Non alchemists using infusions.

Rules Questions

The faq states that

What kind of action is it for an alchemist to use an extract, mutagen, or throw a bomb?

It is a standard action to use an extract, mutagen, or throw a bomb. This action includes retrieving the necessary materials from the alchemist's supplies, in the same manner as retrieving a material component is included in the act of spellcasting.

(SKR 8/30/10)

so if an alchemist hands out infusions , its a standard action to use them, rather than a move and standard to draw and drink like a potion?

It is a Standerd action for the alchy to Make the Infusion, and a Move action to hand it to a party member. Once the party member has it its just a potion. The Party Member who has it in his hand spends a move action to drink it. If the Infusion is in a belt pouch or otherwise then it would be a move action to draw the infusion and the standerd (second move action) to drink said infusion.

So you're giving all non-Alchemists a free Accelerated Drinker trait in regards to Infused infusions?

Or did you mean to say the Party Member who has it in hand spends a standard action to drink it, just like a potion?

Which would mean the Fighter can use Accelerated Drinker on Infusions but the Alchemist can't...

It makes more sense that using an Infusion is a standard action, for everyone, otherwise the Alchemist gets shafted.

Actually, it takes a full minute to Make an Infusion.

The FAQ amended the ability to allow Alchemists to "cast" their "spells" with only a standard action, just like any other caster. Before this amendment, since extracts function like potions, at many tables, an Alchemist had to draw his extracts as a move action before drinking them.

So, the question is: Is using extracts as a standard action a property of the extract, or of the Alchemist?

Officially, there is no ruling whether the FAQ applies to Alchemists or extracts, so, as with many things, it's up to you as a DM to find a ruling that works for your group.

Shadow Lodge

This was one of the issues that was brought up during the original debate and Sean was quite on the issue. My alchemists are too greedy to take infusion to date so we haven't had to deal with it yet.

We will likely treat them like potions in the hands of non-alchemists but then we treated them like potions in the hands of alchemists and were wrong about that so YMMV.
