print out of my order seemed to indicate) but then I was charged for them/paid for them again (but through my bank card) that's were my confusion stems from. It's like the gift certificates were ignored as far as payment is concerned.

But, thanks for taking the time to explain the process behind the print/PDF bundle option. I have enjoyed the immediate access to Psionics Unleashed, and will likely purchase other print/PDF bundles in the future.

Oof, what a mess...

Here's what happened:

Spoiler:

  • Authorize for $4.66 on the main order #1595584. Authorization not used.
  • Authorize/settle for $25.49 for Psionics Unleashed Print/PDF bundle, order #1595598. This covers PDF products.
  • Authorize/settle for $79.17 on PDFs on order #1595599.
  • Store credit for $13.75 on order #1595599 for print products and shipping.
  • Store credit for $24.36 on order #1595590 for Tales of the Old Margreve print product.
  • Store credit for $5.82 on order #1595598 for shipping on print version of Psionics Unleashed.

Short version: You used a total of $43.93 in store credit and $104.66 on your card. If you would like, I can use the $56.07 of store credit that you have left and refund your card for that amount (I would need to know which card to refund it to).

I sincerely apologize for the screw-up - I'm still not 100% what happened, but it looks like store credit was attempted to be used, but it did not actually go through, hence the discrepancy on what you saw on the order page and what actually happened financially.

Please let me know what you'd like me to do!

Hi Liz,

Nice bit o' gum-shoeing there. :) Thank you for all your efforts and getting to the bottom of this. (I didn't think it was possible to credit my bank card/debit card... but if that can be done, yes please refund my card (ending in 4502) with the $56.07 store credit.

Not that it matters, but roughly how long will it take to show the credit/refund?

Thanks again.

It depends on your credit card company, but most will take about a week for the credit to cross and show up on your balance.

Your card ending in 4502 has been refunded for $56.07. It should show in your account within 3-5 business days (timeframe depends on the bank).
