Werewolf God?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Is there a deity associated with werewolves in Pathfinder? I don't remember seeing one in a read through of the Gods companion.

I got a lot of mileage out of Malar and his werewolf followers in third edition Forgotten Realms and would like to do something similar in my Darkmoon Vale campaign.

Suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Werewolves who have embraced their bestial nature sometimes worship the demon lord Jezelda, Mistress of the

Hungry Moon. Especially prevalent among the werewolves of Andoran’s Darkmoon Vale and Lozeri in northern Ustalav, Jezelda’s faithful hate non-werewolf lycanthropes in particular, and go to great lengths to hunt and slay those heretical abominations. Less-devout werewolves may venerate
other gods—Lamashtu, Rovagug, and even Urgathoa, in her aspect as goddess of gluttony.

I don't think there is much information on the demon lord Jazelda, but that's who you're looking for.

Rovagug or Lamashtu have more information in print so far.

Whichever god you use, give him or her this face.

There's a Demon Lord named Jezelda, Mistress of the Hungry Moon, Lord of the Moon and Werewolves, mentioned in the Campaign Setting (but that's pretty much all of the information there, her name and title), and with a more in-depth treatment in PF 18 (Descent into Midnight).

Highlights - CE, favored weapon (scimitar), Domains - Animal, Chaos, Evil, Trickery, Unholy Symbol - full moon rising over a desolate moor.

She appears as a dark-haired Varisian beauty, a large yellow-eyed feral wolf, or an emaciated combination of the two, and hates lycanthropes who aren't werewolves, preferring them as sacrifices from her faithful.

While she's not explicitly said to have a cult presence in these areas, both Darkmoon Vale and northern Ustalav are name-dropped as werewolf-prone areas.

Jezelda has a full-page entry in Lords of Chaos, which expands on the info Set already mentioned, adding obediences and boons for worshipers and info about her Abyssal realm.

Jezelda also has a Wiki page

Now I would have went with Lamashtu the Mother of Monsters, but In this case, now that I know about J$@elda... Well I am sure there are a few with Norgorber or Lamashtu but J~*elda wins hands down :)

Spoiler:
I wonder if some agathions (not Hera or Sharon) would show an interest in 'redeaming' werewolves and be opposed to Jezelda.

Thanks, all. I think I have Descent into Midnight but haven't read it yet. Lords of Chaos: yet one more thing to buy....

With a homebrew anti-lycanthrope faction (The Order of the Silver Arrows) adding into the already potent mix of groups in the Darkmoon Vale, Jezelda will be useful.

Have a great weekend,

Yet one more reason (as if any were needed) to get Lords of Chaos. Pardon my dumb question, but does any art of Jezzy come along with the one-page description?

Not dumb at all! There's a body shot of her on that page, and a small illustration of her rune on the inside of the front cover.

Jezelda's picture is probably the weirdest one of them all among the various demon lords we illustrated. She certainly doesn't look like a normal werewolf... she's got horns. Which is actually pretty cool, since if you see a picture of her you'll know she's not just any old boring werewolf... she's the DEMON WOLF OF THE HUNGRY MOON.

I hadn't considered it before but with that portfolio, she's managed to move "The moon is made of green cheese" from a silly children's story to the direst blasphemy.

I'm imagining a bard trying to find the werewolf worshipper of Jezelda saying "The moon is made of green cheese" until there werewolf snaps.

Blasphemy! The hungry moon was not squirted out of the udder of a cow!

That's DEMON WEREWOLF MILK there. Explains the green color.

Before I learned of Jezelda, I made up that werewolves originated from worshippers of Thron when he was tortured by Zon-Kuthon and transformed him to "The Prince That Howls".

Thank you! I so have to get this book.

Which just makes her all the greater. Heh, I just read the Silmarillion's chapters on Draugluin and Carcaroth and that just made me more eager to see the Mother of Werewolves.

BTW, will we learn her origin? Was she a powerful and savage mortal werewolf first, or was she a demon that took on werewolves as worshippers, or what?

Yeah, ticking off the angry CE monsters with pointy fangs and claws is never very wise.

Maybe Jezelda's worshippers see full moon as their goddess' open eye, gazing down proudly on the atroicities her pups commit?

"Lords of Chaos" talks a little bit about her supposed origins, but doesn't nail anything down.

Ooh, that's too good of a notion to abandon just because of Jezelda!

If there are such things as non-evil werewolves (or werewolves who consider their condition a curse / trial / test of some sort, like the shackles worn by the Prince That Howls), he might be a good patron for them.

I introduced them in my Kingmaker game, I added an encounter area called "Howling Rock", where his worshippers once communed with Thron (rules wise I used the Shifters from Eberron).

Anyway when Thron was transformed into the Prince that Howls his worshippers were driven mad with the divine backlash and so three nights a month his worshippers would turn completely into ravening monsters.

Howling Rock was used to summon back Thron's worshippers and lock them away. They reached capacity and sealed themselves within, the high priest tried to figure out a balance between the beast and the elf within. Eventually he discovered the secret, but it was already too late...

Anyway all of this is in our Kingmaker Chronicle specifically This Post..

My players are fascinated with this awakened ancient culture, and Howling Rock will likely have a recurring role in my game. All because I have a player who likes Shifters of Eberron. and I wanted to give him a chance to interact with them in Golarion.

Now I wonder if Thron had anything to do with the worgs and winter wolves. But yes, that is a great idea!
