In preparation for my next session, I'm looking at templates to use in order to keep things fresh. One of the templates says that "if [the creature with the template]s spell resistance negates a spell, the creature gains its choice of the following [ability/stat increases]."
The cleric on the team has the Fire domain and the domain power for fire is Fire Bolt, "a scorching bolt of divine fire from your outstretched hand."
Does this Fire Bolt count as a spell in regards to spell resistance? There's nothing in the Core Rulebook that says spell resistance does or does not affect Fire Bolt. My initial inclination is to say that no, it is not a spell, but I'm not entirely sure. Thoughts?

Is the firebolt supernatural or spell like?
Supernatural Abilities (Su): Supernatural abilities are magical but not spell-like. Supernatural abilities are not subject to spell resistance and do not function in areas where magic is suppressed or negated (such as an antimagic field). A supernatural ability's effect cannot be dispelled and is not subject to counterspells. See Table: Special Ability Types for a summary of the types of special abilities.
Spell-Like Abilities (Sp): Spell-like abilities, as the name implies, are magical abilities that are very much like spells. Spell-like abilities are subject to spell resistance and dispel magic. They do not function in areas where magic is suppressed or negated (such as an antimagic field). Spell-like abilities can be dispelled and counterspelled as normal.
ha.. found it
Fire Bolt (Sp) : As a standard action, you can unleash a scorching bolt of divine fire from your outstretched hand. You can target any single foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack with this bolt of fire. If you hit the foe, the fire bolt deals 1d6 points of fire damage + 1 point for every two cleric levels you possess. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.
Since its spell like it sets off the magic resistance. Happy slaughtering.

If you were to cast it defensively, what would the spell level be?Quote:I can't find a rule for it. I would say that its a first level spell because thats the first level you can cast it at.
Quote:How about the Domain abilities you gain at level 8?Fire Domain
Granted Powers: You can call forth fire, command creatures of the inferno, and your flesh does not burn.

Fire Resistance (Ex): At 6th level, you gain resist fire 10. This resistance increases to 20 at 12th level. At 20th level, you gain immunity to fire.
Domain Spells: 1st—burning hands, 2nd—produce flame, 3rd—fireball, 4th—wall of fire, 5th—fire shield, 6th—fire seeds, 7th—elemental body IV (fire only), 8th—incendiary cloud, 9th—elemental swarm (fire spell only).
I don't see what domain ability you mean.

It's not clear. Note that in the Advanced Player's Guide the new domain abilities are supernatural abilities, presumably to avoid just those kind of questions.
If I were the GM, I'd say the equivalent spell level would be the level you received it at, divided by two and rounded up. E.g. an ability you receive at level 1 is a level 1 spell equivalent, and an ability you receive at level 8 is a level 4 equivalent.

Yeah, that's how I've been doing it, but it would be nice to have it written somewhere too!
