Tongues: In times of stress or unease, you speak in tongues. Pick one of the following languages: Abyssal, Aklo, Aquan, Auran, Celestial, Ignan, Infernal, or Terran. Whenever you are in combat, you can only speak and understand the selected language. This does not interfere with spellcasting, but it does apply to spells that are language dependent. You gain the selected language as a bonus language. At 5th level, pick an additional language to speak in combat and add it to your list of known languages. At 10th level, you can understand any spoken language, as if under the effects of tongues, even during combat. At 15th level, you can speak and understand any language, but your speech is still restricted during combat.
At 5th level does the language have to come from the list in the second sentence? The paragraph implies this, but it doesn't seem explicit. If so it seems like Sylvan and maybe some other languages should have been on the list too, and why is Aklo on the list?
EDIT: Sorry if this has been addressed before, but I couldn't find it when I searched.

Good question. From the 10th level ability, I can see reasons to go either way.

If you're familiar with the Biblical/Charismatic origin of the concept, the idea is that the oracle breaks into some weird other-worldly language. Aklo is one of H. P. Lovecraft's invented languages from the Cthulhu Mythos and as such a fine choice. Sylvan might work as a language of Elysium, or particular mysteries might add different languages to the list.

Thanks.

You need to pick a second from the list in the beginning.
I'm at something of a loss for a logical choice. I've already picked celestial for 1st level, and the balance seem like odd choices for an oracle of life.

Does he follow a deity?
Any of the elemental tongues, especially Aquan (which, in Golarion, also possibly suggests a connection to Pharasma) might be a reasonable second choice. If you want to add some ambiguity to the relationship, or suggest that the power of Life he follows might have other facets besides the good aspect that he comprehends, Abyssal might suggest the fecund and brutal side of unconstrained life force.

My Oracle of Battle with the Tongues curse also has Celestial as her first language, with the flair of being possessed/guided by celestial spirits of vengeance righteousness and war.
her 5th level Language will be Infernal to represent the flip side of the coin (wrath, Bloodlust,...),and because the celestial Spirits would be able to communicate with their Archnemesises.

He's fond of Erastil in addition to the 3 deities associated with the life mystery so I may ask the GM if he would allow sylvan as an option.

I'm about to hit 5th level soon, and I'm still having trouble with this.
Bitter Thorn, I am having the same debate. wish they would have included the line...from the above list...or something to that effect. Because they did not, I am tempted to say it opens it up to any language. I guess I will open this one up to my DM and group for feedback.
