Is this creature suitable as an advanced familiar ? It seems the same power level as the imp and the new cr 2 ish outsiders but doesn't seem to have the entry noting it like the others

Most of the advanced familiars seem to be missing the exact prerequisites, though a good guess for the silvanshee's details would likely be 7th level, NG alignment, and the Improved Familiar feat.

Oh yes I figured I was but some of the outsiders in the new book have it mentioned.

Edit I think I answered my own question, I found the line immunize entry that talks abounthier role as familiars. It just doesn't mention the bit about advanced familiars.

We specifically added a CR 2 creature to each of the outsider groups so they'd all have a race-appropriate equivalent to the imp and quasit.

This is what I thought was the case, and something I really like. But for example the paracletus specifically a dresses the improved familiar feat. Where as the Silvanshee doesn't and this is the sort of thing likely to sway mt current dm. Bur I bmed this thread to show him.

The silvanshee is indeed intended to be a NG option for familiar. It's missing its text that says so explicitly, which is unfortunate, but comparisons to all the other CR 2 familiar options should hopefully be all the "proof" you need to convince a GM that it's cool for an Improved Familiar silvanshee.

Or this post, and the eventual errata update. :)

On another question of the this creature, as it gains levels/hd as a familiar do the dice in the lay on hands change?

Sadly, familiars don't gain levels or hit dice, only hit points.

It uses it's Master's Wizard/Sorcerer/Witch level as it's Hit dice for all abilities related to HD, which included Lay on Hands. Agathion's get LoH as if they were a Paladin of a level equal to their HD.

So to verify, a level 12 Wizard has a 12 hd Silvanshee that can lay on hands once as a 12 lv paladin 6d6?

Correct.

Whoops, you're right. Or near enough:

Quote:

It retains the appearance, Hit Dice, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, skills, and feats of the normal animal it once was, but is now a magical beast for the purpose of effects that depend on its type.

...

Hit Dice: For the purpose of effects related to number of Hit Dice, use the master's character level or the familiar's normal HD total, whichever is higher.

So, it has its original hit dice, except all relevant effects treat it as if it had its master's hit dice (or its own, whichever is higher) and its hit points are overridden. Makes you wonder why they didn't just override the hit dice completely.
