Alchemists and heavy / medium armor

Rules Questions

Is there any reason why an alchemist shouldn't pick the feats to wear heavier armor and protect himself? He has no spell failure chance and unless I missed something, none of his abilities is affected by armor. So basically, an alchemist could just wear a medium or heavy armor with no other penalties than armor penalty to skills and a reduced move speed?

Correct.

Ouch. This class is even stronger than I thought. My character might scare the other PCs even more, now.

Don't worry -- familiarity breeds contempt -- as they get more use to it and start to see its limitations it won't seem as powerful.

Don't get me wrong -- it's a fine class -- but it's not breaking new ground on the power scale.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. My ability scores might just be a bit cranked up, which is probably why my character might be a tad too strong compared to the other PCs. Heck, with a mutagen I can reach a higher strenght than our barbarian.
