Looking for Pathfinder PbP Game

Gamer Connection

Yes, another one of these.

The main thing to know about myself is that I'm now 26 and have been playing roleplaying games basically since I was 12, so I've about 14 years of gaming behind me. I'm not new to PbP, though I am new to these boards and have yet to actually try a D&D game with use of the proper rules on such a platform. I'd like to change that and would be glad to be part of a Pathfinder Chronicle. I'd love to try out some of the published games such as Kingmaker (that one in particular, for the economical and political potential; not sure how much there is of that in reality, but I've heard good things from a friend), but I'm also interested in any ST-designed campaigns, of course.

After looking into the newest Beta-Magus writeup, I'm pretty interested in trying this class, though I could probably come up with a decent character for pretty much any game that needs a specific role filled. Hell, I'd even try my hand at one of those super-complicated Summoners if the game sounds interesting enough. I have a penchant for the swashbuckling, more finesse-using type and/or social type, though. I'll play any of the classic alignment ranges, though being Evil is a guilty pleasure I'll gladly admit to. (Now, I'm not talking Stupid Evil here, and I do believe with a little guile an evil character can fit perfectly well into an otherwise Good group.)

All in all, I prefer roleplaying over pure combat and dungeon-crawling, but I'm not averse to the letter as long as it doesn't turn into number crunching only and there's still plenty of character interaction to be had.

Now, I'm not trying to sound arrogant here or anything, but I do prefer games in which most participants have a good grasp of English and aren't prone to writing 'your' instead of 'you're' and such. I myself am not a native speaker (living in Vienna, Austria; my native tongue is thus German), but maybe that's the reason why I'm a little peculiar about that.

Oh, and probably also relevant is that, as I'm living in Austria and all, my timetable runs on GMT+1. I'm basically one hour ahead of the British folk.

So, to put a final word to it: I'm looking forward to any responses and would love to participate in your Pathfinder games.

Some of these threads have found intrepid DMs lately, so if a game develops here, I'd like to be considered as a player. I'd mostly be interested in the published Paizo modules or paths, including Kingmaker. The ones I couldn't participate in are Rise of the Runelords, Curse of the Crimson Throne, and Council of Thieves, due to prior experience with them.

I live in US central time, and I can commit to post at least once/day on weekdays, and sometimes on weekends. I'd be most interested in trying a sorcerer, an archivist bard, or an oracle.

Lantern Lodge

If you were still wanting in on Shadows, I put you on the waiting list, though I'm ix-naying the Anti-Paladin for now as the campaign isn't really an evil campaign (biting my tongue - barring the rest of the waiting lists' alignments). I'm strongly considering, with four people on the waiting list now, of running a parallel campaign.

I saw, thanks. The Anti-Paladin wasn't really a serious suggestion unless the group opted to go really dark.

I'd be interested as well, should a game develop here. I'm on eastern time for about a month, then I go to China, where I'll be eastern time +12 hours. I'm open for just about any type of game, and I've got a plethora of character I could play. I usually favor diplomats or skill monkeys - characters that triumph through more insidious or indirect means (bards, witches, illusionists, alchemists and other such characters have been favorites of mine). I've also got ideas for a cavalier, a barbarian, or a cleric of Desna.

Add me to the list of those interested if one develops. The one PBP game I've tried so far seems to have petered out, but I'm anxious to try again. Been tabletop gaming for a couple decades now... Generally happy to play whatever works with a group/the group needs...

hmm i could be tempted into running a second game...what would folks be looking for?

mystery? horror? epic? swashbuckling? super social? etc.

I'd be up for anything. Sounds like we're less interested in a dungeon crawling type of game, but rather something that'll give us some opportunities to role-play.

I've always been a fan of horror-oriented campaigns, but it seems like in my home group I'm the one who always has to run them - playing in one would be a superb change of pace.

hmm I think i have a fun horror based idea with lots of roleplay capabilities!

lets do this!

level...3...yes level 3 sounds goood

stats...15,14,13,12,11,10 cause i think it will make for interesting characters....

Back drop......You have all for some reason or not been traveling a great distance (together or seperate up to you), you must be "running from something" that haunts you (a crime, a death, an enemy, whatever you want), and have come to Raach-End, a moderately small city that serves as a trading post in a mountain pass. Winter has just hit, leaving you snowed in the village until better weather returns.

NPC's that you can immediately reference if you've been at the town longer.

Godrick Elsfellow, barkeep of Last brass Inn
Captain Dorstein, head of the town guards
Lucilia Henderson, wealthy noble of high standing who uses the town as a quiet resort.
Father Draumgrim - Dwarven cleric who preaches about the mountain god.

