RotRL for a single players

Advice

So I've got a player that would like to play a tabletop game but we cannot find a group in the area. I have started acquired the Rise of the Runelords adventure path, and have been itching to run it.

Now he's a relatively new player, and it's an adventure balanced for four PCs. I figured I'd run it without converting monster stats to pathfinder, while letting my player use a 25 point buy and the gestalt system for his character (he wants to make a fighter/inquisitor of Desna). Think this would work?

Sovereign Court

No- you'd still need to tweak down encounter or provide extra support for the PC.

Consider having an NPC gestalt character helping the character along- I wouldn't touch the wealth too much though as between them they are effectively getting four persons shares anyway.

Alright, I'll work in some support, maybe via Shalelu, in the earlier games, and encourage him to take Leadership for the cohort at level 7.

RotL is pretty hard. The biggest problem won't be PC power, but action economy. A group of 4 has 4 actions per round, a group of 2, even with gestalt, still only has 2 turns. That's the huge issue to be careful about.

It also lets monsters focus fire more, and if you only have two characters and you have to waste an action to heal.....lookout. Maybe make casting healing spells a swift action always for the two characters?

Well, he has expressed a desire to be pretty methodical and crafty about his combats. He wants to set ambushes and build traps and come up with other ways to level the playing field in ways I usually don't see, so I'd like to see how that all plays out.

Liberty's Edge

Realy you may be fine with your idea. I played the cobold king story with just one other player and we were gestalted. We did great even agenst the tougher bad guys though we did have a druid aniamal companion to help with combat.
