Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hey all,

this community is full of the best effective character builders I have ever seen.

Begging help:

I am trying to make a NPC with a near impenetrable defensive characteristics based on my part and formidable in combat but not a TPK

My party is level 4 at the moment so I was thinking level 8.

I have decided to make him a Ranger with the favored terrain Desert, at the moment they have not seen an animal companion so I am deciding whether or not to replace that ability with something more awesome.

I want him to wield two scimitars, be particularly sneaky, and right now he is totally pretending the good guy (they have no clue)

My reason to min/max this guy is a have a player that min/maxs all his characters, he has more fun that way. I enjoy the challenge and have made him meet a match more than a few occasions.

The problem is I am not good with rangers, never have been. But it is a class I have never made the BBEG. I want to.

My party is a:

Figher Archer (min/max) does 14 points per arrow on average.
Witch (spell-combo genious) thinks very outside of the box
A dwarven phalanx with a ridiculous AC
A samurai/alchemist (no not the 3.5 samurai just in name) pretty heavy damage swinger.

the archer is good with traps, the dwarven guy and witch like alchemists fire, and the samurai is a charging swinger.

So any suggestions, comments, snide remarks??

cheat.

Give him better then average stats - say 18,18,17,17,16,15. Magic mithral Breastplate armor +2 and ring of protection +2. with a potion of "shield" easy to get AC 27. and he moves at 30feet a round. Don't forget as a BBEG he has access to money and items the party shouldn't.

As far as his unseen animal companion, you could either give him an item that allows for control of a creature (desert related; giant scorpion, med sized sidewinder snake, or a camel for mounted combat), or he has buddies that work for him. That way you can stage raiding combats against the party (including the BBEG) so he can earn trust and rapport with party members.

As far as the TWF is concerned, I would get rid of it and make him an archer ranger. I say this because you want him to be stealthy, well, thats nice but unless he's coup de gracing someone but he's going to be out-matched by the two fighters that your PC's have. TWF rangers do not have the feats and damage per round that fighter's do.

I would adapt the BBEG into a more skirmishing/guerrilla type ranger. Add movement items or potions, poisoned arrows, if the BBEG has a good rapport maybe you could consider cursed items given to the party or poisoned food, leading them down a increasing trapped/dangerous route to help thin out the parties healing or cures.

I hope this helps!

Thanks very much.

yeah I decided that the scimi's werent going to fly, but I am not safe from range either due to the witch and the archer.

I took the guide and skirmisher archetypes though.

Planned on taking chameleon step. He is a desert druid so I figured I could give him some kind of magical sand armor? maybe can cast a small dust cloud sand storm thing that grants concealment. Run around, hide, stab, run, hide, stab.

Perhaps the two handed weapon fighting style? I was thinking falchion.