Feel free to create a town npc in your background too.

lets go with...5 players!

I would actually quite enjoy joining another game, I've got a basic idea for a Paladin for a horror style game.

Still looking for players? and is this the thread to do it in?

Actually, for fluff, is it Golarion? mostly asking for deities at the moment.

Sooo many ideas... I'm trying to decide, but here are the ones I'm leaning towards.

A cavalier who has been framed for a crime and cast out of his "in-world" order. He still sticks to their edicts, and is finding a way to prove his innocence and bring whoever framed him to justice. He has a strong sense of social justice and makes it a point to observe traditional etiquette at all times, even when slaying mindless beast. He's being pursued by other knights of his order, and is troubled by this dilema. Honor insists that he staunchly defend himself, as he knows he is innocent, but he does not wish to engage he former comrades.

A barbarian who slaughtered his family when he lost himself in his rage. He fled his village and now wanders from place to place, trying to find his solace at the bottom of a bottle. He's highlyl volatile and self-destructive, having developed a rather nihilistic outlook on life. He is highly fatalistic, and attemps to disillusion overly idealistic characters and NPCs.

This one is a little cliche, but an alchemist who is becoming addicted to his potions and especially struggles with restraining himself while under the effects of his mutagens. Formerly a doctor, he was run out of his small village as his treatments became more arcane and questionable.

A young sorcerer (teenager) who's powers have recently manifested. When his latent talent awakened, it nearly killed his sweetheart and his family disowned him. His village wanted to burn him as a witch, but he was able to escape the pyre with his newly found abilities. He is still learning to control his powers, and has not fully accepted them. He is scared of what he can do, and usually resists casting spells unless it is absolutely crucial. They tend to come out on their own during states of heightened emotion.

i'll dm for 5-6 players based on first come first serve basis ;) will create a discusion thread once we have them.

as for location? its in my head, made up world, but any god will do!

anything goes for characters here as far as i am concerned.

Leshok wrote:

Sweet! I'm making a LeShay.

But in seriousness, I'm leaning more towards the alchemist or the sorcerer.

yes a death, dumb, blind, mute, crippled, pox ridden, hermaphrodite LeShay ;)

I'm going with the alchemist. I like the idea of the fledgling sorcerer, but I'm already playing a spellcaster in another game, and I'd like to mix it up.

The character is going to focus on extracts and mutagens over bombs. Infusion will be his first discovery, so he can give his potions to the party and function in a support role, though the hassle of offering a potion, accepting a potion, and drinking a potion in the middle of combat means he's not a primary healer.

I'll start drawing up the details. I assume we're using standard starting money from the core rulebook?

Also, what are you rules for buying scrolls at character creation to add to my formula book?

hi everyone..

I'm interested in joining in your game. Have been waiting for a while for an opportunity to come up. If you'll have me join I'd like to try playing an oracle/barbarian and trying out the associated rage prophet prestidge clas

My first thought -- though I'll change if someone else is dying to play the class or if we need some other class -- is a halfling ranger, Tel Thorngage.

I'm not sure the running from requirement really fits for what I was thinking of for Tel, though, so I may think of something else. I have a rogue that would work really well, but I'm already playing a rogue in a real-life game ... problems, problems...

I'd opt for a Magus as per the most recent Beta, if that's alright.

Also, could we, er ... not use bold letters for character speech? Unless everyone else prefers it. I find it rather distracting, myself.

I'll put in a formal dibs for the Paladin, stats shortly.

I do prefer the bold text, or at least something to differentiate it, but I'm pretty easygoing about it.

rennick: roll the char up and join on in!

Martinaj: alchemist is cool, start making up your back story.

Randall: do remember as stated earlier this is going to be a more rp focused horror style game, better a place to come with an interesting character idea than an interesting build idea.

motteditor: what i want in the "running from" is that each character already has something they are afraid of catching up with them. as a horror based game, each character needs something that they are worried about.

Von Doom: magus is fine! I don't care one way or another about the bold text, but i'll not force anyone to use/not use it.

everyone: My biggest thing is bring an interesting character personality, this game will be very heavily based in roleplaying, especially with fears, mistrust, and etc. there will be some action of course, but think a lot of brotherhood of the wolf, lots of suspense and uncertainty.

so with that in mind i'll allow in one more player just to spice things up. first come first serve.

Actually, after rereading everything, I think I'll bow out from this one if it's horror-themed. Not that I dislike the genre, but I get plenty of horror from the (old) World of Darkness games I play in.

