For those of you who feel like entering your submission on Dec 3rd I'd say just take the title of this post to heart.
If you look back over the years at the number of people who made dumb mistakes, didn't look over their item, and rushed to be "first" are numerous.
Something that looks perfect on the 3rd suddenly has the glaring errors that you are emailing Paizo people for a redo.
My 2 cents...
On the other hand, don't wait until the last hour, either. We've had would-be contestants miss entering because of power failures, unexpected traffic, failing hard drives, and I'm sure many other things.
Personally, I think it's good advice to have someone else proof-read it for you.
If they're not a gamer, all the better, they're more likely to catch klunky grammar, etc. They might not understand the exact rules, but they should be able to understand the words.
If only a true gamer can understand what the heck an item's all about, it might be time to re-think the item.
