Can trees be creatures?

Rules Questions

I was reading the new "Create Pit" spell and was unsure if it would allow me to create a pit beneath a tree?.
I would like to use it in this instance to get the archer in the treetop into melee-range with my partymates.

Is a tree an object or a plant-creature with 0 dex and 0 movespeed?

Trees are objects, sorry. Unless animated, then you might have a case. The easy way to think of these things is to see if you can find its stats. As my Bestiary has no entry for "tree" it's therefore an object by default.

Hmm, I could break that example in half with a little effort. :D

More specifically, trees are objects because they have no ability to act or resist being acted on. There isn't much grey area when it comes to this.

It does get fuzzy when you get into intelligent items and helpless creatures, or magically animated objects as Lathiira mentioned above.

On a side note, Lathira is an old WoW character of mine.

Edited: Clarity.

All that said, there is nothing preventing you from opening a pit beneath a tree. The tree simply doesn't get a Reflex save.