I was looking for something a little more upbeat in Pathfinder. Doesn't mean it has to be happy sunshine or 'good-aligned', but, I'm pretty active in the horror genre specifically with other systems already.

I'd be interested. Let me think of a personality, first. My first thought is a stoic antihero, but I have enough stoic characters.

I've got a backstory together that I may be able to flesh out a little more once I learn more about the setting.

The character used to be a doctor in a mid-sized village and began dabbling in alchemical practices to make his treatments more effective. At first, it went fantastically - he was able to repair damage and cure illnesses that only clerics had been able to contend with in the past. However, the more he fell into the studies, the more obsessive he became with perfecting his technique. He began to take risks, and his treatments started to take a morally questionable turn as he performed "expirimental cures" on many of his patients. He began taking his droughts himself in the time-honored tradition of self-medicating doctors, and that visibly affected him, giving him deeply sunken eyes and strange, pulsing veins were the quasi-arcane mixtures had passed. It wasn't too long after this that he was run out town and labeled a criminal, and he now lives his life on the move. He does have a genuine desire to help people, but he is beginning to become more jaded and utilitarian. He will always choose to contribute on a larger scale when he can - he'll leave a sick child to die in order to combat an outbreak of plague elsewhere. Furthermore, he is still driven to develop his alchemic procedures, sometimes loosing sight of the costs, justifying the sacrifices he makes in the name of the greater good by telling himself that once he gets it right, it will help more people than it's harmed. He is addicted to his potions and will look for an excuse to consume one. In stressful situation (such as combat) his first reaction is to reach for an excract or a mutagen.

Right now his alignment is true neutral, but he's slipping. This character is somewhat maleable, and the influences of others could lean him one way or the other if the comes to respect them.

That sounds pretty keen. He'd probably stay neutral-something or something-neutral, from the sound of it, either way it may go.

Does the Alchemist have necromantic stuff available to him, too? I could see this guy coming to some Herbert West-like conclusions on life and death if he goes towards the evil end of things, if so.

He gets a handful of personal necromancey spells (false life and such), and I imagine that between heal and craft (alchemy) I should be able to embalm bodies and preserve organs. I plan for this character to make use of a lot of poisons in battle - alchemists get several automatic abilities to improve them, and I can learn additional discoveries to bump them up.

On further consideration, I'm afraid I'm going to withdraw, as well. I'm just not coming up with a concept I'm excited about.

I'll put up my character concept.

Kieran was a ne'er do well at small obscure village. Orphaned from youth he lived with his poverty strickened uncle. Naturally the uncle was glad into volunteering his nephew into signing up for a prospective mining expedition near Raach-End. Forbidding from returning until he changed his ways, Kieran joined.

For a contract that pays relatively well, the prospectors had a well established mining operation going on. Kieran's group of 2 dozen miners were opening up a new mining shaft away from the main operational area. A month into the contract, adversity struck.

I'll add some more later..

So, uh, question -- after people see that a GM has already started to put a game together in those player looking for game threads, does anyone still pay attention to these people looking for games?

By that, I mean ... should I start another thread, since I'm not joining the horror-themed one? I'm fairly new to these boards and don't know if anyone will actually look far enough to see that there are still people looking, once the thread's been 'claimed' by a GM.

Von Doom wrote:

It might be a good idea to start a new one. People tend to get confused if multiple adventures are discussed under the same heading.

Anyway, I'll summarize what the current thread recruitment is about.

Theme: Horror based
Start Level: 3
GM request: Each character needs something that they are worried about, which is something that may catch up with them from the past. Prefers interesting characters.
Stat block: 15,14,13,12,11,10

Completing Kieran's backstory:
A mineshaft collapse sealed and isolated the two dozen miners from the outside world. Half died in the collapse. The other half frantically doubled efforts to dig out. One by one the rest of the miners died off, due various causes. Finally, with food spoiled and water run dry, Kieran received revelation. Able to create water on a whim and purify spoiled food, the last of three miners managed to dig themselves out. Kieran had no idea of how long he was imprisoned, but that was the least of his worries.

More later..

Yeah, I think that this thread has deviated sufficiently from the original post that you may want to start a new one if you're still looking. By the same token, should we start an official recruitment thread for this game?

I think interest in this thread has simmered quite a bit. I'll withdraw Kieran and he'll join another adventure instead.

Yeah, sorry, Leshok, thinking about it, I'm less interested in a horror game.

Dude, I go away for a weekend and come back and find everyone's dropped? cruddy. Well if there's still enough interest, I'd be up for playing.
