eidolons and eye for talent, perception

Rules Questions

Sovereign Court

2 questions:

1. Does Eye for Talent work with Eidolon? I'm assuming no since HeroLab doesn't allow it, but was wondering if there was any errata or official clarification on the feat text.

2. How does perception work since Summoners have a mental link and communication with the Eidolon. Can I use the higher skill? Do I always roll twice? Note also that the int (7) is a lot higher than any other pet.

No, an eidolon is not an animal companion, bonded mount, cohort, or familiar.

An eidolon has its own skills and makes its own skill checks.

The link allows the summoner to give the eidolon orders, not share its senses. If using the Bond Senses class ability (note that this requires a standard action and has a limited duration) I'd say that the summoner could make a Perception check for anything that the eidolon might be able to sense, given its position and sensory abilities, and the eidolon would also check.

I agree about using that ability, but that ability is so the summoner actually sees/hears/etc what the Eidolon perceives. That doesn't apply to receiving perceived information from the Eidolon using the unlimited 'Eidolon Link' ability. Effectively, the Eidolon would perceive and then report something unusual mentally to its master.

As I read it, the Eidolon is allowed to roll perception, and if the int (10) would suggest that it should communicate what it perceives to its master (such as a threat), then the summoner effectively has 2 perception rolls. If it perceived something that its int would not (such as observing the pattern that every prime numbered tile is a darker shade), then it won't use the mental link.

An official clarification would be nice.

Sure, in the same sense that the rest of the party has 3 more Perception rolls. It can report, as a free action, what it sees and thinks is important, like any other party member, except that the link doesn't require noise or line of sight.

Hmm, odd... in my book it also says Eidolon specifically on the Eye for Talent trait... but in the PRD it doesn't.. I guess it was errata'd.

Is there a way to clarify officially about the Eye of Talent? My group is debating between the RAW and RAI with Eye of Talent and the Eidolon. The text implies its for the "companion" in general but it does suspiciously leave out Eidolon.
