Lily Teskertin & an All Female Party

Kingmaker

So, the predominant gender of my Kingmaker group is female. A female monk/sorcerer (half-elf), a female druid (elf), a female cleric/crusader (human), a female inquisitor (half-elf), a male monk (centaur), and a male scout (kobold).

The two male characters aren't exactly the sort of characters I see Lily making advances at and doing her best to woo, and I'm not really sure how such actions would go over with the rest of the party, as I'm reasonably sure that they're all heterosexual in their general orientation.

I'm strongly considering regendering Lily into a guy, but it feels a little more creepy when a guy does what Lily's supposed to be doing (though that might just be me...). Moreover, with the elf-heavy party, I'm not sure that asking them to go fetch an elven-made item would be the appropriate quest to ride on Lily (Lance?).

Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm thinking I'll work Lily's first appearance into a session very soon.

Why not have Lily be a... curious soul shall we say.

Oh, I've definitely already considered that. It's just that I don't anticipate any of those characters to remotely reciprocate, which just makes it overall less fun and interesting than if there could be some sort of sexual/romantic tension to develop. That's the main thing. I might still go with it, but I don't really expect it to work out as well as if there were viable male targets (though I could see some crude remarks made about the centaur, I suppose...). There used to be a male target, but he was coup de graced by a werewolf just two sessions ago... *sigh*

Make Lily a male elf, perhaps a younger son of some minor noble house. Make him really glib and confident, with an air of mystery, wealth, and high social standing. You could model him after Willoughby in Sense and Sensibility: handsome, charming, cultured, and fundamentally unscrupulous.

How much do you trust your players not to meta game? If you have one or more you completely trust. Why not talk to them about their characters sexual orientation and explain there is a reason you are asking but you don't want to spoil it. One or more of them might be game. Doesn't matter how you swing in RL. RPing is all about playing what your not.

I have seen men play straight women. or women play straight men. in both cases the player was straight. I have seen gay players play straight ones or straight players play gay ones.

I'd play Lily as written except make her bi-curious and intrigued by the centaur as well. Mostly she's a flirt, and while actual sex would be a challenge, necking and heavy petting are certainly on the menu and the centaur can at least appreciate her charms from the waist up.

Heck, she might even try the kobold for novelty's sake.

IIRC there was a loving relationship between a female human and a male centaur in the campy Hercules: The Legendary Journeys series. They even got married and had a child; a centaur colt. Not sure how that was worked biologically (ouch!) but they say love is blind so...

I'd stick to the bi-curious, or centaur-curious. Make clear it's the "romance" of adventurers that intrigues her.

I think what you also need is for one of the PCs to feel an attraction to her, or him. If (s)he's a noble or a noble elf, can he provide a political reward for undertaking his quest? Besides a high Cha, what does he/she have to offer? Play that up.

Depends what your players are comfortable with really.

Lily is definately a candidate for romance (either a fling or something more serious) if your players are happy to play a lesbian fling/relationship then sure, why not?

If on the other hand your players are not comfortable playing that relationship through then I would make Lily a man instead. Make him flirty, dashing and suave. Then once the players have completed the quest have him fall for one of the PC's (preferably one with a high charisma). You could then have fun with "Lily" making grand romantic gestures in order to win the heart of the fair lady. Hiring Bards to sing of her beauty, climbing the castle walls to serenade her or you could even have him hire a rogue to follow the party into one of the mini dungeons only to present the lady with flowers at the most inopportune moment. Have fun with it.

It all really depends on how far you want to take the Lily plotline. Personally I am going to have our Baron relentlessly pursued by a very determined Lily. Should be fun.

She could be just flirtatious and then go after a male hierling :)

What about changing Lily's race...?
I don't think a centaur (barmaid?) would be right, but how's about throwing in a female flirty Kobold?
I bet your player would never see it coming, plus it would lend credence to the 'Kobolds can be
befriended - you don't always have to slay them' theme that runs within Kingmaker & the Sootscales...

That'd be my fix - simple as simple can be. You wouldn't even have to change the name...

Why?

She's encapsulated as the "local flirt." There's no reason at all why that has to change because the party runs contrary to her preferences. She wants the statute. If anything, she turns into the girl talk ally. For instance, I don't know what you mean by "aren't exactly the sort of characters," but that implies to me the possibility that Lily takes a personal interest in the characters that's equally as intense and directed towards fleshing out the emotional side of a character or characters, just not a romantic interest. There are plenty of other characters that can be used for that instead.

If nothing else, I'd love to be in your shoes to get to play Lily as written, when the sudden realization of the particular flaw in her plan clicks into place...
