Npcs typically don't get favored class bonus

Greetings, fellow traveller.

3rd level human warrior:

A warrior gets (2+INT-modifier) skill points per level --> INT 9 --> 3
A human gets 1 extra skill point per level --> 3 levels --> 3

Quote:

Intimidate +5

Perception +3
Ride -3
Sense Motive +2

Intimidate (CHA), class skill: -1 (CHA 8) + 3 ranks + 3 bonus --> used: 3

Perception (WIS): +0 (WIS 10) + 1 rank + 2 (Alertness) --> used: 1
Ride (DEX), class skill: +0 (DEX 11) + 1 rank +3 bonus -7 (ACP) --> used: 1
Sense Motive (WIS): + 0 (WIS 10) + 0 rank + 2 (Alertness) --> used: 0

I don't see the favored class bonus come into play since it is an NPC.

So regarding your posting, your assumptions seem correct, the guard is 1 skill point short of his maximum.

Ruyan.

/edit: ninja'd due to checking back and forth

I've done the skill math on many other GMG NPCs and they seem to have favored class skill points added in.

or do you mean that NPC classes like warrior don't get favored class points?

the latter.

Personally I would like to see ranks listed in parentheses after the skill modifier to help break down things like this.

Skills are the most commonly made errors in published materials, and listing out the breakdown when writing is the easiest way to avoid such.

If the ranks needed to be listed in the stat blocks it would encourage such care in the writing, as well as make spotting such errors much easier for editor and reader alike.

I've suggested the same thing elsewhere but after a colon, Swim +5:2
