Dragon-like animal Companion (peach)

Homebrew and House Rules

Was wondering how this stands up with standard animal companions. I understand that dragons are non-animal companion material, but these are more like watered down animal like dragons in this case.

Big Cat is one of the strongest animal companions.

Big Cat:

If we compare your dragon to Big Cat, the seem fairly even except for flight. Generally speaking, players should not have access to flight until at least 5th level.

I think a small druid with a Roc companion is the fastest way to get it. Should be able to have flight at 1st level, but I could see many GMs requiring a quest to attain such a companion.

The breath weapon might be a little much...

Only problem with this is if it's even slightly draconic, it's of the "dragon" type, not "animal" and can't be an animal companion.
What you've described is at the every least a "magical beast", which also does not qualify.
But...
If your DM allows it, go for it.

Yeah, I agree that it is probably a bit too good at first level due to the breath weapon, but at a max of d8 that is probably going to drop in usefulness pretty quick. If this was to be used at low levels some sort of quest might be a good idea. I'm actually the dm, of the game, and my lv 10 dragon-themed druid is about to reincarnate his wolf companion he had since level one, and he may dismiss it depending on what it turns into. I thought I would have it turn into a dragon like companion would be nice, but I don't want to give him something overly broken or anything.

Thanks for the input guys, let me know if you or anyone else has any thoughts.

Axing the breath weapon and applying a colour / elemental damage appropriate type to its natural attack may work. (Ie. a die or two of extra electrical damage if blue themed).
